What our customers say about their holidays

This was our first proper winter and Christmas Break away from Kent.

And I am delighted to report that our stay at NI Cottage was wonderful. And we would stay again. For our needs it was perfect. Despite howling winds and snow dusting the surrounding countryside. We stayed effortlessly warm and snug in the cosy enclave of this cottage. The walls being constructed of stone and 2 feet thick and double glazing all around. You could not hear the howling wind. All facilities for a home from home experience were in place, cosy and characterful in this listed property. The location is perfectly placed in the hills outside of the picturesque villages of Haworth (15 min walk) and Oxenhope. With excellent choices of watering holes and restaurants. And within earshot and view of the local Heritage Steam Railway. Which was very busy with Elf and Santa Express excursions. To hear the iconic sounds and sights of a Steam Train chugging and puffing it's way through the valley was a delightful backdrop to the peace and quiet of this location during our stay! We cannot recommend this location enough. It suited us as we like to explore and walk, and partake of the local offerings of real ale and good local food. We cannot recommend the Steam Packet Brewery in Haworth enough. To be able to then retreat to the peace and quiet of the cottage was great. The owners lived on site, next door in an enviable traditional stone historic farmhouse and were on hand to check in with us to see if everything was OK. If you are the type of people who are looking for a quiet cosy retreat. Are happy keeping your own company and don't need all the bells and whistles of a busy resort location on your doorstep. Then this is the place for you.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Ryecroft Barn.

We made good use of the Conservatory which was bathed in light and although the American style fridge freezer was not working, the replacement fridge freezer in the utility room was adequate for our use. All the bedrooms were clean and comfortable, and the 2 family rooms were very spacious. The airing cupboard was an added bonus for drying towels. There were some areas which I feel could be improved. There are 3 steep steps outside leading to the main door, and 2 steps to the conservatory door. I feel a handrail would be useful for less able guests. My arthritic father really struggled with these and felt that a handrail would have helped him immensely. In the kitchen the only kitchen knives provided were the size of pen knives. Very small, perhaps camping knives? Almost impossible to cut bread with. A decent set of knives would have been appreciated. The shower door in the main bathroom opens inwards which makes it awkward to get in and out. Only by pressing yourself up against the back wall can you edge yourself in. Perhaps the door could be rehung so it opens outwards? And finally the sofa in the conservatory, whilst comfortable, is flaking quite badly. I noticed brown specks around the base and when I lifted the throw I saw that the seat area was flaking badly. I feel that this is a lovely property but with a few adjustments it could be so much more.

A very comfortable cottage in convenient location.

Everything was spotlessly clean. Nice furnishings and decor we found the bed extremely comfortable the bedrooms could do with more hanging space or drawers this wasn't a problem for us as we used the small box room with the cot as a dressing room but if the cottage was at capacity clothes storage might be a challenge. It has two reasonable size bedrooms and the little box room proved very useful to keep everything tidy. Very good effecient shower and nice spacious bathroom. You have access to a large locking shed which would be ideal for a couple of bikes should you need it. The cottage is close to a good butchers shop which also sells fruit and veg and an excellent fish and chip shop which I highly recommend. A short level walk to the bottom of the main street in Haworth it's uphill from there on which might be something to consider for some people. We absolutely fell head over heels in love with Haworth and the moors are breathtaking. A couple of little things to mention to owners I would have liked to have more ovenware trays etc, a colander would be useful, also an outside washing line as there is a washer but no means to dry it and you don't want people putting washing on radiators. You have a great cottage with good outside space and the sign said "Mek thi' sen at 'ome we certainly did and thank you, we would highly recommend this holiday cottage.

The cottage in general was quite good.

The bedrooms were clean and comfortable, the beds very comfortable. However, downstairs was less than expected. The kitchen although quite large, with dishwasher, and plenty of cupboard space, the Fridge/freezer had a fault which should have been put right before we arrived at the property. Although there was a smaller fridge/freezer in the utility room. The cooker was less than adequate for a family of eight, with just two induction hobs, and a grill plate. There was a gas hob as well, but this was not working. The conservatory was very hot, although there was air conditioning, this also did not work. The furniture looked like it had been bought in a second hand furniture shop, or charity shop. the carpets in the conservatory were curled up at the edges, and some if not all of us often tripped over these. The windows in the conservatory had not been cleaned in a long while with moss growing on the roof windows. Cobwebs covered most of the outside of the conservatory, I understand being in the country this could be a problem, but they hadn't been cleaned for a while. The lounge/ TV room was quite comfortable although it had a dank damp smell. Sweets broken biscuits and other unknown objects were found down the sides and underneath the cushions. On the whole it is a lovely cottage, and very well situated. With a little TLC it could be so much better.

We've visited Howarth on many occasions.

This is one of the nicer cottages we have stayed in. Diane the owner was very friendly. On arrival the cottage was spotless. The living room had comfortable seating. There was plenty of room with a good television. The kitchen was stunning overlooking a lovely lawn. Just a few little things missing in the kitchen, a dish drainer on sink, oven gloves, colander, a washing line in the garden for people who stay for longer or travelling on and some pegs. The lovely neighbour next door loaned us a washing line. These are not a complaints just a few minor observations. There was a welcome pack of coffee, tea and biscuits. Washing up liquid provided too. The beds were very comfortable with fresh bedding. There was a small room in the front which was good to hang up clothes and keep cases in there. Generally keeping the other bedrooms uncluttered. Great bathroom with good shower. Towels and toilet rolls. There was shower gel and shampoo provided in a little pack. This is handy for people who might forget theirs. Last but not least the parking was a bonus. This cottage is a few minutes walk from the Main Street of Howarth the bus stops, and the lovely park. We would certainly recommend this property.
