I had a one week holiday in Iola cottage in 2023.

The owners next door were friendly and helpful, answered me within minutes if I texted them. The cottage is in an excellent location next to Loch Ness and main roads, yet quiet and peaceful. However, I am very keen on cleanliness and unfortunately, I found a few not too clean cutlery and plates in the cupboard, as well as empty shower and shampoo bottles and soap boxes in the bathroom. (I use always mine ones anyway, but I thought these are not only for decoration) Also, the mattress was too soft for me, but rather in the middle, like something a bit of a worn out. These are things that can be easily improved and I'm sure, some of them was already spotted. The WIFI also wasn't too strong, but in the shade of the mountains sign is weak everywhere, and because I was away most of my days, it didn't bother me too much. In spite of all these I had a fantastic week, I could easily reach out every attraction which I wanted to see and try. Loch Ness is about a 10 minutes walk from the cottage and even to walk to the lake and back there is an amazing view from the road. The garden is perfect, the view from the balcony is fabulous, I spent some evenings on the balcony to sip a glass of wine and enjoyed the peace and harmony. All in one I can only recommend this place.

The Signal Box was a beautifully looked after, warm and welcoming home from home for our exploring of the Scottish Highlands.

Incredibly clean, well presented, quirky and equipped for everything! On arrival was a (slightly addictive...) chocolate cake, milk and everything there to get the wood burner going... and the view!!!! My god, the view.... We watched the sun creep over the mountains every day in awe of the scenery. In recommendation we tried the Glen Hotel for food which was okay, but after reading the reviews we expected better food/service and were a bit disappointed. The Braeriach Hotel on the high street on the other hand was a riot!! If you want to be welcomed into the community with open arms and enjoy great company and a few drinks whilst listening to the regulars blast out Sinatra on the karaoke (Friday night) this is the place for you! One of the best nights out for a long time ending in hugs and "come back to see us again." Truly felt welcomed and left with a warm fuzzy glow.... (could also account that to the whisky....) If you want to laugh continuously for a few hours, pay them a visit. The Scottish highlands has so much to see and do and the Signal Box is central to it all. Our first visit and I doubt it will be our last. Thank you Isla for a wonderful stay.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at this great property, our stay was fantastic!

The signal box had everything we needed, it was well stocked and so lovely a place. We were treated to a lovely homemade chocolate cake on arrival and milk in the fridge, which hubby loved as I'm vegan so he enjoyed the lot over the week we stayed! It was so peaceful a stay, there are plenty of books to read on all sorts of subjects if you get bored at all, I only managed one but fancied reading a lot more! There is a train that passes every now and then but it didn't disturb us, we just got very into watching for the different trains. Its in a great location also, close to many different walks and nearby towns and places of interest, we also really appreciated the sauna after some Munro climbing! It is also pretty close, about 10-15 minute walk away from a few shops, restaurants and pubs of which I found a few were vegan friendly luckily as I was thinking I would be cooking all own food which there definitely is the facilities to do this.We really hope to visit again in the future!

The Signal Box is in a beautiful location and is very stylish and well equipped.

The sauna is a luxurious addition and very relaxing after a long day walking across the hills. We had a lovely chocolate cake, flowers and pint of milk awaiting our arrival which was delightful. Isla, the owner, called round on Tuesday to make sure everything was OK, which was very helpful. There are two things we would like to mention: First, the mattress was very, very firm. It would appear that the mattress, being sprung, is not suitable for a slatted wooden base and should normally be on a divan base, making it more comfortable. The duvet was only just wide enough and felt meagre. A king size duvet on a double mattress is always cosier! Secondly, there was no DVD player despite it being mentioned in the details. It didn't matter that much but perhaps should be removed from the description.

      We loved the Signal Box.

It had it all from a great location looking over to the Cairngorms, next door to a little single track railway station, within a short drive or walk to numerous beauty spots and the option to take the train to Inverness,Perth, nearby Aviemore and countless other stations for hiking or just relaxing walks. The 'upside down' Signal Box enabled great views from the upstairs living room and kitchen. We did'nt have to start looking for a supermarket as soon as we arrived as Isla had all we needed, ie tea bags, coffee, sugar, cleaning materials etc. and even milk and a lovely chocolate cake. This is the first time that I have given 10 out of 10 to all questions in a review and it is well deserved.
