Have a Welsh adventure with Wales holiday rentals

Wales really does offer everything you could want from a staycation.

If you're craving the seaside, you'll love the secluded coves and sandy beaches in the coastal National Park of Pembrokeshire. Or if you're hankering for a nature-filled break, explore the rolling countryside and towering mountains in Wales' three National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. All this is before we mention the vibrant cities, quaint towns and the country's ancient castles.

From the scenic hills to the rugged coastline, our Wales holiday cottages are located in some of the most beautiful areas of the country, with stunning scenery all around.

Start browsing our thousands of hand-picked self-catering accommodations in Wales, and let's plan your Welsh adventure.

Why choose a staycation or weekend break in Wales?

With its spectacular National Parks, miles of outstanding coastline, ancient history, exciting cities, and chocolate box villages, Wales is the ideal location for a holiday you won't forget.

The Welsh landscape is the stuff of nature lover's dreams. It's rich and wild with sparkling lakes and rivers, epic mountains such as Snowdon to climb, beautiful coastal paths for rambling, and world-class beaches.

Wales is home to many mighty mountains. Snowdonia offers 823 square miles of mountains and stunning valleys to explore. You can hop aboard the Snowdon Mountain Railway to venture up the mountains and enjoy sensational views. The Brecon Beacons is another mountain range you'll want to visit, with rolling hills, dramatic peaks, and Pen Y Fan towering over everything.

Several of Wales' beaches have been named among the best in the world. There is a wild variety from pristine golden sands and crystal clear waters, rocky stretches with rock pools, surf-friendly beaches, and seaside holiday coasts - complete with rides, arcades, and lashings of fish and chips. For a taste of the tropics a little closer to home, head to Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire, for a proper seaside holiday, visit the gorgeous Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno, and take in some breathtaking views, plan a trip to the Gower Peninsula.

If you're a Harry Potter fan, make sure you add Freshwater West to your itinerary. This beach was used in the scene where the hero house elf Dobby was buried.

Wales is a dream destination for history lovers. Welsh history is vast and varied and the countryside is full of ancient relics from years gone by. You can find Iron, Bronze, and Neolithic age sites and ruins on nearly every hilltop from Cardiff to Anglesey.

Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire are packed with majestic castles and historic buildings just waiting to be discovered. Some of our favourites include Cardiff Castle, Talley Abbey in Carmarthenshire, Llanerchaeron Estate in Ceredigion, the Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber in Pembrokeshire, and Cosmeston Medieval Village.

Tenby is a charming Medieval town which still has its original 13th-century walls, a 15th-century church, a stone gatehouse, and pretty pastel cottages lining the streets. You can stroll along the promenade, relax on the dreamy beaches, and fall under the town's enchanting spell.

Wales also boasts its fair share of cosmopolitan cities. The metropolitan capital city of Cardiff is packed with designer and high-street shops, bars, nightclubs, pubs, and lots of excellent restaurants. Or why not stop at the thriving cities of Bangor, Swansea, or Newport?

Whether you want a holiday surrounded by nature or an exciting city break, Wales has got you covered.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Michelle - Verified booking

We stayed here during the hottest week of the year so it was more like Tuscany than Wales!

We couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay, as with the 30 degree temperatures, it was too hot to visit many places, (especially with our elderly dog), so we mostly relaxed on the deck and enjoyed the beautiful view. The parasol was missing from the table when we arrived, but after contacting Debbie, it was quickly delivered to us by her caretaker, Jo, from which point onwards we were able to eat al fresco from breakfast to supper. It was a lovely, peaceful location, with only the sounds of the birds & the sheep softly drifting across the valley. (Except for two days when several fast jets on their way to the Mach loop went over – which was thrilling!) The cabin was very comfortable, though we did have to buy a large fan to keep us cool day & night in the exceptionally hot un-Welsh weather. Everything you need for a short stay is there so don’t let the size of the accommodation put you off. In fact, with the cabin opening out on to the large deck outside, it all felt quite spacious. Debbie told us we could use their hose to cool our dog down, and how to get down to the stream, which was literally a five minute walk up the road. This turned out to be a regular evening walk for our dog, who due to the heat, actually enjoyed paddling in the shallow water, (as usually he’s a bit of an aquaphobe). Notes for other stayers – Tesco & Asda deliver to the village, so we were well stocked up for our week in the sun without having to find a local shop. Like others, we couldn’t get a TV signal, but it wasn’t an issue for us given the weather. Also we couldn’t get a phone signal, so did feel a little cut off at first. (The lodge has great wifi, but unfortunately neither of our current phones has calling over wifi available.) However, Debbie advised us to walk up the hill a little, which did indeed solve the signal problem. And Jo said to give her landline number to anyone that might need to contact us, as she is just down in the village. Our week’s stay was heaven and I’d thoroughly recommend it, as it is an idyllic rural location and the lodge has all the home comforts you need to enjoy your time there.

The cottage was lovely. The kitchen was cozy and had all the appliances we needed alongside a table that was plenty big enough for the 2 of us but you could comfortably fit 4 there. We did not use the utility room due to a leak they informed us about before we were there (being fixed!!) but it had a washing machine ironing board and hoover, etc. The living room was spacious with two comfy couches, a coffee table that we managed to fit our (massive) board games on, and a TV with freeview. They explained everything (local area, what to do with the bins and washing, etc) in a handbook which was a nice touch. Upstairs there was a small bedroom with a single bed, we did not use this as there was only the two of us but it would be fitting for a child, probably a bit small for an adult. Was a nice bedroom though with wardrobe space. The main bedroom was very comfortable and spacious, the bed itself was a perfect size. Wardrobe space was the same as the small bedroom so possibly could have been bigger but there was also a dresser so there was enough room for all our belongings on a 5 night visit. The bathroom was massive and gorgeous- the only fault would be the baths drain was not working properly. We managed to get it to work well enough for it to not bother us too much. The heating in the property was a small issue as the old gas fire (seemed unkept so we didn’t bother after a while) was difficult to work and the central heating turns itself off after an hour and a half (manually turn it back on every time). I do understand this is for health and safety and appreciate that but it is very cold, bring blankets and hoodies. Both bedrooms had lovely views of the mountains and town. Outside was lovely- it is a shame about the weather as we would have loved to sit out there! Beautiful views and the parking is fine for 1 small/medium size car (although pebbled and a pain to parallel/reverse park into). The location is stunning and the town is nice enough, couple takeaways and pubs, tesco express and a londis. Locals seemed lovely, alongside the owners. Overall beautiful experience thank you, we would love to come back!

      Totally out of this world!

! We arrived after dark the day we were due to arrive so could not see the beauty of the view and in fact looked quite eerie as the ground fell away into pitch black darkness. After waking though the views were just out of this world, especially as the day woke up and the view evolved with the passing weather. We were all including my dog were in awe as we pulled back the curtains. This place was a total reset fo us and utter sanctuary as we stayed in the whole few days we were there apart from dog walks. Suggestions for the owners. The house sign was not legible in the dark as we drove past it several times till we found it and an outside security light that can light the way from the parking to the gated entrance as arriving in the dark and unpacking was hair raising in the dark due to the slippery stone and wooden steps. Also a handrail for the steep wooden steps as they are a bit lethal in the rain.

The cottage met and, indeed ,exceeded all our expectations. It is in an ideal location to get to the mountains and the seaside. Zip World and some lovely walks were available straight from the door. It had all the amenities we could possibly have wanted and we found it very comfortable and spacious for our needs (two of us). Even the Eryri weather was very good during our two week stay so we were very glad that we were able to enjoy the beautiful garden. We only had one day of relentless rain, and were more than happy to stay in the cottage, resting our aching legs after a particularly strenuous hike and watching TV and reading. As hikers, we particularly appreciated having the utility room with washer, dryer etc and the bathroom was fantastic with a great shower, bath and lots of space. We loved staying there and would definitely stay again.

      What a location!

Unbeatable position on hill side with far reaching everchanging views, encapturing glorious sunrise & sunset. Incredibly peaceful & serene - the perfect tonic for a normally busy lifestyle! The balcony & large area of decking was an absolute treat - all the better for enjoying the week's mostly dry & sunny weather.... The lodge is equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable holiday - enjoyed the underfloor heating in the shower room! The dining table is situated in the perfect situation for appreciating the outdoors whatever the weather. We loved the abundance of walking trails close by including the trails at Hafod, Bwlch Nant yr Arian, The Arch, and of course, Devil's Bridge, not to mention the many coastal walks & Elan valley. Thank you for a thoroughly memorable holiday!

    • How can I find a good deal on cottages in Wales?

If you're looking to get a good deal on a holiday cottage in Wales, consider booking during the off-season or shoulder season, when demand is lower and prices are typically cheaper. • What is a typical Welsh cottage?

A typical Welsh cottage is a traditional stone-built house that is usually found in rural or semi-rural areas of Wales.
