What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ms Gatward - Verified booking

We had a super 7 night break, a really lovely homely and comfortable base to stay. Comfy bed, pillows and nice linen. An absolute bonus is a bathroom and a shower room with a great size and powerful shower. Comfy chairs to watch TV or the wood burner in winter. Home seems more spacious inside than it looks. Lovely bookshelf too with some interesting books. The cricket pitch is close by, also a food van very near. Parking is very easy and near the property. Cycles for hire also nearby. So much to do in the area, the Tarka trail is perfect we walked at least 10k everyday, also the coast path. Fremington Quay cafe is a great and welcoming place serving great food. We walked to Tapeley park well worth a visit a lovely walk along the Tarka trail. RHS Rosemoor and Dartington crystal are close by, a car drive away. There is a dele shop (Johns) in Instow with some great food and drink. Supermarkets are a few minutes drive away. Instow Arms is a lovely place to watch the sun go down. We would definitely recommend the property and the area.

For a cottage that will accommodate 4 people, there were only 2 chairs in the garden.

The garden was overgrown and had an upturned wheelbarrow as a back gate which our dog nearly lept over. There was no welcome information left for us which would have been nice. There was an innocuous looking basket on the floor in the sitting room which contained some details about the local area - we didn't notice this until the last evening of our stay. This would have been better served if it were left by the visitor book. It would have been nice to have some history of the cottage i.e. age, original use, old photos etc. This could have been made as a wall hanging or even just some laminated sheets left on the table for occupants to read. The bolt off the bottom half of the stable door was missing which meant we couldn't leave it open for ventilation as the dog would dissappear into the insecure garden. The cottage has potential but the owners need to invest more time & effort into it

Very steep stairs to first floor and steep stairs to main bedroom not mentioned in property details although uneven floors are which is good.

The property should not be described as having 2 bathrooms as there is only one bathroom and a very small en-suite shower room. Very disappointing to find that the pub mentioned in the details is closed which was very inconvenient as we’d planned to eat there and having to do food shops took time out of our holiday. Having said all that the cottage was well equipped with quality white goods and oven and the bedding was spotless. The milk and bread which was provided for our arrival was most welcome and a lovely surprise to find. We didn’t use the garden but it was exceptionally pretty and had lots of birds which was pleasing. I would like to suggest that a hairdryer would be a very useful item to offer. All in all a great little cottage in an extremely quiet area close to A303 and A30 and considering the cottage is terraced there was no noise nuisance from any of the other cottages.

So bad we moved out after two days When we arrived at 5pm , we found that heating timer had been switched off and each radiator turned down. No logs left to at least get fire going ( as is common in most other houses) The oven is really difficult to use ( and a number of pans provided don’t work on induction hobs). We worked out that it needed three hours to heat up before it could be used so plans for a meal that night were scuppered Internet was down that after 2 days of chasing marsdens we were told couldn’t be fixed for another 4 days Kitchen is deadly for anyone over 5’ 10” as two low beams right over table and by fridge - a serious accident waiting to happen Asked for more duvets that they sent a mail ( no internet!) to say they couldn’t source

The property was comfortable and in a beautiful location, easily found using satnav and the postcode provided.

The owners were welcoming and provided information about the property on arrival. I would have liked some kind of 'welcome pack' with instructions of how to leave the property on departure. I appreciated the bowl of varied drink sachets next to the kettle meaning we could have a cuppa before we unpacked. Small issues were resolved immediately. The dogs had a great stay; a fenced patio area outside with access to 2 enclosed paddocks where they could run off lead and a poo bin. They enjoyed their walk around the fishing lakes on their leads with the moors to explore around the property. Highly recommend this place for dog owners and older families/ couples.
