What our customers say about their holidays

    • Charlene - Verified booking

Upon arriving at pinewood retreat we was greeted with and immaculate complex , amazing new built lodges with balconies and great facilities such as the indoor pool.

That unfortunately was where the perfect start ended . We drove round looking for our plot of perfection repeatedly passing a dilapidated old wooden loads in the corner of the park assuming it was a potting shed for the gardener or of sort . Nope it was pinewood ten. We was greeted with a seen from Im a celeb get me out of here style bush tucker trial . A mass of cob webs all over the front of the shed . Most very dusty and old so no magicaly appeared over night . Some where trapped in between the glass panes so all you could see was a Halloween hue of the immaculate site. We opened the door to 70’s themed Interior and small that can only be described as one of a nursing home for the elderly . The sofa had no cushion material left so you could feel the Lats in your backside . The lights didn’t work in the kids room to add to the Im a celeb theme. And it was just dingy and awful. Not a problem the weather was great we’ll eat outside ….. errrm no the out side table only had a 3 chairs for a 4 birth “property “ I can stress how much we would return to the site but sadly Pinewood 10 is only fit for the log pile . We was given a discount when booking this due to potential building work being carried out. The builders hare made any disturbance and again was immaculately tidy . I hate to think what the retail price was supposed to be. In short the British government wouldn’t house refugees in this “ property “ let alone charge for the privilege

      No 10 was lovely!

It’s tucked away on the end in the corner so pretty much total privacy. Tbh, I’m a bit of a clean freak and had bought my own cleaning things with me to give the place a once over but as soon as I walked in I could smell the place was clean and kept clean, as a wood cabin would soon start to smell iffy if it wasn’t cleaned properly and regularly. I had also brought some spare bedding….just incase my ‘clean issues’ had a problem with what was there but again, bedding and towels were lovely and clean and smelt fresh too and beds were comfy. The kitchen was well supplied for cooking and was clean. The living room area was comfy enough on the evening and tv worked just fine. The building work was no problem as we were out doing holiday stuff during the day. The pool was great as we pretty much had it to ourselves first thing each morning. Laundry room came in handy, that was lovely and clean too. Met a few others residents and they were all lovely and really friendly Overall we were really happy with our stay and will probably return next time we come to Devon. Thank you

We loved our stay at the Lakeside Cabin.

The owner Rob and his son made us very welcome. The tackle shop onsite was very reasonably priced with a very good range of products .The trout were beautiful, great fighters and in very good condition, all credit to Rob's management. The grounds are gorgeous, peaceful with plenty of wildlife to see, deer, kingfishers, sparrow hawks, buzzards etc.The cabin was simple, clean , cosy and warm, good water pressure and hot water on demand (it might be time to upgrade the mattress as the bed was pretty hard).Limited mobile phone reception but possible in the cabin doorway and grounds. Easy drive to the coast (Seaton tram ride and Beer worth a visit )and well worth joining The National Trust pre trip for other local attractions. Overall, we had a great time, Rob was always on hand if required providing expert fishing advice and top tips for the local area. We look forward to returning in the near future. Thankyou for a great stay !

The property was in a good location.

However the property itself did not end up being what we hoped. The property was not very clean at all, there were dead bugs by the kitchen sink, and we even found one in our bedroom drawer. It was very dusty, one of us is asthmatic and was coughing and sneezing throughout the stay. As we arrived, we noticed that the property smelt of cigarettes and wet dog. We appreciate that it is a dog friendly property, but as people who have grown up with dogs, we know this smell can be controlled. We had half a toilet roll to last the week, and this inevitably run out, we had to buy our own, along with our own hand soap. The hot water ran out and resulted in cold showers. There were no curtains in the kitchen/living room area; we felt very exposed and as we were staying on someone’s property and there were people walking around the land. This was very uncomfortable for us.

      Idyllic location, so peaceful.

The cabin is basic but we found the kitchen well stocked with equipment. The mattress on the bed is soft and we were worried we wouldn't be able to sleep but we had no problems and slept well. Shower was good and there was plenty of hot water. Be careful with the hot water in the taps as it is very hot. As stated in the description there is no phone signal and no internet access, so it's a good idea to try and do your research on the area before you arrive. There are no maps in the cabin so if you are planning on walking you will need to take one with you. There are plenty of walks listed on the Black down Hills website and we found the instructions really good. It would have been useful to have a visitors book as we often look at these to see where people recommend for eating out, visiting etc
