What our customers say about their holidays

    • Caroline - Verified booking

We had a lovely stay at hunters lodge Belper, great facilities, nice kitchen for socialising, lots of plates cutlery glasses and cookware.

Plenty of room and storage in bedrooms, and lovely decor throughout. Hot tub was lovely but clearly hadn't been drained, cleaned and refilled as stated, as there was sand in the bottom of the tub, and grime around the rim after first and only use! Owner did offer to drain and refill for us, but would have been out of action for 24 hours if they did this, and as we were only there for 1 more night, so didn't seem worth it for us! Only things we would recommend to change is the beds, only being doubles they were quite small! And the heating came on and off, which seemed to be via a timer, and there weren't any instructions specifically to control this, so heating instructions would be useful. Also the parking wasn't great, allocated spaces would be good, as the houses are right next to each other and guests turning up at different times were just leaving cars all over the gravel drive blocking others in! We forgot to mention this during our weekend! Owner was helpful and responded to any queries quickly, just a shame we were only there for a few days otherwise we could have had issues fixed. We would highly recommend the Devonshire pub in Belper, food was amazingly delicious, with a wide variety to suit all preferences. Local walk routes right on the farm as well which was handy for some fresh air. Garden/courtyard was lovely so we could enjoy the nice weather we did have! Overall we had a lovely time at Hunters Lodge to celebrate by 50th with friends.

Lovely modern property super clean and set in a fantastic location if you want to just switch off from the world which we did.

The property had everything we needed, was huge! It had a well appointed kitchen, hidden utility room was a great find and so well done! Huge bonus was a fantastic Nespresso machine with pods included! Super comfortable beds and linen, loved that each room had its own en-suite so if you came with family no waiting for the bathroom! The log fire was so cosy and warm, we only used it once and the same with the hot tub, but that was mainly due to the poor weather and rain. TV was huge and we were able to log into our Netflix which was nice. The owner called us on the day after check in to make sure we were ok which was a lovely personal touch and really appreciated. We did struggle to get through the electric gates the night we arrived - I’m not sure how we got in but pressed a load of buttons and they opened! Perhaps these instructions in the Sykes App with the lock box code would be good. The only things that would be helpful would be perhaps a 1 page guide with this information, the fact there was a remote gate fob and also the WiFi password as I had to go hunting in the cupboard for it but did find it eventually. Perhaps a list of local supermarkets, shops etc is useful but honestly these are just thoughts we had and didn’t deter from our stay! 100% we will be back again very soon as loved it and will bring the parents for a long weekend too!

This cottage certainly has the wow factor - beautifully presented and no expense spared on decor and furnishings.

White towels for inside the cottage, dark blue after using the hot tub - the place was immaculate. The hot tub was amazing, perfect after a day out and about. Off-road parking right outside the front gate was a bonus. The cottage is an ideal base for touring the lovely countryside. The whole area seems to be very dog friendly - we ate out each day, mostly evening meals, and were able to take our dog with us. The millwind is a 5 minute walk up the hill and has a lovely little cafe. The potting shed on the way to Oakham was our star find - super friendly and the food was amazing. We visited several pubs for food; the Berkley (next door but one - handy after a few shandies!) and the Admiral Hornblower to name but a few. Melton Mowbray and Oakham have plenty of supermakets and takeaways only a short drive away. We found a dog friendly wood in Loughborough and spent a day at Rutland Water Reservoir - head to Sykes car park for the off lead dog area. Gates garden centre near Oakham is very good but doesn't allow dogs. Oakham itself is worth a visit - quaint shops, a small museum to look around and an enclosed grass area to exercise the dog. All in all, a lovely break away which we'll definately repeat.

Absolutely beautiful cottage in a lovely location.

The private road that leads to the cottage needs some serious maintenance, though other reviews had mentioned not to attempt in low cars, we struggled in our two estates due to the size and amount of potholes. Tesco delivery van fortunately did make it down! However, once you make it down it is really worth it. The cottage is beautifully decorated and has everything you need. It was plenty big enough for us 5 adults, though could maybe benefit from an extra chair or two in the living room. The hot tub was really nice and maintained on a daily basis. Lots of attention to detail in the whole cottage plus some lovely extras like welcome pack, robes and extra towels for the hot tub were really appreciated. Surrounded by many footpaths, we were able to go on lots of walks straight from the door. Garden was well enclosed and safe for our dog, but please note it is all flagged and stones (if you have a precious dog like ours who needs grass to toilet you will have to take them off the property). We all had a lovely stay in this stunning property and are sure to book again.

The attention to detail of this cottage is amazing and all furnished to a high standard and very tasteful.

They've thought of everything! Not only all the essentials but many added extras... wine cooler, blankets to keep cosy on cooler evenings, separate towels for the hot tub, outside clock, dog welcome basket of bowl, blanket and even a lead if you've forgotten one. Four of us had a brilliant stay over New Year. It was decorated with outdoor Christmas lights and a little Christmas tree inside too. Lovely welcome pack of bubbles, biscuits, ginger ale, milk, dog treats. Was in touch with Louise the owner during our stay and she was most helpful. The Berkeley Arms is just next door, friendly welcome and also dog friendly, great food. Windmill including gift shop and cafè is about 10 mins walk too and well worth a visit. Lovely walks around the village and Melton Mowbray is a nice town to visit too. We didn't get to explore elsewhere due to limited stay. Definitely plan to stay again and some friends are already looking into staying there themselves. Thanks to Louise and Dean.
