Hillcrest is such a lovely place.

Firstly, Malcolm & Nicola are lovely hosts. Warm and friendly people who care about the people who stay at Hillcrest. The house was very comfortable. A welcome box of goodies awaits you to start you off on your stay. Hillcrest sports Super King beds in both bedrooms. Large comfortable lounge. Equipped with TV, DvD player & electric fire. Well equipped kitchen. There's everything you need to cook up any meal. A home from home. Bathroom + toilet is downstairs. Powerful shower over bath with bath/shower mixer tap. Very well heated, with central heating radiators in every room, can be set via local timer and one touch operation. Open the double patio doors from the lounge and invite in the hugh garden space with large lawn where children can play, or your pets can run about. Its bordered by a gravel driveway, leading down to double driveway gates. Space for multiple cars. Over all, Hillcrest is an outstanding place to stay. The peace and tranquility at Hillcrest wraps around you like a comfort blanket, you'll find hard to leave behind. Hillcrest is not too far from Gainsborough and Lincoln. We found the George pub at Kirton Lindsay is a good place for food. With plenty of other places around. Theres a small shop like a Spar or OneStop just a few miles away. Its good for picking up your smaller items like, milk, bread etc. We would for certain, recommend Hillcrest to others. We hope we can return soon.

      Perfect location or exploring.

The outdoor space was lovely, we had a few nice mornings and evenings with a brew and the birds. If you have limited mobility the stairs are a real challenge, with very steep uneven steps to the 1st floor, these should be mentioned in the listing we would have reconsidered booking if so. The sitting room was inconvenient with no side table for cups or glasses, we used a table from the top bedroom. The bathroom was cosmetically great, but practically not, if you are under 4ft 5 tall the sink is way too high to use effectively, the shower control panel and shower head are placed to make showering under the stream of water challenging with the water pressure low. We cut our break short, my husband has cancer and all the little quirks of the cottage made our stay less of a holiday and more of a chore, however the things that were not right for us may not be a problem for others and are challenges that the owner if contacted would have been unable to overcome, the fabric and design of the cottage are what they are. We did however have some lovely meals out and explored Southwell Minster well worth a visit, Lincoln Cathedral and Castle again, well worth a visit, and Newark itself had some lovely walks around the town and a duck race event for Easter, great fun.

We live in an 1860's cottage and so were well at home in the Old Sweet Shop.

It has been well modernised and facilites are excellent. It is in a terrace but neighbours were very quiet. Super sized bathroom and comfortable beds in roomy bedrooms. Kitchen provided every need. The house was warm as the Spring weather has hardly sprung!!! Sadly not the weather to make use of the patio.I can understand that welcome baskets could prove difficult, with gluten free demands and allergies rife, but simply two small bottles of Amstel beer did strike as rather bizarre. There may be a parking permit but street parking everywhere these days means there is a likelihood of not parking near unless in a paying car park. Luckily our son lives in Newark and he has a parking space available. We had a nice texting engagement with the owner, Julia, all about tunnels and history. She was very helpful. The cottage is beautifully located for the services and sights of Newark. There could be clearer information on bin collection day. We missed the recycle collection but took it all in a black bag and used our son's bin to be collected the next day. Disabled people may like to know that the stairs are steep. I hope this is balanced and fair. We enjoyed our stay.

Well, what a marvellous stay I had at the Oriental Brewhouse! This place is special - it’s not just a trip, it’s an experience. These types of places that have been so lovingly crafted by expert designers don’t come up very often, so it’s worth experiencing them if you can. I loved everything from the lusciously decorated inglenook fire place with its fairy lights to the exquisite Georgian sink in the bathroom. The owners are wonderful too and are very interesting people. I went for peace and quiet and found it. If you want a wonderful day out, go to J and J Alpacas in Dry Doddington. There’s a really nice cafe and meeting the alpacas and llamas was very special. I also recommend Cafe 62 - delicious food and a very friendly place. I went to the ‘chatty cafe’ on the Thursday, where the locals made me very welcome. It was a wonderful trip!

When we first stayed a few years ago we had a lovely holiday.

The last time we stayed, we felt the beds were a very hard and uncomfortable. The seating was also very uncomfortable. The neighbours have changed and are very noisy. Loud voices in the adjoining property kitchen at 7am most mornings, which meant that the kids were awoken early as the bedroom joins the kitchen. As you walk past the neighbours property, I found them quite intrusive. Given that I was on my holiday I wanted a relaxing time, not the guy constantly coming out to see what I was doing, pretending to polish his car for the millionth time that week. After long days on our bikes (it’s a very good location for Sherwood Forest pines and Sherwood Forest) the sofas were so uncomfortable to sit on. We were due to stay for a week and we left after 5 days because my back was in bits.
