What our customers say about their holidays

    • Tracey - Verified booking

Having recently stayed for a week at The Barn, we are happy to provide a review.

The Barn access upon arrival, was by lockbox with a code. the Barn is down a track about 1/2 mile long, with some 4 properties in the vicinity, with the owner Alyson, who is lovely, in a home attached to the Barn. The location is very quiet and was what we had hoped for. It has a paddock with 6 sheep adjacent to the front garden and the rear garden is overlooked by the neighbouring properties. Both the front and back gardens are shared with the owners property, but we only saw Alyson coming via the front pathway and she was rarely seen in our week there. The Barn is spacious, with a large kitchen that Alyson mentioned that she intends to upgrade, but is all fine and good for a pleasant stay as it is. Off the kitchen you can find a doorway to a small hall that services the upstairs 2 single bed room, which is fine for children, a separate toilet and also what would be termed the master bedroom, complete with a modern en-suite. The master bedroom has a double bed and also a single bed in the room. The only thing I'd add to this master bedroom would be blackout curtains (they are not blackout at present in this room), although are present in some of the other bedrooms. Off the kitchen is a large spacious living room with french doors to both the front and also the back garden. There is a smart TV, good leather sofas and chairs and a log burner with an ample supply of logs, kindling, matches and fire lighters. Off the living room is a hall that services a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a full bathroom. The floors are in the main wooden and they do creak, but this adds to the charm of the place. On our arrival, in the kitchen, Alyson had baked some chocolate brownies and also provided some milk in the fridge. A nice touch. The place was an ideal base for us, and as the weather turned a little cold, Alyson even provided some more logs and kindling, which were much appreciated. We took our dog to the Barn and she was more than happy with the garden size, the sheep neighbours in the adjacent paddock and also being somewhat bemused by the mowbot, Alyson's robotic mower, that came out daily to over all the spacious gardens. Alyson also tends the many plants in pots and tubs around the gardens, which looked delightful and a credit to her. There is an outdoor bench and seats at the front garden, a clothes line and in the back garden, a stack of 4 chairs, plus a large table and a further 4 chairs. Perhaps the only thing missing from the rear garden would be a couple of sun loungers perhaps, but that is being perhaps picky. The wifi whilst not fast, was adequate. There was plenty of off road parking and the availability of little touches such as books on the coastal area, games in the bench seat in the kitchen, dishwasher tabs being provided by Alyson, as well as coffee, tea and sugar being available for us on arrival was great. Overall, this is a lovely place to stay and Alyson is the perfect owner/host, even offering a dog sitting service if needed, to avoid your pooch being left alone in the house, which is a no-no by the way for the booking. You will have to look far to get a better place to stay, but you will need a car to get to and from it, as it is off the beaten track, so to speak, but that wasn't a problem for us at all, we loved our stay.

I booked this cottage having stayed in another cottage on the complex before.

After booking and paying in full two weeks before our trip, I read the reviews to discover that the third bedroom has a toddler bunk bed. This was described in the small print, but I missed it. I contacted Sykes straight away to try to change the cottage. After several days of trying to get a response they told me via WhatsApp that I wouldn't be able to change the accommodation or get a refund. They were not interested. I then contacted the owner/caretaker number to discuss how they would be able to accommodate us. We had five adults in our group, and the property only has four suitable beds. Nobody bothered to contact me. We were stuck. My 18yr old had to sleep squashed into the toddler bunk, which dominated the very small room. She felt like she was sleeping in a cupboard. Upon arrival, there wasn't any welcome pack. There were dead ants all over the conservatory floor and on the dinning table. There was lots of long strands of head hair in the double bed (which was also the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in) There were crumbs on the kitchen work surface. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work. The tv was described as a smart tv, we couldn't get any clear reception. I am very disappointed with Sykes who you can't get hold of, it seems that as soon as they have your money they don't care. The people they use to clean the cottage don't know what cleaning is. The only positive is that the pool and grounds were well kept and a bonus. I will not be returning or be using Sykes or any of there partners again.

The details published on the sykes website are misleading.

We were not advised that the pool had to be booked in advance in 1 hour time slots. The gym and sauna were unavailable, having looked in the gym it contained two exercise machines and a few light free weights. The property had beds to sleep 6 people however, the bunk beds in the third room are tiny, I would almost say toddler size (this was not as pictured) and to stay it was a squeeze is an understatement, the bed literally fills the room and we could just squeeze around the door. This would be ok for a young family but not teenagers. Sykes and the owner did try to resolve the issue but the suggestion that boy and girl teenagers should share a room was not acceptable to us. A sofa bed which is not advertised was the solution but not what we would have chosen if we had of known in advance as this took up the whole of the living space. The sofas are not as pictured and were also very small. The property was not comfortable for us as a family of two adults two teenagers, a child and a dog. The property was very clean and tidy and the site and facilities were exceptionally clean. It is perfectly positioned to explore the beautiful coastline. We left the property early as we all needed some sleep given the cramped conditions. It was a shame and disappointing as the area and site were lovely. More clarity is required in your advert.

The Dingle is a spacious and well appointed bungalow set in a very quiet peaceful position.

The road down to the beach and pub is a fairly steep walk but there are alternative footpaths through fields and woods to the shore. The garden is mature and very well planted, the area beyond the excellent child/dog proof fence, is gradually and charmingly "rewilding" and worth exploring. The bungalow is well appointed and beautifully furnished and decorated throughout. The open plan kitchen is excellent for preparing sociable meals. We used both the BBQ and the permanent pizza oven which was fun and relatively easy, so come prepared with pizza flour and ingredients and have a go. The access to the front door has steep steps but access to the rear is by a narrow decked sloping path. Parking three cars at the front was easy. From the Dingle it is a pleasant and short walk to the excellent long sandy beach at Amroth; walking to Saundersfoot is easy along the shore path but remember there is the climb back up to The Dingle. It is a great place for a multi-generational family holiday.

      The property was fantastic.

Very spacious with a wonderful, modern kitchen, and fully equipped with every facility you could possibly want. All the beds are fitted with high quality memory foam mattresses and I would say it is probably one the of the most comfortable sleeps we have had in a cottage or hotel. The large enclosed garden was perfect for our two small dogs although if you have a very small dog (e.g. Chihuahua) you will probably want to keep a close eye on the raised decking as there are gaps in the banisters of 4 to 5 inches which one of our dogs managed to squeeze through at one point. The decking is entirely enclosed so you can just not let your dog out onto it. As an aside, we can thoroughly recommend Seven Spice, the excellent local Indian restaurant/take away in Kilgetty. Order your food an hour to two hours before you want to eat though… it is rightly very popular and demand for their food is high. We can thoroughly recommend the Dingle
