What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sharon - Verified booking

We had a great week’s holiday- all 8 adults and a baby.

We loved the location with fabulous views over unspoilt countryside, with lots of lovely walks straight from the door. Very peaceful. Sheep in the field beyond the garden and chickens clucking around and horses in the upper field gave lovely feel of being part of natural surroundings. Play barn, table tennis, swing, trampoline were unexpected and much appreciated . Plenty of attractive places locally to visit: Tavistock, Totnes, Exmoor, Prison museum at Princeton was really interesting, beaches only 15 miles away. The Whitchurch Inn has a great atmosphere and does excellent food just 5 minutes down the road by car. Layout of barnhouse excellent and very well equipped. The barn was very clean and the decor fresh and comfortable. It was lovely to be welcomed with a cream tea - thank you. Fresh eggs from farm delicious too. Just a couple of niggles: the downstairs bedroom was rather dark, damp and smelt musty. Despite opening the small window and putting on the portable radiator, the mustiness clung to the room. Room needs better ventilation. The upstairs bedroom with the double sofa bed felt small, very soft and uncomfortable, and the occupants could not sleep and suffered backache. They closed the sofa bed and slept on the sofa bed cushions on the floor as it was more comfortable. We suggest a king size bed or two single beds would be preferable to the sofa bed. Overall, we loved our stay and would thoroughly recommend this accommodation.

We had to access the property along a farm track.

The track was badly in need of repair with large potholes. This caused problems as we had two cars one being a jaguar that struggled along the track and they were very concerned for their exhaust and sump and feared that they may sustain damage. The holiday cottage is in a beautiful setting. The cottage is well equipped BUT the cottage is very dirty. On the listing it states that you have to vacate the property by 10.00am to enable deep cleaning. This property has not been deep cleaned. I worked in the NHS for many years and I can state that there was dirt and cobwebs in abundance and no sign at all of deep cleaning. I doubt that the carpets had been hoovered and when I accidentally dropped my keys down the back of the dressing table in the bedroom and had to retrieve them I was shocked by the dirt, dust and debris under the dressing table. This reinforced my suspicions that this cottage has not been deep cleaned, or indeed hoovered regularly. In this time of uncertainty we have to be assured that when we book a cottage that it has been completely and thoroughly deep cleaned and this was certainly not the case. I would love to use the cottage again but would not unless the owners take a long hard look at the cottage and start from the top and work down and disinfect and clean all surfaces, walls and carpets.

We've stayed in several cottages over the last few years and this is by far our favourite.

Beautiful location, I miss the views and the chickens coming to say hello every morning. The owners are lovely and were very helpful to us when our car broke down and also unpacked our cold items when our shopping arrived early. The cottage is in a lovely rural location, yet only 10 minutes away from 3 supermarkets in Tavistock. It was very well equipped and beautifully decorated, and the perfect place if you just want to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet. There are so many places to visit within an hours drive, so it's a fantastic location whether you want beaches, or countryside walks. The downs are stunning, I recommend Widecombe in the Moor, very narrow, twisty roads, but a beautiful village with a lovely cream tea at the Cafe on the Green, Dartmeet, Postbridge, Becky Falls and Lydford Gorge - walking boots and sticks advised! The pub at Lydford is lovely, but I advise booking as it's very popular, The Rock Inn at Yelverton is also lovely and only a few minutes drive down the road. Also liked The Prospect in Exeter quayside and the Glassblowing House in Plymouth Barbican. I would certainly recommend this cottage to anyone and will be back for another visit!

What can I say about this beautiful cottage that really does it justice?

We were met with a delicious clotted cream tea on the table and milk in the fridge. What a start! The cottage was impeccable, furnished to an extremely high standard, with every thing possible you would need. Bright , airy, loads of space for everything. The two fridges were invaluable, as I always bring way too much food and this was ideal for the necessary Wine and Cider bought during our stay. Absolutely everything was provided and the views from the patio were of Dartmoor, so beautiful that I really had to be persuaded to venture outside this stunning cottage and see other things! We loved the visits from the 'girls', who kept us amused every day with their insistent clucking for tidbits - and having the sheep with their babes in the nearby field was another bonus. Being avid birdwatchers the owls, Little and Tawny, were very special sounds, while watching Buzzards and Ravens wheeling in the sky was mesmerizing. Just so grateful to Helen, Jacqui and Cass for their help at every turn and letting us stay in their luxurious cottage. Nick and I will definitely return to Woodstone Cottage.

      What a gem!

This is by far one of the nicest places we've stayed at in Devon, and we've been coming for many years now. Beautiful views in a peaceful setting but not too far from the main road, restaurants, pubs, Tavistock and the magnificent Dartmoor National Park. Large supermarkets very close by. Wonderful walks, especially along the nearby Walkham River. Sheep and horses as neighbours at the garden fence and plenty of visiting birds. The barn conversion is tastefully decorated, spacious, spotlessly clean, modern yet homely, very well-equipped and the beds very comfy. It's a great place all round but especially if you have someone who can't manage stairs as the whole ground floor is accessible and has a large bedroom and wet room on that level. Our old Mum loved it. Thank you so much Helen and Jacqui for being such super hosts. We highly recommend Woodstone Barn and would definitely stay there again.
