What our customers say about their holidays

    • Matthew - Verified booking

Cottage was very nice and clean.

The only reason we booked though was for the hot tub, which was massively disappointing. Was told it was checked and maintained daily on arrival but on the second day in it there was a lot of brown scum and black hairs floating to the top when the bubbles were turned on, nobody in our family has black hair and we certainly aren't unclean and had showered beforehand. On the 3rd day my wife had planned her day around relaxing in the hot tub but when she went to use it and opened the lid it hadn't been cleaned, the water was green and it smelt terribly (like cabbage) and so was totally unusable. She knocked on the door of the owners but there was nobody in so she called the mobile number supplied to us and there was no answer, so she left a voicemail message. The call wasn't returned so she sent a text to the same number letting them know of the issue but there was no reply at all from the owners so she went out for the day instead. The next morning was check-out. I had a look at the hot tub and it was still in the same condition as the previous day. When handing the key over to the owner, she said that her husband had replied to the text saying that we could use their own hot tub. Neither my wife or I received this text message nor a phone call back regarding this. It wouldn't have been an option anyway due to the lack of privacy. She said that the hot tub should be self cleaning and asked if we had showered before using it or had creams on us that could have caused the issue. It was October so we definitely haven't used any sun creams, plus we have used hot tubs many times and have never experienced this issue before so it was definitely not down to us. Unfortunately, this issue ruined the stay so we wouldn't return. Regards Matthew Mitchell

Our holiday cottage was beautiful and we very much appreciated the fact we were able to have a break due to the difficulties the last year or so has presented for everyone!

We have been going away as a group of ladies every year over 28 years now staying in cottages across England. We’ve used Sykes for several occasions too for this. Every year it becomes easier to book, keep track and appreciate the reminders. I still like the personal touch of speaking to someone to book the cottages when possible and this was possible this time round too. The cottage was lovely and clean. The layout was perfect especially as I’d had a hip replacement (very short notice and really didn’t want to miss out on going away) and was able to have downstairs bedroom and bathroom facilities which were a god send! One lovely bonus moment was watching the cows and young calves bouncing about in the field right by the cottage!! There’s always a compromise with most cottages we stay in and on this occasion it was the busy road alongside. But we knew to expect this as we always check the map before booking. To be honest it wasn’t an issue once inside and definitely not noticed with the bubbles of the hot tub noise! We all left wishing we owned the cottage and had the lovely decorative taste of the the owners! We were tempted to book their other cottage for another occasion knowing their standard of provision but sadly it was not big enough for us all. We love our opportunity to go way together with our friends and it’s cottages like this that make it possible to keep everyone happy so thank you!! Kindest regards Clare and friends !

Lovely cottage and will get the 2 complaints out the way first.

.. it was booked for a birthday celebration and chosen due to it having a hot tub. My daughters were very excited! Unfortunately the hot tub wasn’t available on the first night as they had changed the water from the last visitors and said it would still be cold. I understand that during COVID-19 extra precautions are needed but perhaps they should leave a day between each booking so the hot tub is available? They did kindly offer to let us use their hot tub which is located outside their house but it didn’t feel private and we felt awkward about using it. The second issue was the duvets on the beds. They are made of plastic and presumably there Incase visitors wet the bed. They are incredibly hot and slide down to the end of the covers in a big lump! We all slept badly on night 1 and in the morning I removed them from the covers and we slept just with sheets over us on night 2. Had I known, I would’ve brought our own duvets and would do so if we returned. Other than that we had an enjoyable stay. It has a lovely courtyard style garden which makes for a very relaxing area on a nice weather day. The little summer house is also cute and a nice addition. We ate our evening meal here. The cottage is well equipped and cosy. The host is lovely and very welcoming x

We stayed at this lovely cottage for one week, once we looked at why it was originally built it made more sence.

Only small issues could be fixed, updated. I would have got rid of mismatching cutlery, add an extra dinner sets. Small details in the grand scheme of things. The good things are everything else, space inside and out. location, hosts helped out when needed and full of knowledge, Nikkie couldn't do enough and filled o Internet gap while they were changing suppliers. The surroundings amazing, out in the countryside, Less than an hour from larger towns, even closer to local shops. I would without a doubt return to Bramble cottage, it's far enough away for peice and quiet, (apart from road noise when outside). The hot tub is big enough for 4, lovely quiet summer house, comfortable seatng inside, bed rooms not to big, but big enough for purpose, which is for 4 people. So, here is where I can say a big thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful cottage, good luck for the future and hopefully, fingers crossed we would love to return.

My 7 friends and I stayed here over the weekend to celebrate some of our upcoming 30th birthdays and we had a fabulous time.

The cottage had plenty of room for us all and we made use of the facilities. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The White Cottage and thought the welcome gifts were a lovely touch. The hot tub and outside area are brilliant (even if the weather wasn’t) and the cottage overall is perfect for a group getaway. There’s a Table Table within walking distance and plenty of other eating and drinking establishments nearby. A small bit of feedback would be that the seal around the downstairs shower seems to have failed because the floor was well saturated after using it. I forgot to mention to Andy when he came round on checkout day but it could do with looking at. On that subject, Andy was really helpful on check-in day by coming round to show us the facilities and we appreciated that extra touch. Overall we all really enjoyed our stay at the white cottage and would highly recommend it.
