Bell cottage is a lovely small quirky cottage that unfortunately sits in a not too brilliant position.
Location isnât great as itâs hemmed in by other big buildings and a big conversion is being carried out currently on the property opposite into an 11 flat house of multiple occupancy. Work began at 7 am and continued all day with the accompanying noise and comings and goingâs. Obviously this is only temporary but it impacted my stay. The cottage smelt faintly doggy when I arrived and every time I returned..Iâm not a dog person ,and this may not bother those who are. Despite that the cleanliness was absolutely fine. Good kitchen facilities..everything was perfect....slight issue with fire starter pack not being available that was quickly sorted with discussion with the owner..I hadnât read the small print that this isnât provided after the end of March...but the weather still being very cold at night I managed to buy some fuel from the nearby coal merchant Roger, who was most helpful. TV.....a major issue.....some expensive kit but no normal TV channels without going through a long winded laborious process using various appâs BBCâs I player, you tube etc....all a bit too complicated to even bother with. All in all..a nice cottage but spoiled for me mainly by the location...a tiny yard at the rear and nowhere outside at the front to sit..but I canât blame anyone for that..itâs just the nature of this particular property. Thanks anyway...enjoyed the few days overall.

Swanage was lovely but unfortunately Poppy cottage did not meet our needs at all.
I stayed in the double bed which was extremely comfortable, however my mother stayed in the twin bedroom & had to remove the duvet from one bed so she could lie on it as the mattress was so uncomfortable, the springs were jutting out so much, they are obviously old and need replacing. I am almost certain that the description did not state a downstairs bathroom (though looks to have been updated since) & there was absolutely no indication of the fridge being in a cupboard under the stairs, I definitely would not have booked. The configuration is all wrong & the term "swing a cat" comes to mind. I actually think we ought to be reimberesd the service charge as I actually removed cobwebs from the windows, wiped down the limited work surface & washed cutlery/crockery before use. It is fortunate that neither of us needed the cooker as there was a 'fat' filled baking tray inside the oven. Also, as the front door doesn't appear to be used often, dirt/dust is building up, & the furniture needs moving regularly to dust underneath. I will not be recommending dream cottages if this is the standard that you find acceptable.

Very very disappointed .
. After being a Sykes customer for many many years over 20 this will be the last time I will be !!!!! Poppy cottage let us down badly Tuesday evening 8pm we were left in the dark for 4 hours using just the torch on our phones .. Wednesday morning No Hot Water unable to get a shower and stuck in until 1pm missing our booked day trip â¦Thursday morning awoke to find the electric had gone off AGAIN We then decided to make our way home a day early We have made contact with Sykes everyday since to request some form of compensation for our spoiled holiday Totally dissatisfied with the service and the response of a measly £50.00 offered and told by Sykes that they are just the agents and no refund can be offered by them just the property owner whom we are not allowed.the details of to speak directly to ?????.. What a disgrace I feel totally let down £750 paid for a holiday that was stressful and cut short We are two ladies that have never needed to complain before and are only asking to be treated fairly £50.00 is an insult

Generally a nice place in quiet surroundings although a busy yard due to it being on a working livery.
Your private courtyard garden has a lovely hot tub, both could have done with a better clean, on the outside of the hot tub and floor of the courtyard. The stairs have a twist in them and the shower is in the bath. So if you had mobility issues then the place is not for you. The bathroom would have been better with just a walk-in shower. One morning we didnât have any hot water. This was reported and fixed quickly. We sat there for an hour waiting for someone to fix it. Whatever the problem we was not told it had been fixed. On the day of departure, maintenance people were in the property as we were loading the car. We found this rather rude and shouldâve waited until we had left. No fire instructions but we did find a fire blanket and extinguisher in a kitchen cupboard. On the whole we enjoyed our stay, the place being new and a year old. Just those pointers for improvement. We would consider returning.

We often stay in historic cottages and feedback did say it was small so we weren't expecting a palace but it is REALLY TINY in the kitchen and bathroom.
Impossible to shower without flooding bathroom (combination of tiny cubicle, shower curtain and holder/head that won't turn away from the curtain!) Well provided with anything you'd need in kitchen but again so small couldn't really do more than breakfast in there. Bed was really comfy but only a double due to size of space (not issue for many but my 6ft3 partner found it a bit tight!) Only window that opens downstairs is tiny bathroom window so very warm once the sun came out. The image of front door/garden is lovely but can't really use it - there is chair in front of the door and if you do manage to get it open the garden isn't fenced or private in anyway but shared with several other cottages so hopeless if you have a dog (there is a paved back garden but not as pretty!) Not the owners fault, but strong smell of marijuana throughout the downstairs - assuming from neighbours....
