What our customers say about their holidays

    • Keith - Verified booking

We were looking forward to having a break away from it all in complete privacy having seen the photographs and checking on the fencing situation as we have a dog who is over- friendly.

When we arrived Keith asked a lady by the farm type buildings and machinery where we might find Poppy. She did not engage in any welcoming conversation just told us it was the second one along. The huts are attractive but the view from the back window was awful and a tractor with some sort of scraper was going backwards and forwards scraping rainwater from the ground for quite some time. The photographs are also very misleading, we realised they must have been taken with a fish-eye lense as the hut and the garden area were very much smaller and the other huts much closer than we thought. There was a ‘Guests information’ booklet but this did not give any information about how to use the shower, the heating, the hob or the tv. A Guest book was provided for guests to write their feedback but I found it a little suspicious, considering the above that it was a loose leaf book, with only glowing reviews. Although it was thoughtful to provide a small bottle of milk and coffee, tea and sugar, it would be a good idea to provide condiments and cooking/olive oil too. We enjoyed our break due to the places we visited and the views of the hills and sheep but the experience could have been so much better with some friendliness and thoughtfulness from the hosts.

Overall had a wonderful stay- we booked 2 nights for 2 of us with a small dog.

However, we would suggest taking some insect repellent as there was a lot due to the close proximity of fields, taking a fan in warm months, fill up on petrol as you will have to drive a lot to go anywhere. And we recommend the Fish and chippy 8 mins away in llanfair (it was gorgeous and good prices) and Lake vernwy (good day out £4 all day parking). Pros: - Gorgeous view - Your own Garden space - Smart tv which has access to films - Really comfy bed - Hot tub?! (Obviously) Suggestions: - Maybe a gate at the top of stairs? - stop dogs going down steps (as when we were in the hot tub trying to relax our dog kept trying to run down them so we couldn’t sit in the hot tub for long) - Short fence/ barrier in the garden area to help prevent dogs falling down slope - Earlier Check in time or later check out time as it is quite a pricey trip and we found these check in and check out times limited us a lot - More lights outside - Maybe a suggestion in the book of where is best to get phone signal / wifi around the pod area (would come in handy for ringing takeaways) We would still recommend the stay as we still had a lovely time! :) It’s like a little home from home. Thank you! :)

The Rhiw is an unique pod, small but perfectly formed, in our opinion!

Its position is tucked away, behind & above the owners' property, but completely private despite the proximity. Completely cosy, due to central heating, very comfortable bed, & brilliant idea of separate access from hot-tub to the bathroom, keeping drips away from the living space! Chair is a bit cosy for 2, but owners are aware, have a plan in mind!! Fantastic views from the front of the pod, and the side garden, and brilliant star gazing (when weather allowed!) from the hot-tub, with several shooting stars observed!?* A complete "get away from it all" location - not an "A" road within 7 miles (be careful following Sat-Nav to other locations, as some of the routes can be rather adventurous, to say the least) ;-)! Hosts could not be faulted, very friendly upon arrival and departure, but happy to leave us in peace, in between - we have no doubt they would have fallen over themselves to help, if we had experienced any problems! Altogether, a lovely break away from normal life (even if it rained almost every day!!) - Thank you.

We had a 4 night stay at Ystrad Wen in June and we absolutely loved it.

The cabin was spotless, and everything we needed was there. Our welcome hamper had some lovely treats (the homemade brownies fab!) and was one of may really nice touches, like the binoculars, the sketch pad and pencils and the fresh flowers. The Cabin is 1 of 2 set in a lovely meadow field which magnificent views, and even with the open views it felt very private. The hot tub was perfect too, fresh crystal clear water when we arrived, you can tell it is changed between guests, which is appreciated. The view from the tub is awesome too. It was great getting a text on the morning we were due to arrive to welcome us and let us know what time the cabin would be ready, and some tips on directions too, so we managed to get there early with no wrong turns. If you are considering Ystrad Wen, I would encourage you to book it! We are hoping to be able to return sometime soon.

    Frequent questions

    • What are the best holiday cottages in Wales?

The best holiday cottages in Wales include Barn in Mid Wales, a sweet one-bedroom cottage set in the dramatic surroundings of the Brecon Beacons National Park; Trem Y Foel, a snug two-bedroom cottage in the market town of Llanrwst, and The Cabin, a hot tub lodge in Carmarthen.

    • How can I find a good deal on cottages in Wales?

If you're looking to get a good deal on a holiday cottage in Wales, consider booking during the off-season or shoulder season, when demand is lower and prices are typically cheaper. It always pays to be flexible with your travel dates and length of stay, as this can sometimes lead to better deals. With these tips in mind, you can enjoy a great value holiday in a beautiful Welsh cottage without breaking the bank.

    • What is a typical Welsh cottage?

A typical Welsh cottage is a traditional stone-built house that is usually found in rural or semi-rural areas of Wales. These cottages are often several hundred years old but still retain their unique charm and character, for example thick stone walls, thatched or slate roofs, and small windows with wooden shutters. Inside, Welsh cottages typically have a cosy and rustic feel, with exposed wooden beams and fireplaces that provide warmth during the colder months.
