Enjoy a memorable trip with our Doncaster holiday cottages

The minster town of Doncaster, named after the River Don flowing through its centre, is a city in all but status. It's the second-largest settlement in South Yorkshire (after Sheffield) and acts as a major regional hub for the area, so there's plenty to keep you and your favourite people busy.

Looking for activities in Doncaster? You'll be spoilt for choice.

The Danum Gallery is full of interesting exhibits, the new town library is brimming with fascinating reads, and the seven-screen Savoy Cinema showcases all the latest movies. There are brilliant indoor and outdoor markets full of independent vendors and plenty of sporting and cultural events throughout the year. Doncaster Racecourse is always a popular attraction alongside the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where you can see the only polar bears in the UK.

Book one of our beautiful Doncaster self-catering properties to make the most of this exciting destination. Each of our gorgeous cottages is ideal for a Doncaster weekend break. Choose from cute old cottages, sleek modern apartments, and even stylish glamping pods.

Why choose a Doncaster weekend break or staycation?

Doncaster is a major market town in South Yorkshire, and while it might get overshadowed by nearby cities such as Sheffield, it's something of a hidden gem.

Doncaster has a long and fascinating history, which is thought to start with a Roman settlement. Archaeology has shown that the city was built up during medieval times, and Conisborough Castle was constructed after the Norman Conquest. You can visit the magnificent fortress, which is now an English Heritage site. It's been standing since the 12th century and the keep is one of the area's most striking landmarks.

While you're in a historical mood, head to the beautiful Brodsworth Hall and Gardens. This open home offers the opportunity to marvel at the Victorian living standards and a host of opulent treasures and relics. Wander around the grand kitchen and scullery, and feel like you've stepped back in time. The gardens are stunning, with colourful floral displays and impressive statues. There's also a lovely tearoom to enjoy a well-earned cuppa.

For a spot of culture, make sure you visit Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery. If you want to learn more about Doncaster's past, including seeing genuine artefacts and relics from years gone by, then this is the place to be. The art gallery is lovely to stroll around and features artwork from across the centuries.

If you're travelling with the kids, there is lots to do to keep them entertained. Yorkshire Wildlife Park is set on 70 acres of land with a safari village and a wide variety of animals to meet. Get up close and personal with polar bears, leopards, meerkats, black rhinos, and lots more. For more animal fun, head to Boston Park Farm and meet the farmyard critters. You can pet and feed them, and take on the brilliant maize maze.

Doncaster is home to one of the world's oldest racing festivals, the St. Leger. The festival started in 1776 and draws in tourists from across the globe. Whether you're a horse racing fan or just fancy an epic day out, a trip to the races is a must.

If you want to escape the city for the day and immerse yourself in the spectacular countryside, Doncaster has three National Parks right on its doorstep, and the coastline, complete with beaches, coves, and seaside resorts, is just a short drive away.

Whatever floats your boat, you're sure to have a fun and exciting break in Doncaster, whatever the occasion.

What our customers say about their holidays

Very rural setting in the village of Misterton.

Plenty of scenic walks without having to take your vehicle out with you. Would be great for cyclists (we didn't take ours). The views from the lodge are amazing, hardly anything but stunning countryside. The lodge was brand new for our stay (May 2021). It has a very cosy seating area both inside and out, a very usable kitchen. We found we didn't need to pack anything out of the ordinary for our break. The hot tub is great to chill out in and rest your feet after a day of the Great British outdoors! If your thinking of going a bit further afield there is a local taxi company, be warned it's a one man operation so if your used to ordering a taxi and getting picked up in 10 minutes, you may want to pre-book some trips. Malcolm, his name is and he gave us pretty much a guided tour of the area, as he took us out to Bawtry. Would recommend this trip if you can spare a day or evening of your Holiday! There's a full size snooker table and fussball table on site and books and dvds in the lodge if you feel like relaxing on site. The owners where lovely and very helpful, all the best to Michelle and Geoff, you guys did a fantastic job for us!

Just returned from a week at the Cow Shed at Pear Tree Farm.

We had a great holiday. The cottage was extremely comfortable and spacious for two people (and our border collie). We wanted a relaxing holiday and that is exactly what we got. I had worked and played in one of the top colliery bands in this area (and the country) many years ago. I left in 1982 so the holiday was partly for sentimental reasons and to renew some acquaintances. Many of the former collieries are now country parks, which is excellent if you like us have a dog and/or just want to do a fair bit of walking (e.g. Frickley Country Park). The Trans Pennine Trail is also less than half a mile from the cottage. I had never heard of this before but there is plenty about the trail on the web. The trail mostly follows canal towpaths in this area. We also went to Sandall Beat Wood, near Doncaster Racecourse. All interesting and enjoyable. The owners were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The 'welcome pack' was also much appreciate on arrival. Their dogs were also friendly and it was good to see them most days. We have no hesitation in recommending the cow shed at pear tree farm.

The cottage was beautiful with all the amenities you could want for a week’s stay, even down to dog treats and dog towels.

The bathroom was luxurious with an amazing bath! The height of the ceilings added to the spaciousness of the living room and kitchen. When relaxing in the cottage the large tv provided brilliant viewing of the Olympics. The outside courtyard attached to the cottage was a really good size for our dogs to potter around and it was good to know they were safe and secure. The grounds of the farm gave us plenty of dog walks, one of which led us to the pretty canal where we picked blackberries to make jam. We made friends with the horses on the farm over the field fences and the farm dogs, particularly Cookie, who joined us for our daily walks. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly suggesting the best beaches to visit and helping us with parking. The Country Show in the next village was great and our dogs enjoyed taking part in the fun dog show categories. We visited York, the coast and wildlife reserves. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely rebook.

We had a lovely last minute 4 night stay at The Cow Shed.

Everything was catered for, a well equipped kitchen, beautiful bathroom with large bath and walk in shower, very comfortable bed and open plan living room with a large television, books, jigsaws and games. Sarah, the owner, is extremely friendly and helpful and had left us some scones, homemade jam, butter and milk for our arrival, much appreciated. TheWelcome folder with information about The Cow Shed, amenities, days out etc was very helpful, I did enjoy reading the history of Pear Tree Farm. We will miss the greetings from Sarah’s dogs, especially the two labs, Cookie and Bailey, so very friendly every time we arrived back at the cottage after a day out. Even though the cow shed was on a working farm, it was very peaceful and secure. It’s in a beautiful place with walks from the doorstep, I would recommend a stay at The Cow Shed, especially if you have dogs, even if you don’t, it is perfect.

We absolutely loved our stay at Birch View Lodges.

We booked our mini break for a relaxing get away from the real world for a few days and it was so worth it. The lodge itself was so clean (it was like we were the first people that had ever been in). We had a bottle of proseco in the fridge, along with milk and waters. We were also given fresh bread with jam & marmalade. We felt very spoilt straight away. The outside area with hot tub was great and you are supplied with LOTS of wood. We loved the outdoor space for a bbq and roasting marshmallows in the evening watching the stars. The hot tub was great...very peaceful and relaxing. Michelle was super friendly and helped us with any questions or queries during our stay. We enjoyed several games of snooker in the games room on a rainy day. We loved our stay so much, we have booked again for a birthday and we have family members booking for the other lodges. Would highly recommend!!!
