What our customers say about their holidays

    • Nathalie - Verified booking

We stayed in early August and booked rather last minute (2 weeks before), as you can imagine there was not a lot of choice left in budget.

Despite this we were very happy with our stay. The location is perfect with a beautiful view from the cottage and easy access to the main roads. Some reviewers said the property is on a main road, we stayed during peak season and it really was not that busy. It’s definitely quiet by evening and overnight, it’s not what I would call a ‘main road’. There is parking for one car at the back of the property and shared access to a laundry room (there was never anyone in there). The property itself is basic but pleasant enough. The kitchen, whilst it doesn’t have an oven, had everything we needed. The lounge has an open fire. The bedroom was nicely furnished and the bed comfy. My partner had a dip on his side in the mattress but this could probably be avoided by regular turning of the mattress (if not flipping over then just rotating sides). Despite being a light sleeper he slept well enough on it anyway. Due to the roof light you cannot block natural light in the morning, this wasn’t a big issue for us, my partner sleeps with an eye mask anyway. If this would bother you I would just bring an eye mask (two are provided). The en-suite shower room is basic but adequate. The shower is electric so there is constant hot water but the pressure is weak (to be expected with electric showers). The kitchen tap also has constant hot water. We stayed during a cool week in August so some heating was needed. We couldn’t figure out how to turn on the central heating but a portable oil heater was supplied in the bedroom and this was more than enough to heat the whole cottage quickly when we needed it. We are with the EE network and had no issue with signal. The cottage was sufficiently clean, as someone who has a weekly cleaner at home because I love a clean house, I found the cleanliness fine, yes there was a small amount of dust here and there but nothing to write home about. Clean bed linen and ample towels were provided. It was a shame we could not bring our small dog as I think this would not have been an issue for this type of property but other than that factor, we would stay here again.

Apologies for lateness in leaving this feedback - has been a busy couple of weeks since returning to the toddler.

First and foremost we wanted to thank you for our stay at The Hen House which we thoroughly enjoyed even if only for 2 nights. We were impressed by the quality of the design of The Hen House, the interior, electronics and setup with manual and the amazing wood fired hot tub! All of this added to a really enjoyable getaway which we have already recommended to others and will continue to do so. We'd very much like to book another stay at The Hen House in the near future! As the stay was pretty much all positive, there isn't that much to say around negatives or improvements but I will mention a few things for feedback: As we don't drink alcohol the gift bottle of wine was sort of wasted on us as a gift. We've stayed at similar small getaways and, on top of alcohol, a local delicacy - smoked fish, eggs or something of the sort is usually given as a welcome. This would have been a super touch! Permaculture Design could be applied to the courtyard to make it more lush and interactive and could easily house hens within the courtyard area. Organic grow spaces could be made amongst the large gravel area. Trees in courtyard need a good pruning. The Smeg coffee machine was great to use.  Bringing this into focus a bit more with extra brew making kit and organic milk would be fantastic. Mattress could be firmer to provide extra support and possibly less pillows. It's difficult to get to sleep first few nights when staying away somewhere if the mattress is too soft and sinks. Overall this is a 5 star piece of well crafted and finished accommodation. It's nicely thought out and has a really homely feel to it. Great travelling distance to Inverness and rest highlands. Highly recommend!

Cedar Cottage was an absolute delight to stay in.

We found the position of Cedar to be really good because you had the views of the mountains in the glen, but also the pond. We have never stayed in a self catering property that was this clean upon arrival. The bed was comfy and so was the sofa. We felt we had a good level of privacy too, despite being amongst seven other cottages. Noise was not an issue. In fact, the only noise you would hear would be the sound of a Curlew or an Oystercatcher her or an Owl. We saw many red squirrels. In fact, the most red squirrels we have ever seen. The enclosed paddock behind 3 of the lodges was an absolutely awesome addition when you have a dog. This allowed for our dog to play safely with other dogs, socialise with the dogs, at the same time whilst we relaxed. But you do also have your own section of garden that is fully enclosed and private. We felt the lodge was mostly well equipped in the kitchen. We would suggest adding a mixing bowl for those that want to bake. And a yorkshire pudding tray of course. They do provide lovely scottish made toiletries and upon arrival, you receive a really lovely welcome pack. The walk down to the falls is lovely. There is a lot to do locally but bear in mind, despite being on the A9 road, you are isolated to some degree. We arranged for a Tesco delivery on the following day and we stocked up on fuel. The owners are really friendly here and helpful and always available on hand. Places we would suggest visiting are Pattack Falls, Cairn Gorm, Green loch, Creag Meagaidh, Aberfeldy, Blair Atholl etc. Aviemore is very dog friendly. We would visit again for sure. And we would actually choose to stay in Cedar again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

What a fantastic cottage this is and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

It was like a wee fairytale cottage, lovely and cozy, spotlessly clean and had everything you would need for your visit. I absolutely loved the bed with the amazing wood panel on the headboard and the amazing gates/doors at the bottom. The large mirror looked beautiful too. The only one thing I did not like so much were the seats. I did not find them very comfortable. The appliances were amazing and they have thought of everything you might need. The garden was lovely with 2 beautiful pagodas. One with seats and a table and one with an amazing hot tub. It is wood fired and the first time we used it my husband tried to cook me !! Next time he got the hang of it better :-) Even the fencing around this cottage was beautiful Chinese / Japanese style. As you can guess this was right up my street and I loved every minute of being there. We had lovely walks around the estate as well so it was a very relaxing stay. Thank you xx

The cottage is generally comfortable and cosy, and in a beautiful location.

Facilities are adequate, including combi microwave/grill, hob, central heating, fan heater and electric shower. A few issues to note: There was no information whatsoever about the cottage, or any instructions about using it, we had to sus everything out ourselves. We never saw the owner, the keys were in the door when we arrived and we just had to leave them in the cottage when we left. The central heating was great, but seemed to come on and off quite randomly; there were no controls in the cottage. The cottage is next to a busy fast road, which wouldn't have been a problem but the windows didn't close properly so traffic noise was an issue. The shower, as others have commented, was very feeble and needs replacing. Overall, Osprey Cottage has the potential to be an ideal country retreat, but in our opinion is in need of a bit of money spending and some TLC to bring it up to a 5 star standard.
