What our customers say about their holidays

Sykes websites states Fridge only, there is a separate free standing small Freezer with drawers.

The Owners both very efficient, friendly, and we’re on hand for any problems, we encountered no problems during our long weekend stay. The Visitors/Guest Book was full of positive feedback and thanks from world wide Guests. Suited us well, two bedrooms, one double, one single, which meant my husband’s use of his sleep apnoea machine at night was easily connected. Shower over bath, which connected to the mains water supply, adjusted by the tap connection. The water pressure brilliant and easily controlled. Ideally a walk in shower is best for people not able to climb over the Bath side. The kitchen has no windows directly to the outside, but the connecting door to the small lobby can be propped open for fresh air and daylight from the outside window and door there. The kitchen lighting is by ceiling strip lighting. Freeview Channel TV. Secure parking for one car in front of the property’s adjacent garage. Quiet area in village, within a two minute walk of the village shop and Post Office. Wifi available, easy to access. File at this property for details, eg cooker instructions, etc. Local Tourist Information available, kept in lounge dresser drawer. Greeted and shown round by the Owner on arrival. Our first visit to the Newmarket area, attending a special birthday occasion. We experienced very slow congested traffic in Newmarket on our Friday arrival. We experienced delays, informing the Owners of our delays. I had decided to re-order supplies from the Waitrose Supermarket, who informed us could not deliver to the holiday address, we then understood why! We did their “Click and Collect” system, which worked well, but the traffic hindered again. (Not enough traffic lights in Newmarket to keep the traffic flowing, I think) There is also a Tesco. Newmarket is world renowned for Horse Racing and Studs. The Owners told us the Newmarket Season came to and end the weekend before, telling us 20,000 influx of visitors. We passed many beautiful properties. Newmarket is also easily accessible by train. There are many locations for visits nearby, eg English Heritage, National Trust. If attended any Horse events, Cheveley village is also ideal, as well as Newmarket itself.

The cottage was freezing when we arrived so we spent the first night in coats.

The welcome pack was nice and included ground coffee but no cafetiere or anything to make it with. I rang the number but they were no help. I did find a cocktail shaker with a dead fly in it though. The TV batteries were dead and no spares in the man drawer. There are CDs but no CD player, videos but no video player. There are candles dotted around but the instruction booklet said candles weren't allowed. The kitchen could have done with scissors and tongs. The downstairs shower room never got warm enough to use. Some of the curtains could have done with being a bit shorter so they would fit behind the radiators better. The cold water feed in the upstairs bathroom was worse than the hot water feed. There was a freezer but it was in an outside shed so probably wouldn't work in cold weather. The drive is constructed such that you scrape the bottom of the car on entering. I had to park in an unlit road. To get recycling instructions you had to type in a long URL to get to the county council information. I didn't bother. The cottage itself was fabulous. Uneven floors, small doors, cosy rooms; all quaint features you'd expect from a 17th century building. It is barely overlooked. The garden is huge. It's nice to see they've not sold it off. There's a lookout table and chairs at the highest point, but you have to avoid the dog pooh on the steps.

We stayed at Twosome in Jan 2025, it was very pretty and just like the photos on the website.

The owner greeted us when we arrived and had made sure the cottage was nicely warmed for us when we arrived. He was friendly and very informative about places to go in the area. Lovely bottle of fresh apple juice and jug of milk was left out for us which we thought was a nice touch. The central heating is very good so no need for us to use the wood burner. However just a couple of things to be aware of ..as the property is dog friendly we had a very muddy dog most days after walking around the adjoining fields so by the 3rd day we had several wet muddy towels draped everywhere. We thought it might have been beneficial to replace the dishwasher what we didnt think was necessary with a washing machine. Plus a mop and bucket would have been handy to clean the floors as they are painted white.Cushions on sofa and arm chair could do with a freshen up but other than that a beautiful little country retreat.

    • Harry - Verified booking

A thoroughly enjoyable and welcoming place to stay and in a fantastic location.

The property was as described and offered many features and comforts; the little cosy lounge was exceptionally lovely to chill-out in after exploring the Suffolk countryside. The reception pack of wine and fresh bread etc was a lovely thought and most welcome. The only minor issue we had was with the ramp to the gravel driveway. As soon as the front wheels got on to the gravel, there was insufficient support and the car bottomed out scraping the ridge. Either the ramp is slightly too steep or the first foot or so of the gravel drive needs to be reinforced. However, this was easily overcome as there was sufficient room to park outside the lovely entrance gate to the property on the roadside. No doubt though, I would highly recommend this charming property to others for an ideal location to base your travels around mid & south Suffolk.
