What our customers say about their holidays

    • Beatriz - Verified booking

Property was falsely advertised as having Wi-Fi.

Additionally, when we got to the property, there was an eco-toilet, which was not mentioned in the advertisement – it’s standard to mention this feature, and we had ruled out other options because they had an eco-toilet. The property’s kitchen was not clean to an appropriate standard – there were crumbs across the surface, sticky rice in the chopping board and the utensils were not properly clean. I have coeliac disease, and any trace of gluten makes me violently ill, so this was a big concern for me. There were cobwebs across the property, demonstrating a lack of maintenance and cleanliness. On the day, we got contacted by Sue (the owner) to let us know the previous guest had broken the blind in the bedroom. She stated her husband was not able to fix it, but her son would come by later on to fix it – when we got to the property, it had not been fixed, which meant we had no privacy inside the hut. The other side to the privacy issue was that the property advertisement was misleading in that it used language emphasizing the privacy of the garden and hot tub, including tactical angles on the pictures, when in reality, there’s another hut right across from it, so every time you’re outside at the same time there’s essentially no privacy. The blind in the bathroom was also not working properly. This trip was meant to be a relaxing experience to enjoy my birthday, and it just turned into a nightmare. I refused to spend my birthday in such a place, and we contacted Sykes Cottages exposing all the issues encountered. They took responsibility for the false advertisement of the Wi-Fi and refunded us the booking fee - £42. They did not take responsibility for anything else and suggested we went back to the hut so the owners could attempt to make things right. We refused to go back and in hindsight my instinct was correct. I looked at reviews on Google of their campsite Pattacott Farm Glamping and Camping (where the hut is located), and there were multiple 1 star reviews alluding to police presence, knives, and domestic abuse between the owners. I wish I had checked these reviews beforehand. Funnily enough, Sue messaged me saying they had never had any issues before - if you look for those reviews, you will see it's simply not true. According to Sykes Cottages, Sue refuses to offer compensation even though we only used 1 out of 3 nights (out of necessity, otherwise we wouldn't even have stayed the 1st night), so we lost £311 for absolutely nothing.

My wife an I stayed at the property for the last week in October half term 2024.

We chose to book the Friday to Friday because the price difference like everything goes up by alot for half term, the Saturday to Saturday was going to cost alot more. We arrived on Saturday morning, we had no choice but to loose a day already because of work commitments. We were a little disappointed, we had our towels changed because the ones already in the property had old make up stains on them. Every single blind covering windows had damaged shutters on. There was marks all up some of the walls like someone had dragged a suitcase across it. But most of the walls in the property had marks or scratches on them. Make up hand prints on the walls in the bathroom. The floor was a state, all round the edging of the laminate/tiled style flooring in kitchen that went into the bathroom was all chipped and worn away. Inside the draw under the wash basin in the bathroom looked liked it had something burned/spilt into it. The coffee table in the sitting room had horrible black marks all over it, and what looked like chunks of wood chipped out of it. The ceiling light hanging down in the sitting room looked like it was hanging off. Not all lights for the outside porch area were working. The fencing on the decking behind the hot tub had broken slats hanging down. Plant pots with weeds growing in them which just made it all look really run down. However, we didn't allow it to effect our holiday, and we can't fault the staff, we made the ladies on reception aware straight away because the last thing we wanted was to receive an email to pay a house keeping charge after the holiday, and luckily we did as they made us aware that they were ONLY aware of ONE blind being damaged. But the ladies were really lovely and understanding, they took note of everything we had mentioned. The area itself where the lodge is was lovely, very quiet and secluded. But the big question, would we stay there again? And a simple answer would be no :( and it's such a shame because in the pictures it looked amazing. We just feel that for the money that we paid, it just wasn't worth it. If we had paid for the Saturday to Saturday, I think it would of been more upsetting for us because of the extra amount of money wanted for that week.

We spent an absolutely amazing two weeks at Willow Lodge, nestled on the edge of a small wood it's picturesque, secluded and beautiful.

On arrival we found a delicious cream tea waiting for us and some milk in the fridge, the lodge was very clean and well equipt with everything we needed, including dish washer tablets and hand soap. Not having to take towels was an added bonus too, the car was already chocker block! The lodge is a perfect base and is 30-60 minutes away from pretty much anywhere you want to go. The only thing I would say the lodge could do with is some hooks to keep the doors open as they kept blowing shut when it was windy, and some bath robes for when you get out of the hot tub would be brilliant. The hot tub itself could do with upgrading as a few of the jets didn't work but it was still a very welcome addition and was used on all but 2 of our 14 days, the kids loved it and after a final dip on the morning we left we forgot to take the swimming things out of the washing machine after spinning them, Anne was kind enough to return them to us along with a light control my son had left behind. Anne is an extremely friendly host and always on hand to help with any problems, our toaster was only toasting on one side which we said wasn't a problem as the other side side worked fine, but it was still replaced very promptly. She also checked in a few times to make sure everything was ok and was very helpful with some local questions we had. One tip, if using sat nav during your stay, don't have it set to quickest route, we only found this out in the second week after realising the A30 and A39 will lead you pretty much everywhere, sat nav will take you down all the narrow, winding (and frankly scary at times) roads because it thinks it's the quickest way but because you can't get over 10-20mph it can double your travelling time. Overall we would highly recommend this lodge and have already started saving to go back.

This Property was very nice to stay at.

We booked it for 4 nights and wish we could’ve stayed longer. The area was quiet and you were left undisturbed. The property included everything you needed, would’ve been nice if there was some board games at the property- would’ve added a nice touch but really isn’t something I would complain about. The property was in a lovely, clean and welcoming state which made you appreciate the lodge. Everything worked as it should’ve, the hot tub was all clean and ready for when we arrived. We were greeted with a nice welcoming box which included: sugar, tea, biscuits, cloth and sponge for cleaning and dishwashing tablets- 1 for each night we stayed. It was nice having doors that opened right onto the decking where the hot tub was situated. This meant you didn’t have to walk around to the front door in the cold. The hot tub was sheltered by a roof which was nice if it started to rain whilst you were in there and included lights that lit up the outside hot tub area. The bed was comfy and the closet included plenty of storage area for your belongings. The sofa was comfortable and the TV was a good big size for watching movies and unwinding. The kitchen area was very smart and included everything you would need. The bathroom area was modern and relaxing- the only pointer I would pick out was the silicon sealant around the top of the bath tub where the taps were wasn’t fully sealed and looked like it needed resealing. Overall this property was very nice and I would honestly come back and stay again for sure. Thanks for having me.

We had a wonderful week at Willow lodge.

The lodge has been upgraded with new carpets and sofas which has improved the overall look of the lodge and was a pleasant surprise on arrival …photos online should be updated to show this. We stayed with three teenagers and they loved the hot tub which was used everyday and was very much the highlight of the lodge. We chose the lodge due to having a hot tub but also the location which was so peaceful and not overlooked at all. It was a great base in which to explore Cornwall. The lodge is spacious and the bedrooms had ample space for everyone staying plus lots of space for clothes storage. The beds were comfortable and the shower was more than adequate. A problem with the shower was dealt with promptly by the owners. Overall everyone in our group had a wonderful stay and we would recommend staying here. It would be lovely if there were some garden games stored in the outside cupboard as there is a good sized lawn in which to enjoy them, badminton sets or swing ball etc. Lastly, the personal touches of delicious scones, jam and cream on arrival were a welcome treat and loo rolls, washing up liquid and tea towels also welcome as an additional extra that most properties do not include.
