Enjoy a relaxing break with Cotswolds holiday cottages

A rolling patchwork of hills, fields and forests peppered with towns and villages that seem to have appeared from some beautiful, bygone age, the Cotswolds is just waiting to be explored.

The Cotswolds is the second largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England, making it the perfect backdrop for our superb range of Cotswolds holiday cottages. If you really want to relax and take a break from the hustle and bustle of life, a holiday in the Cotswolds is the fastest way to slow down.

Spanning six counties, the Cotswolds might be famous for its quintessentially English charm, but there's plenty of shopping in the larger towns and cities. However, if you're craving peace and quiet, browse our selection of Cotswolds self-catering cottages right in the heart of the rolling countryside. With rustic thatched cottages, dramatic converted Gothic churches and elegant, spacious mansions, we have the perfect accommodation for everyone and every occasion.

Why choose a Cotswolds weekend break or staycation?

A weekend break in the Cotswolds feels like you're stepping back in time to a simpler age. Walking around sweeping hills and lush countryside while taking in spectacular views, and mooching around sweet villages is exactly what is needed to relax and recharge your batteries.

The towns and villages that make up the Cotswolds are full of charm and character. Many of them are visited from far and wide thanks to their picturesque streets, Cotswold stone houses, quirky shops, and ancient pubs.

The lovely village of Bibury is one of the most photographed villages in the country, and you'll want to capture every nook and cranny. The idyllic streets are dotted with old lodges and traditional cottages nestled snuggly on cobbled streets and green hills, with old stone bridges reaching across babbling brooks and streams.

Or why not base yourself in the pretty village of Bourton-on-the-Water? You'll fall in love with the laidback atmosphere, inns with roaring open fireplaces, picture-perfect streets and buildings, and tempting shops and tearooms.

There are so many beautiful villages to discover in the Cotswolds. Some more favourites of ours include Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden (the perfect base to visit Jeremy Clarkson's famous farm shop), and Burford.

There is more to the Cotswolds than dreamy villages and sleepy market towns. The area is renowned for its history and is packed with majestic palaces, stately homes, and castles. Blenheim Palace is always a popular attraction, thanks to its opulent beauty and impressive grounds, and Sudeley Castle, once the home of Queen Catherine Parr is definitely one to add to your to-do list.

For more history, make sure you visit the incredible Avebury Ring. Constructed during the Neolithic Period, this fantastic stone circle is thought to have originally contained 98 stones. 27 huge stones remain today in what is considered to be one of the greatest marvels of prehistoric Britain.

One of the main reasons visitors flock to the Cotswolds is due to the amazing walks in the area. The Cotswold Way follows the western edge of the Cotswold Hills and is made up of 102 miles of walking trails. The trails take you through breathtaking countryside, passing through pretty villages and historical sites.

The Cotswolds truly is the perfect destination for a holiday, whether you're travelling with friends, family, or someone special. With so much to see and do, you will never want to leave.

Picturesque Cotswolds holiday rentals waiting to welcome you

Cotswolds holiday cottages offer self-catering accommodations that are the perfect choice for families or couples who prefer to holiday on their own terms in comfort and style.

They are a great alternative to staying in a hotel as they offer more flexibility and allow you to feel right at home. Most of our Cotswolds accommodations are brimming with character and unique touches, and many are historic buildings such as converted farmhouses, spacious barns, and quaint fishermen's cottages.

If you have particular search preferences, use our filters, which make it easy to find exactly what you're looking for from our wide selection. You can select from all your favourite features, whether you need three bedrooms or twelve, somewhere easily accessible or even with a swimming pool, we've got it all.

When we arrived there was no stairgate despite the fact we requested one and received confirmation from Sykes Cottages that the owner had confirmed there would be one there.

However it was fine and our Dog didn't go upstairs. The property was really nice and excellent location. We had problems flushing the toilet as the flusher kept sticking and constantly running. I telephoned the owner who advised that he was aware of the problem and all we had to do was lift the cistern lid which eased the problem and identified the flusher was broke and had been "bodged" On our final night I was disturbed at 3 am by what sounded like water dripping on inspection this was the case and water was dripping through the light fitting in the hallway. I attempted to stop this by turning off water supply and looking for isolation valves. Eventually I telephoned the owner at around 3-30 am who advised me the problem had recently occurred and the boiler had to be turned off. There was no apology which made me feel like i was intruding at an early but I was trying to preserve his property The drip eventually stopped after I left the hot tap in the kitchen at a trickle. Next morning as there was no hot water we packed up and left to get home When I arrived home I noticed I had forgotten some items of clothing in the bedroom so I emailed the cottage but received no reply then telephoned the owner to ascertain what to do. He advised the cleaner would find it and he would be in touch. I had to ring again and he confirmed it had been found and the cleaner would post it to me if I provided an address which I did. I have rung him again asking if it had been sent and he couldn't confirm if the cleaner had. I have since texted and rung him leaving a voicemail expressing my dissatisfaction. It will be 4 weeks tomorrow ( 3rd May) since our stay and still have received my items. I feel the process is very one sided in terms of leaving credit card details etc but this is clearly unacceptable and would welcome input from the agent Sykes Cottages of how I can get my items back

Property was super and we really enjoyed our stay.

House was well located just a few minutes walk from the town centre via a nearby cut-through. Easy parking outside. Although weather was cold outside when we arrived, the house was warm inside and during our stay. Property was good throughout with decent showers and hot water always available. House was clean, kitchen well equipped (but could do with better cereal bowls and there was no salt and pepper!). Appliances all worked fine. Lounge had comfy sofas. Nice to see a few family games there too. Lounge also had a good but older style smart TV. This worked well, with Netflix and a few streaming apps. An HDMI cable was required to connect our laptop for games and other streaming services. Fortunately we had our own. Upstairs bedrooms were roomy and the beds comfy. There was a table tennis table in the garage. A bit cramped but we did manage a short game! Only a very small enclosed patio area outside. Worth noting especially if you have a dog or small children but not an issue to us as we didn’t use it. Finally, it was nice to have a welcome pack on arrival! All in all a great place to stay. Stow is a lovely town with several small shops to browse, great pubs and restaurants and lots of walking nearby even in the middle of winter!

Cottage situated in a lovely village with pub across the road with a large beer garden, lovely traditional butcher which we bought provisions.

Walking distance of National Trust Hidcote gardens, so worth having membership. The famous Pudding Club is just down the road. Cottage is in need of refurbishment the bed is tired, old fashioned bedroom, floor tiles in bathroom badly need regrouting, carpet needs to be changed and have flooring and carpet stair carpets, shower needs replacing, dishwasher well not great we were not expecting a table top one need a proper dishwasher not much room but maybe ditch the freezer as deliveries can be made from supermarkets, Washing machine good so you go home with no laundry. It could be so much better as in such a lovely Cotswold village, the garden in April was OK , but the old garden furniture not great and needs replacing. The cheap plastic air freshners are not needed and cheapen the place please get rid and too many old paperbacks make the place look like a charity shop!. The welcome pack was nice. Guest book ran out so assume owners not reading the comments. Parking is good for one car as village will be busy in summer. Would we go back yes if it was refurbished. It was reasonable priced and in second week of Easter school holidays it was ideal for us, so a bit of TLC and this would be perfect.

We stayed at Birch house for a few nights to kick start Christmas.

Having stayed in Stow before, we knew the area well and we were pleased to find that Birch House was perfectly situated for 4 adults, 1 child and a dog. There was plenty of space for us all to relax and enjoy ourselves, with just a short walk to the centre to enjoy the many shops, pubs and restaurants. The weather held up for us mostly, although it was very windy on two of the nights, and there was a repeated loud bang on the roof above our bedroom. Not sure at all what this was but thought it worth mentioning so the owner can take a look. We cooked a lovely roast dinner on the Sunday, taking advantage on the good sized kitchen and dining room table. However, we couldn't seem to find any oven gloves, which made it difficult to get things out of the oven. Apart from this, it was a very enjoyable stay and we look forward to visiting again in the future!

      What a beautiful characterful cottage.

We were really thrilled when we arrived and saw it. Perfect village, lovely friendly pub and shop. Unfortunately though, I have to agree with the recent review about the poor level of cleanliness at the cottage. Cobwebs everywhere, dusty skirtings and very dusty glass ceiling light on the landing. We did not go looking for these things but they were very obvious as was the dust on the DVD player. This cottage has had minimal dusting and hoovering between stays. Such a shame as the property is fantastic. Perhaps time for the owners to change their cleaners to avoid negativity. I would say cleanliness is paramount in people's requirements for a stay away and to enable repeat custom. Lovely welcome pack on our arrival. A lovely stay but just let down by the cleanliness.

    Frequent questions

    • Is it worth going to the Cotswolds?

Yes, visiting the Cotswolds is definitely worth it. This area of picturesque villages and rolling hills in south-central England offers a quintessentially charming English countryside experience. The Cotswolds is known for its stunning landscapes, historic architecture, cozy pubs, and delightful walking trails, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and those seeking a peaceful and idyllic getaway.

    • How many days do you need to see the Cotswolds?

The number of days needed to explore the Cotswolds depends on the depth of your exploration and the activities you wish to engage in. For a general visit, a minimum of two to three days is recommended to get a taste of the region's charm and visit a few of the picturesque villages. However, if you wish to thoroughly explore the area, enjoy longer hikes, and immerse yourself in the local culture, a week or more would allow for a more leisurely and immersive experience.

    • Do you need a car for the Cotswolds?

While having a car can provide more flexibility, convenience and save time, it is not absolutely necessary to have a car to explore the Cotswolds. The region is well-connected by public transportation, which can take you to many of the popular villages and towns. Additionally, there are guided tours and local transportation options available for visitors who prefer not to drive. However, if you wish to explore the more remote areas or have the freedom to explore at your own pace, having a car can be beneficial.

    • What is the most famous Cotswold street?

One of the most famous streets in the Cotswolds is Arlington Row in the village of Bibury. This picturesque street is a row of charming cottages dating back to the 17th century. Its unique architectural beauty, characterized by stone buildings with steeply pitched roofs, attracts visitors from around the world and it is widely recognised as one of the most iconic and photogenic streets in the Cotswolds.
