What our customers say about their holidays

    • Tammy - Verified booking

Dromore Cottage is spacious and airy and set in beautiful grounds in a lovely location.

Mrs Dowd was very prompt at meeting us and showing us around the property. The use of the Aga in the kitchen was to heat water for baths and washing up and we were asked not to meddle with it. The heating was insufficient, mornings were very cold as were the end part of the evening. The beds are very uncomfortable and the duvets/covers smelt musky. The cottage smells damp as soon as you open the front door, which I imagine is due to insufficient heating. Despite our best efforts we could not find the BBQ which we were looking forward to using when we had our family come and visit. We had to settle for a take away. There are two door keys on the keyring provided. One opened the front door, the other didn't seem to fit anywhere which meant we had no way of unlocking the door to the rear of the property. We didn't need to use it in the end, however, I would suggest that this is a hazard in case of a fire in the property. There were two hand towels provided for our use in the bathroom, whilst we are not 'big' people, a hand towel is never going to be adequate for drying after a shower. We located towels in the hallway cupboard and found two slightly larger ones. The two bins in the kitchen are for clean plastic/paper and the other for metal/tin. There was no bin for food scraps or general waste. The property is lacking in maintenance and comfort. The toilet doesn't flush properly and many of the windows are locked or the handles are broken. There were no batteries in the TV remote and a couple of light fittings are missing light bulbs. Dromore has the potential to be a wonderful place to stay but needs a large dose of love and attention.

This cottage was a wonderful surprise, and Bernie, the owner was very accommodating.

We had a fridge full of anything we could need on our first night/morning - an Irish breakfast, milk, wine and a fire lit! - The cottage was steeped in history and a wonderful throw back to traditional Irish living - this was a very relaxing week and we were close enough to Dungarvan to access all entertainment and fabulous restaurants we needed - it was also prefect for our dogs with its big garden which is enclosed and safe. I would highly recommend this cottage and host. If its a couple's escape you are seeking - then step back in time to Carthy's cottage and enjoy every moment it provides. We got out and about every day and discovered many coves/beaches and towns within 20 miles all worth a visit - Lismore, Stradbally, Dungarvan - the trip to Dunmore East and Passage East is beautiful - the Copper Coast drive is also a wonderful way to spend the day. A most memorable week.

We have been renting houses around the country for the last 15 years and I must say that it is by far the least equipped house we have ever stayed in.

The house was spacious and clean which was really nice, but there was absolutely no essentials. After driving over 5 hours from the south of the country, we had to pack the kids back in the car to go buy hand soap, toilet paper, washing up liquid, bin bags, paper towels and so on. it was just a bit disappointing as the house itself was lovely but that did put a negative note on arrival, and that really was the first time in 15 years that happened, unless that s the norm and we have just been lucky so far but i think in that case, people should be made aware beforehand so they can come prepared. I do think a minimum amount of essentials should be required for all summer rentals, product such as anti bacterial sprays, cloths, toilet gel, it s just not nice to go on holidays and go shopping for those, not when you just need them for a week

We arrived Friday 10th in the evening.

Mrs Dowd was available to give us the keys. Rooms were so spacious and comfortable. Only one bathroom but that was not a problem for us. Kitchen had all facilities and devices. Living room spacious with tv, DVD player, and movies. Dining room huge and sits 8 but only 6 chairs (we took 2 from the kitchen). The garden is lovely and the kids had a ball playing and exploring outside. It was cold the weekend we came up but the house had heating and we used it at night and mornings. It also heated the water for the bath and shower. Overall we had a wonderful time and enjoyed all the facilities. The property was clean and all the linen was available to us for any changes of beds or towels and table clothes. Could not find fault at all!! Thanks to Sykes Cottages in Ireland.

We stayed in Carthy's cottage with our small dog.

We were made most welcome and the cottage was lovely and traditional but with every mod con we needed. The front enclosed courtyard and big grassy enclosed garden at the back of the house was perfect and safe for our dog. The cottage itself was much roomier than we expected. The landlady was very kind and helpful and was ever only a phonecall or text away. The area was so peaceful and we were never too far away from the places and sights we choose to visit. The Comeragh Mountains and Mahon Falls are only a 20 minute drive away and Colligan Woods less than 10 minutes away. So many lovely walks and such beautiful scenery and a lovely traditional cottage to relax in, a holiday to remember!
