This place could be amazing but it's tired, dirty and in need of a lot of tlc.
The wall lights in the bedroom are wobbly. There are air fresheners everywhere - even in the wardrobe. A good clean would make it smell better! The towels were hard and rough. There's nowhere in the bathroom, neither shelves or cupboard to put toiletries. There's no window covering in the bathroom - although the blind fitments are there. The oven is a disgrace. It's dirty inside and the door doesn't fit properly. The numbers have all worn off on the knobs and the ignition doesn't work. There's a metal protector to pull out (a label tells you to) when using the grill, it's all gummed up with old food fat and dirt, almost impossible to move. The cupboards are full of stuff other people have left behind. The kitchen tap is still dripping - after reviews going back to April saying the same thing. The bowl is too big for the sink and, like the drainer on the side of the sink, is old and dirty. The inside of the kettle had to be scrubbed to get rid of the limescale before we could use it. The kitchen blind is filthy. The menus in the folder, for the pub, are way out of date and there's very little information. The steps up to the door are rotting and the outside light doesn't work. I can't comment on the pillows or duvet - we'd read previous comments and thought it best to take our own. There are cobwebs absolutely everywhere and all the doors and window frames look as though they could do with a good scrub It could be a lovely holiday lodge but it's so very uncared for - so unfair to take people's money and offer the lodge in the state it's in.

We have stayed in a few Shepherds hugs and most have been very nice, but the Shepherds retreat TOPS THE LOT!
It is a lovely place to stay and relax, so well thought out, Farmer Des came over to give us our keys and show us around and he was the loveliest man. The hut is super comfy, from the lovely. Armchairs ( seating is normally a bit of an issue in huts) to the restored bed from 1857!, everything has been thought about, great use of space,,everything you need is there. The hut has a large decking to the front, with ramp and step access, a really nice fully enclosed garden, so you don't have to worry about your dog wandering off, as well as at least 3 large fields you have access to straight from the gate by the decking. There are 2 small sheds one with kit for the chiminea and some extra chairs and loungers in and the other with hanging space for clothes, coats ,boots and bikes if you want ( there is also an ironing board and iron in there) and finally THE VIEWS !! ......did I mention the views! you can sit on the deck and look out over 4 counties, plenty of wildlife about as well. Not often I say this but 10 out of 10, a lovely place owned by lovely people, will definitely come back for another stay.

The host Tom was great and lived just next door; very welcoming and responsive throughout the stay.
It was a lovely homely cottage with an amazing view, and great location for activities around Kidderminister, especially if you are a hiker or train enthusaist. The cottage just needs a little TLC, and maybe a welcome pack to make it a little more comfy and user friendly. Whilst the kitchen had most of what we needed, a few extra bits and a larger fridge freezer would make a longer stay easier. The four of us struggled on occasion with just the one shower and some of the other facilities, so proably somthing to bear in mind if you are a bigger group. Would make sure you bring some flip flops to get to the hot tub as small stones underfoot, could do with some steping stones. Wifi and Sky worked well, hot tub was kept filled up and clean throughout our stay, could just do with back cusions to make it a little more comfortable. Top tips: remember to bring toilet roll and cleaning products! And the bellmans pub is just a short walk up the road was great for dinner!

Des and Beverley are the perfect hosts greeting you on arrival, with Des showing you around the hut before leaving you to it.
The hut is perfectly well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay in a wonderful location. Very cozy with stunning views from the door or as you have breakfast on the picnic table. Chimera is great for a warming fire as you sit out in an evening with a glass of something in the company of the stars and the tranquility. Walks from the door get you high up very quickly to take in views of 40 miles across the counties and a pub just a 45 minutes stroll down quiet lanes, or 5 mins in car. Make sure you take the time to walk to the top of nearby Clee Hill where you have 360 degree view of 7 counties, before calling at Brewe cafe, in the village, for super coffee and cakes. Des will point you in the right direction if you ask. So I will just end with a thank you to Des and Beverley for a perfect stay.

A wonderful relaxing break.
Super accommodation, especially good to have such a large main bedroom with so much more wardrobe space than you would normally get, and a useful ensuite! I would imagine the washer/dryer is a great bonus if you have bad weather or are staying for longer. After a previous review I took an extra duvet to boost the mattress as my back isn't great, and it was great. Would say the second bedroom would be snug for an adult but the overall space in the lodge is super. Finally, the enclosed balcony is fantastic especially with a doggy, and impressive to have a further table, chairs and umbrella down on the grass. The site is immaculate!! Would thoroughly recommend.
