What our customers say about their holidays

    • Roisin - Verified booking

We could not fault 3 Coastguard Station at all.

It is a welcoming homely property that had every amenity required. It has been a thoughtfully restored historic building that just feels fab and truly cared for by the owners. The location of the house could not be more perfect, we loved the convenience of ditching the car and being able to walk to local restaurants and the pub is just a few doors down! We adore the beach so having it literally on your doorstep is both practically and visually amazing, great for our sea dips too! The window seat in the cottage is my favourite spot, the beach and sea view was simply stunning. We have been regular visitors to Rathmullan for 14 years and when our usual holiday home was sold last year we were so sad because we didn’t think we would find another to match it. Lucky for us we feel we hit the jackpot with 3 Coastguard Station and look forward to returning again soon. Separately, we would like to commend the property owner on being responsive to our queries before and during our stay. It took Sykes 2 days to respond to our initial query and by that time we had already arrived at the property. They then took another 2 days to fully answer by which time we had checked out of the property. We are lodging a separate complaint around Sykes customer services which should absolutely have no reflection on the property or owners. We paid a high rate for the property via Sykes and would expect they have high standards of customer service to match, sadly that was not our experience. It was our first time using Sykes and we would be reluctant to use them again in the future. It would be such a shame if Sykes shoddy customer service damaged business for the property, the owner's don’t deserve that because the property is excellent.

The property was described as 'luxury' but I'm sorry to say it isn't once you step inside.

While the house is impressive externally and internally the rooms are exceptionally spacious, the creature comforts are very much lacking. While it sleeps 10, the lounge only seats 7 (the best room in the house), and only 6 can sit around the dining table in the kitchen/diner - which is a huge room with lovely views but lacks furniture and in particular comfortable chairs to sit and relax in. The majority of the crockery had seen better days - plates and bowls faded, odds and sods, chipped; cups/mugs are plentiful but a lot of them are heavily stained. Cooking utensils as in egg flippers, wooden spoons etc had seen far better days. The kettle looked very old and tired and certainly needs replacing. No washing up bowl and the sink plug doesn't stop the water from draining away quite quickly. While there's a dish washer you still need to do some in the sink. The tumble dryer filter hadn't been cleaned for ages and was thick with fluff. The sweeping brush had had it's handle snapped in half. No basket for taking washing out to the line. A number of light bulbs had popped before we arrived. The mattresses in the bedrooms were passed their best and the duvet itself, after we stripped the bed before departing, was very old. It was hard to tell if it had been cleaned. The pillows were the same. The majority of the flooring is tiled which is sensible given the house will probably appeal to those who like the out doors but a few scatter rugs would have made it feel a bit more homely. If you're looking for budget accommodation for a large party and don't mind the negatives then you'll probably have a great time. Putting all of the above to one side, the location is superb.

3 Coastguard Station is, hands down, the nicest holiday house we’ve ever stayed in.

It’s absolutely gorgeous and somehow even better than the photos. It was spotless and toasty warm when we arrived on a cold February day. There is so much space and light. The beds are fabulously comfortable with super soft linen. You cannot beat the location and we loved watching the activities on the beach every morning - horse riding and wild swimmers. There is a sauna and playground right outside and you can walk to everything in town. The kitchen is better appointed than ours at home and we have serious bathroom fittings envy. Thank you to Jenni and Stefan for the most special holiday. We can’t wait to come back. Jump on this house if it’s ever available. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Our family enjoyed a lovely holiday in West Cork recently.

This beautiful house is in a great location, is so spacious, is furnished to a very high standard and is so well equipped with everything one needs to enjoy self catering. 10/10 ⭐️ With large bedrooms & great en-suite bathrooms it is perfectly suited for a large family/group and we would highly recommend this 5 star property. There is also a fabulous balcony to relax on, dine outdoors & enjoy the stunning views. Truly an amazing property, that will make your stay so enjoyable and we will definitely be rebooking in future. Thank you to the lovely owners, it is hard to find words to adequately describe this fabulous property.

I hope to be back soon!

Thank you so much for a wonderful week at Gothic Castle Estate. Everything was perfect from the service to the spectacular rooms and estate grounds. The various activities you arranged on our behalf were well organized and enjoyed by all, especially the clay pigeon shooting and fishing. I think however, what made our visit truly special was the warmth with which we were welcomed and the around the clock attention provided by Barry and Gordon. They were absolutely fantastic. Please extend my sincere thanks to them. I hope I will get the opportunity to visit again soon.

    Frequent questions

    • What is the best month to visit Ireland?

The best month to visit Ireland depends on personal preferences and interests. The summer months of June, July, and August generally offer pleasant weather, longer daylight hours, and a vibrant atmosphere. However, spring (April and May) and autumn (September and October) can also be excellent times to visit, with fewer crowds, beautiful landscapes, and opportunities to experience local festivals and cultural events.

    • How many days in Ireland is enough?

The number of days needed to explore Ireland depends on the depth of experience desired. A minimum of 5-7 days is often recommended to cover the highlights of popular destinations like Dublin, the Ring of Kerry, the Cliffs of Moher, and Galway. However, to fully immerse in Ireland's diverse landscapes, historic sites, and vibrant culture, extending the trip to 10-14 days or more allows for a more comprehensive exploration of the country.

    • Where should I go in Ireland for the first time?

For a first-time visit to Ireland, starting in Dublin, the vibrant capital city, is a great choice. Explore its historic sites, such as Trinity College and Dublin Castle, and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere. From there, consider visiting popular destinations like the scenic Ring of Kerry, the majestic Cliffs of Moher, and the charming city of Galway, which showcase Ireland's stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

    • What is the most walkable town in Ireland?

Galway is often regarded as one of the most walkable towns in Ireland. The compact city center allows for easy exploration on foot, with its pedestrian-friendly streets, lively atmosphere, and numerous attractions within close proximity. Strolling through the colorful streets of Galway allows visitors to discover charming shops, pubs, restaurants, and historical landmarks such as the Spanish Arch and Eyre Square.
