What our customers say about their holidays

    • Karri - Verified booking

Brilliant holiday home, ideal for multiple families and great set up for both kids and adults.

There are 10 adults and 7 children in our group and we have been holidaying together in Scotland for 5 years and this was the best house we have stayed in. John was great and very attentive if needed. The heating and water systems are great which lend to a ideal drying room for clothes. The gardens are gorgeous and the kids play area a real plus. The bedrooms mostly had ensuites which was great and those that did not had bathrooms very close. The kitchens were well kitted out with everything we needed and the dining room was lovely. The log cabin was lovely and was a great addition to the holiday. The house has a lot of history which made for some really interesting reading. The fixtures and fittings were all high quality, comfy sofas and beds and well decorated. Things for improvement were that the house was clean but could have been cleaner, it was obvious there had been dogs in the house previous to us and with a few people with allergies - that wasn't ideal. Also the feather bedding was an issue for us as again there were a few people with allergies but we understand many guests will think feather duvets are a plus point. There was dirty underwear under one of the beds in the MacGillvray room (not ours as only two 7 year old boys staying in that room) and lots of wrappers/papers behind the bed in the MacDonald room. The internet wasn't great and we often could not get connected - could use some wifi extenders or a boost to allow more people to join the network at once (we all live rurally so are used to these issues). We also felt the list of duties for tenants to do at the end of the holiday was quite extensive - the most we have been asked to do in the 5 years of renting big houses for holiday. On the whole - an amazing place to stay to explore the local area. Thanks! * Happy for the top part of the review to be published with the second part omitted as it was more to let the owners know of some improvements which could be made.

      Had a wonderful vacation.

This home is absolutely beautiful. Perfect for a large family or several families to share. The area and views from the home are just breathtaking. In the countryside yet only 15 minutes to the city of Inverness. Great base for a vacation. This home is so clean and well stocked. I believe the home is only three years old. Loved the design of the house!! Superior rental property. More than worth the price. Jane the housekeeper is so nice and went out of her way to make sure we had everything needed. Truly did not expect this caliber of a rental home. The bedrooms are set up with 3 upstairs on one side of the home, and 6 on the other. 3 upstairs, 3 downstairs. Perfect set-up if families wanted to share the house. Offered lots of privacy within a wing. Kitchen is a cooks dream. I was worried that the house would be too far out but we were only 15 minutes from the airport and the city of Inverness which was beautiful. We did a lot of day trips from the house. Biggest downside of this home is that once your there you just want to spend time at the house. We had 3 wonderful dinners at the house, 1 being an outdoor barbecue. Highly recommend this home.(ps. we were worried about midges which we were told were up in Inverness in the summer. None at the house. We sat outside till late in the evening enjoying the views. Kids loved the snooker, table tennis, games, tennis court etc. Truly a Scottish Gem.

      This place was perfect.

It was everything we needed and more! We had a family of 12, aged between 17 and 82, and it catered for everybody. The snooker table was brilliant and although the cues could do with replacing, we took our own so it didn’t affect us. Tennis, Darts and table tennis also kept us entertained too. There were facilities for a bbq, as well as easily cooking for the entire group. The laundry facilities were excellent. The views were breathtaking - being able to stand or sit out in the back and take in the views of a morning is something I am going to miss! The one improvement I would suggest is to add a TV into the main living room for those families that do like to watch TV, as currently the only TV is in the snooker room, but again it didn’t affect us too much as there were lots of other ways to remain entertained, as we took and played board games around the dining table. I would recommend this place to any large group and I won’t hesitate to book again if we were looking to visit the area again. Jane, who looks after the property, took care of everything for us on arrival and was very kind in showing the first arrivals around the property. She was always only a text away if we needed anything but left us to enjoy our holiday - she was amazing!

What a fantastic place for a holiday.

The house is amazing. It is furnished to an extremely high standard and the fact that every room has en suite facilities is a bonus. We have just visited for the second time as a group with 4 families, last time for a long weekend this time for a week and it still didn't feel long enough. The kitchen is great to cook in, it has everything you will need, 2 large fridges, cling film, tin foil, ice machine, great cooker. We like the fact that you can spread yourselves around the place either by the log fire in the sitting area, watching tv in the snooker room or reading in the conservatory. Our favourite place is the tennis court with even granny and grandpa playing! The snooker table, table tennis and darts keep the men and children happy and there are 2 bikes for the children to play on. It is a short walk into the village for morning rolls and a lovely restaurant where we walked in the dark one night for a delicious meal. The Black Isle Brewery was also just a short walk away and a must for all visitors. Jane , the housekeeper is extremely accommodating and very helpful. In short I have rented many houses but this one is the best and we are already looking at dates for returning next year Quarryfield see you soon!!

      TERRIBLE SERVICE FROM OWNERS!

!! Do not recommend booking here at all as if felt very unhygienic. The owners completely forgot we were arriving!! There were kids lounging around in the house and rushed out as they did a ‘quick clean’. It felt very dirty to stay in as the property has obviously been lived in. The kitchen was dirty, there were crumbs all over the kitchen table and coffee table in the living room. The floor was dirty and unhoovered. Worst part was that the owners first avoided us/ any complaints and then finally refused to compensate us in any way at all (after we left the property). If you have troubles with your experience/accommodation here then it is completely up to them how much they wish to compensate you. We left a day early due to the poor service and still they couldn’t compensate us in the slightest. Sykes cottages or other booking agents will not be able to help you either. Terrible experience and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
