What our customers say about their holidays

This is a beautiful propery with spacious rooms.

It is tastefully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen is well equiped and we cooked several meals in the large kitchen. The owners left a lovely bunch of flowers to welcome us to Lower Culvermead. There is plenty of hot water. There is a small enclosed courtyard garden which our pet enjoyed. The cottage is sited in a quiet location very close to Tavistock, which is our favourite side of the moor. So that was brilliant! Our visit was in October and we noted that the central heating and bathroom towel rail is controlled by the owner, so you cannot just put it on if you feel chilly, or showering outside of the programmed settings. The owners advise that you text them if you wish the heating to be put on outside of its usual settings. During our stay the heating was on for 2hrs in the morning and 4hrs in the evening. The range was not in use. We thought that the range would make the property really warm during the winter months. There were no instructions on how to use it and it looked as though it had not been used for a long time. There were a couple of oil filled radiators for use if you felt chilly. We managed fine, as the central heating once on, was very warming. Our preference is to be able to control the heating, especially if you holiday during colder months. Although in the summer this would not be a consideration. We missed not having a brush and dustpan to easily sweep up crumbs etc from the kitchen, rather than having to use the vacuum. We enjoyed our stay and Rupert was very friendly and accommodating.

I’ve never left a review before, but I’ve never felt like I needed too.

This was one of the dirtiest places I have stayed in a long time! I took photos upon arrival and sent them straight over because it was unacceptable, animal hair all over the bed, pillows, throws; tables still having stains on from whomever stayed before us. It looked like because it was just after Christmas Day that the owners forgot to “fully” clean and so we had to do it upon arrival after a 6 hour drive. The bedding had hair all inside so that had to be washed before we could even sleep, there was also a very strange smell in the en-suite which we couldn’t debunk which lasted the whole stay. The beautiful flowers people spoke about in the reviews were half dead when we arrived, and it felt like no care was given before our stay. The place is also extremely dusty and needs a deep clean! It’s such a shame because I’m sure the place could be amazing if the thought was there for everyone’s stay.

What a lovely barn conversion on a proper working farm run by a lovely family who made us very welcome.

We loved the tour of the farm with Adrian the farmer who shared his love of farming and fantastic knowledge with us and allowed us to get up close to his handsome pedigree blonde Aquitaine cattle. The dogs, chickens, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, calves, cattle, lambs, sheep, pigs, and pigmy goats were all great, so if you like animals you would love this place. The cottage is is in a beautiful area of countryside, really close to Castle Drogo and not far from Dartmoor itself for excellent walking and there are some really good local pubs nearby serving delicious local food. We were delighted to find Jackie's homemade cream tea awaiting us on arrival and also some freshly laid eggs too! The week went much too fast and we would love to go again ... we did have glorious weather which always helps!

We had a lovely holiday at Bowbeer Farm.

The owners and their son were very welcoming and friendly. They also provided us with a good supply of farm eggs and sausages which were great value. The accommodation is very homely. Our teenagers loved the dogs on the farm, all the animals and having a pond to fish in. It was a god send as when we came back from a day out, the fishing gave them something to do that didn’t involve tech. Bowbeer Farm is in a beautiful area and fairly central for visiting many places. My ownly useful tip would be some better mattresses on the twin beds. They were very hard and my daughter really struggled to sleep on hers, so ended up on the sofa for several nights. Everything else was perfect though! Thank you so much.

We have stayed in many cottages through the years and we agree that this one goes to the top of our list.

It is beautifully appointed, roomy, warm and comfortable and the owners went out of their way to see that all went well. We spent much of our time sitting in the spacious and light kitchen with its big table. It is a bit off the beaten track but the surrounding countryside is beautiful and the nights are so quiet. There are lovely walks and a field across the road where one can sit for afternoon tea or to watch the sun set. The market town of Tavistock is nearby and worthy of many a visit for eating and shopping. For a peaceful holiday, we would highly recommend a stay at Lower Culvermead.
