Enjoy a break by the sea with Plymouth holiday cottages

Discover stunning sea views and cosmopolitan living when you escape to the historic city of Plymouth. The attractive port city in South Devon is jam-packed with attractions, spectacular beaches, pretty cobbled streets, and a rich maritime history.

From the outstanding beauty of Plymouth Hoe and the brilliant National Marine Aquarium to the idyllic old port and learning about the pilgrims, you'll never be short of things to do in Plymouth.

To see everything the city has to offer in comfort and style, stay in one of our beautiful Plymouth holiday cottages. Our hand-picked selection features cute cabins overlooking the water, ancient stone cottages brimming with character, and everything in between.

Whether you're looking for a cottage for a cosy weekend break, or a spacious property for a longer staycation, at Snaptrip, we'll help you find your perfect holiday pad.

Why choose a Plymouth weekend break or staycation?

Located on the south coast of Devon, Plymouth is a vibrant city with a fascinating history. Home to England's biggest naval bases and seaports, Plymouth is renowned for its role in the defeat of the Spanish Armada, its links to the Napoleonic Wars, and Darwin's sailing around the world.

Its naval base is commemorated at the Mayflower Steps, where the pilgrims are thought to have set sail across the Atlantic for the New World. While the steps no longer exist, the site where the pilgrims boarded the Mayflower is marked with both Union Jack and Stars and Stripes.

From this point, you can join the Mayflower Trail, which transports you back in time to 1620, discovering what Plymouth's Barbican area was like in the 17th century.

To discover more about Plymouth's past, head to The Box, a cultural destination spread across three buildings. You'll find a museum, art gallery, and exhibition spaces. The Museum and Art Gallery focuses on the city's relationship with the sea, historic voyages that began in Plymouth, and natural history specimens.

Plymouth Hoe, also known as the Hoe, is the centre of the city, nestled high above the harbour, this must-see park offers incredible views of the city and its surrounding areas. As you make your way around the park, you'll discover the Armada Monument and the Naval War Memorial. If you fancy cooling down, take a dip in the Tinside Lido, a beautiful Art Deco outdoor swimming pool.

The city's waterfront is spectacular. It's been given the title of Britain's Ocean City, and there are so many opportunities to get out on the water. Try your hand at sailing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, or scuba diving, or just enjoy a gentle paddle in the sparkling sea.

Plymouth is also home to the UK's largest aquarium. National Marine Aquarium boasts over 4,000 creatures, from the inhabitants of the Plymouth Sound to the tropical waters of Australia.

There are countless events and festivals held in Plymouth throughout the year, so no matter when you come, you'll always find something on. From the Ocean Festival and Pirates Weekend to Flavour Fest and the Seafood Carnival, Plymouth is a city filled with fantastic events to get stuck into.

For a great night out, head to Royal William Yard, a Grade 1 listed ex-naval victualling yard. This beautiful spot hosts a variety of popular restaurants, al-fresco dining spots, bars, pop-up shops, galleries, and excellent events.

With so much to see and do in Plymouth, you'll only wish your trip could last longer.

What our customers say about their holidays

Unfortunately we were not told about any building works near the cottage when we booked so when we arrived we were shocked to see a major build with scaffolding to the left of the house.

The garden to other side of the cottage was also being used for the builder's portaloo and portakabin which which when in use the door overlooked our garden. The workmen started at 7.30am and started the cement mixer and were constantly wheelbarrowing buiding materials pass the cottage. We did call Sykes as we wanted to leave that morning but were told if we did we would not qualify for a refund so after spending most of Monday speaking to Sykes they confirmed the owner would either reduce the weekly charge by 20% (not an option) or refund the nights we did not stay, we ageed to the latter so we could just get out of this situation. We did finally manage to get a refund for the 3 nights we did not stay (although it was due to Sykes we had to stay and pay for an extra night!) but the owner refused to consider this. In retrospect we should have asked for a full refund! The photos on the website are not a true reflection of the area at the moment so these photos and information need to be updated. If we had been told of the excessive build we would not have chosen this cottage. The cleanliness was also an issue, chip in oven, bbq dirty, t-shirt found behind microwave (?) and worse was the filthy smelly rugs in the sitting room. The back garden was also overgrown as noted in a preious review July 2021. Sykes do not check the cottages as far I understand they rely on the owner and paying guests to update them which totally unacceptable. You will most certainly be aware of the problems as noted above as it took nearly all week to speak with your company to get any conclusion when it should have been a week or relaxation.

The cottage is situated in a quiet suburb of Hooe.

On arrival it soon bacome obvious that there wasn't a wardrobe to hang our clothes nor chest of drawers. On closer inspection the cupboard featured in one of the photos has removable shelves which then allowed my partner to hang her dresses and my shirts, we lived out of our suitcases for all our other clothing. The settee is a bed-settee and not necessarily designed for comfort. The cottage is tidy with all the mod-cons as you would expect but most flat surfaces are covered in plastic flowery things, way too many when space is at a premium in a small cottage. There's a disticnct smell of damp in the confinded areas, but with DIY air vents situated around the place to help air circulation. The stairs are akin to a ladder although I managed OK (67 years old). The gardens, front and rear are fabulous and well maintained. The Royal Oak down the street is a bit of a dive, can't say anything regarding food as we left after one drink. There are much better pubs for food and drink a modest walk away. We took a ferry from Mount Batten overf to Plymouth which was great, and also discovered Mount Edgcombe on another great day out. A tad expensive when compared to similar in Port Issac but ok as a base to work from.

Lovely cottage and location however disappointing standard of facilities.

The cottage was dusty and looked like it needed a deep clean. One could not fault the availability of the lady who was our contact for the property; she was vey responsive when we reported all the issues mentioned. The dishwasher did not function properly while we were there; fault reported on a Monday after first and only use and still not resolved when we left. We had to hand wash all our dishes - not what a Mum wants on holiday..... All other electrical items we used worked although we did not use the washing machine; TV, microwave, oven, toaster and good WiFi. A coat hook fell off the bedroom wall when a single item of clothing (a fleece; not heavy) was placed on it. The coat hook had not been fixed to the wall properly; no damage done by us, it just fell off two screws used to hold it in place. No hairdryer although not mentioned in property summary; apparently this had been removed by previous occupants and no PAT tested replacement available - why not have two PAT tested appliances so that a back up is available? We paid almost £900 for the week and did not consider this was reflected in the quality of our stay.

A very tastefully decorated wee cottage with thoughtful and tasteful interior decoration.

A delightful double bed gives a feeling of sumptuous comfort and almost hugs you! Well equipped kitchen and private patio off it for the dry days. There's an unusual feature in the bathroom too! Great walks from the cottage and very close to Cawsand and Kingsand which can be reached via a number of paths and even the tarmaced Earl's drive if the other paths are muddy/wet. Its also v close to the popular Maker Canteen for breakfast or lunch. Very welcoming and approachable hosts. Little touches on arrival greet guests:- home made scones with homemade jam and luscious Cornish clotted cream, milk and a sample of home made sloe gin ( which, if you like it, is available in a bigger bottle from the hosts as a souvenir of a wonderful stay) I've been holidaying in the area ( mostly Cawsand) since 1988 and the Old Dairy is the best accommodation l've stayed in in all that time.

      Where to even start!

We’ve just had the most brilliant stay at The Old Dairy- so much so we extended our stay whilst there. The owners, Mark and Lin, are so friendly and welcoming. The property was absolutely perfect for our family of 3- two adults and a 7 year old. The Old Dairy is so comfortable and relaxing with all the facilities you could need, and it’s really clear a huge amount of effort has gone into its design. It’s perfectly located to explore the “forgotten corner” which really shouldn’t be forgotten at all- we found ourselves out and about all day every day exploring as there is just so much to do, see and eat! Highlights for us were the beaches in Cawsand and Kingsand, lunch at The Canteen and going into the NCI base at Rame Head to have a go on the biggest binoculars you’d ever see! We cannot wait to return!
