What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Quayle - Verified booking

Most of our many holidays over more than 50 years have been in self-catering accommodation - both in the UK and abroad. I think that Cedars Lodge is probably the best equipped and most comfortable we have stayed at. Entrance is through the kitchen, which is spacious and with everything even the most demanding of cooks might need: cooker with infra red hob, dishwasher, microwave oven, stick blender etc etc. The stock of cutlery and crockery is very generous for a two-person accommodation. The end of the kitchen has an area containing a breakfast bar and the washing machine/dryer. Our two rescue dogs were very happy to be bedded down in this snug space. The kitchen has a door leading into a square area in the middle of the house, with a coat stand, cabinet and doors leading into the bedroom, bathroom and lounge. The spacious bathroom has a wet-room style shower and heated towel rail, plus the usual. The bedroom has a king-sized bed with a firm, comfortable mattress, and fitted cupboards, drawers and dressing tables. Each side of the bed has a small cabinet and bright bedside light. The lounge has a leather covered suite comprising a three seat and two seat settees, plus and armchair. The TV provides Sky, Netflix and Prime. The broadband WiFi worked well. A windowed door from the lounge leads to the dining/sun lounge area which faces South East, with views over the hillside beyond, so it gets a lot of sun in the morning and is a nice spot to have afternoon tea. There is a dining table with four chairs. The windows have blinds for use in case the sun gets too powerful. The sun lounge has a door leading onto the patio area, which has tables and chairs for al fresco dining and a fire pit style barbecue. The grassy area is a bit smaller than it might appear from the pictures of the property, but perfectly adequate for dogs to do what dogs need to do. Overall, the accommodation is to a very high standard. It is warm, comfortable, pleasing to the eye and surprisingly spacious for just two people. The friendly owners, live in the attached house and gave us a very warm welcome as well as much useful advice about the local area. There are a dozen or so beaches and country walks within half an hour's drive, great places to eat, supermarkets, pubs and tea rooms for traditional Devon cream teas with mega-scones (but don't forget: cream on first, then the jam!)

The location of this cottage was perfect for use, 20min walk into town if going via the woods footpath, close to the coastal path too. Westward Ho! Was ok as a base plenty of places to eat etc and beach was beautiful. Cottage was lovely but did have a major issues with WiFi, water pressure issues upstairs, no locks on doors for privacy upstairs, very little storage for clothing but we made this work and lack of decent sized mirrors in upstairs bedrooms. Beds were comfy - all Emma mattresses, choice of pillows firm & soft, microfibre duvets which was a massive bonus for us as hate feather ones. The garden was the main thing for us - it was our cocker spaniels dream - huge enclosed field as the garden was just fantastic. Overall we had a lovely stay, mainly aided by the fantastic weather -;had the weather been bad and we'd have been in the property more - I think we'd have really struggled. I would recommend - but would definitely mention the areas that need improvement

We stayed here over new year with our dogs and it was perfect. Beautiful location, amazing cottage, no detail overlooked. Well equipped kitchen and had everything you would find in your own kitchen at home. Perfectly secure garden for the dogs and the hot tub was an added bonus. The host were lovely and made us feel super welcome. Felt like a very private cottage. We did cook most nights but did order takeaway one night as there is a couple in the area. Close by is a town that has all you need if you run out of anything. The cottage was immaculate, bed super comfy and wifi very good. We felt perfectly safe and secure at the cottage but were far enough away from other buildings that we had privacy. Myself, partner and the girls (doggies) had an amazing time here and would love to come back in the future.

We loved Little Puffins! Full of charm and character and ideally located in Appledore, it has been sympathetically renovated and is now very comfortable and well equipped. The owners had provided all the essentials for us when we arrived so we could settle straight in. They are easily contactable if you need help with anything but we didn't apart from a question about where to put the rubbish. The cottage is not easy to find initially, as the entrance to Ibex Court from Irsha Street is very small but once found, never forgotten! We parked in the Churchfields car park on The Quay, which was £30 for a week via RingGo. There is free parking along Torridge Road as an alternative. Recommend the nearby Beaver Inn for excellent food but you need to book if you have a dog so that you can eat in the bar.

We were very sad when Saturday morning arrived and we had to leave Little Puffins! It is a beautiful little cottage, with everything you need for a perfect stay. Very clean and tastefully refurbished. With an amazing welcome pack! Appledore is a wonderful place to stay, and Little Puffins is right in the heart of the village. There are lots of places to explore, eat, drink and most importantly, people watch! There is also a really good bus service, so much so, that we parked the car on Saturday and left it there until the following Saturday. We brought our bikes with us and really enjoyed exploring the Tarka Trail. With lots of beautiful little tea rooms along the way. A return visit to Little Puffins is definitely on the cards, and if you haven’t been before, then just book it!
