What our customers say about their holidays

    • Melody-joy - Verified booking

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bilsham Meadows.

We immediately could tell that there was a lot of thought and detail that went into building this lovely farmhouse/cottage. The kitchen/living area is so spacious. It allowed everyone to interact with each other in an open air space. Not to mention the patio, garden area and hot tub - a phenomenal addition to the cottage and one of the highlights. All the rooms were of a good size and the bathrooms were stunning! It would have been nice to have a little more storage space for clothing especially in the master bedroom upstairs. The cottage is definitely well insulated and warm and would be extremely ideal during the winter. Within our party of 10, there were some who loved the warmth and others who did feel a little warm and regularly went outside for fresh air. We noticed that in each space there were heating controls but we were unsure if these were fixed or could be adjusted. If they were adjustable then we didn’t know how to regulate it and would have been nice to adjust the heating to a middle ground to suit everyone’s comfortability. In regards to the wifi, it wasn’t too strong which caused some difficulties when trying to watch the TV as at several points the TV would buffer or would ask us to check the wifi connection. We appreciate this might have been down to a lot of people trying to connect at once. The owners were lovely and friendly. We liked how they gave us our privacy and checked in with us at the end to ensure everything is OK. There are a lot of information/help guides within the property so an answer usually would be found in these guides. Overall, Bilsham Meadows provided us with an amazing opportunity to unwind and reset from our busy lives. There is a sense of peace and tranquility about this cottage that has to be celebrated and appreciated and we would most definitely recommend to others.

      Beautiful property, lovely and warm.

Bedding quality excellent , and also the towels that were sumptuous. Easy to find and gain access. Gardens planted and looking lovely already. Bed configuration instructions were followed up and perfect thank you . Hot tub was lovely for those who used it and plenty of blanket and outdoor towels. However , it was disappointing that there were obviously insufficient hand towels for the party which I did report the day we arrived but no more were forthcoming. Some of the kitchen equipment was not cleaned properly (lips marks on glasses, custard on jugs, mugs discolored.) This could be because of the frugal supply of dishwasher tablets provided, a couple more would have been appreciated. I cannot understand why cake forks are provided but no tea towels ?? Essential if you cannot always use the dishwasher. From a health and safety aspect , no oven gloves is an oversight and accident waiting to happen with no tea towels either to substitute. Another suggestion, with two people occupying the rooms, there really is not sufficient hanging space and most rooms could easily accommodate a decent wardrobe. There was also lots of detritus under the settees and under some of the beds. The Ironing board was broken ( with a note left on it from previous occupants) when we arrived and not sure why that had been left ? Overall ,we would have no hesitation to book again as hopefully, these are only teething problems in a new property and maybe a little tightening up on the cleaning service

We originally made this booking for the summer, but due to my partner being diagnosed with cancer and another member of the partner donating her kidney to husband we wanted to cancel.

The owner completely refused to give us a refund. This forced us to not only rearrange but also pay extra for the new date. There was absolutely no basic humanity or compassion for our situation, I even offered to provide evidence. Once we arrived at the cottage it was freezing. The owners were unreachable that evening, so it was not a great first night and we barely slept. The owners did arrive the next day, but all they offered were blow heaters which made minimal difference. The owners also mentioned a sensor was gone and someone was coming to fix it, this clearly indicated they were aware of the issue. Despite this gave no prior warning or provide the heaters in the first place. The cottage itself is beautiful and was very clean. I feel this cottage is completely let down by its owners, we were forced to rebook and then our already tainted stay was further ruined by the cold. For the cost to stay here, and the refusal to allow a refund we expected a lot better.

      Where do i start.

??? The whole cottage is is in need of some tender care and a DEEP DEEP clean. The chairs are uncomfortable stained cushions and mats stained. and in need of a good clean. Who leaves a green scouring sponge and dirty dishcloth for the next guests to use. The frying pan more bent and stained than you can imagine. The oven glove left was disgusting and just fit for the bin. Every door the runners on the back thick of dust. And the big beams in main bedroom are covered in 1 inch of cacked dust the only thing missing was the birds nest. The patio could be lovely if powered washed and moss removed. Would have been nice to be able to make a drink on arrival but the only thing in cupboards was packets of food clearly left from previous guests , a few tea bags and milk would have been nice. Have in stayed at a few holiday cottages can only say (as our first Sykes )if this is there standard will be the last.

Really beautiful accommodation - perfect for our getaway.

It was well facilitated with everything you could possibly need for cooking for a large group. The hot tub was brilliant, the information provided was helpful and the owner was communicative up until we first arrived. We noted that a couple of the bedrooms were not cleaned thoroughly- marks on the carpet and evidence of not being hoovered properly around the bed. Otherwise it was clean. Only other issue we had was requested the beds to be split a week in advance and this was not done. We notified the owners and they assured us that the request was made. There was no spare bedding for us to separate ourselves so the two members of our group with sleep issues did struggle. Overall a very pleasant stay. We would all highly recommend. Thank you for a great weekend.
