"Very disappointing given that we checked with the company to see if all the things that other visitors have rated as poor had been corrected/repaired. The company had checked with the owner who reassured them that everything had been addressed. This turned out to not be the case! I had been hoping to reverse the negative reviews but alas cannot do so.First the positives. Some elegant furnishings and bedrooms and bathrooms are pleasant. The 2 bedrooms with en suite on the first floor are spacious. Television in lounge is good but a shame only two pople can view it. Also a television in master bedroom but we did not try it out. The balcony and small court yards are quite quirky features and somewhere to enjoy a glass of wine if the weather is fine. Although the bedrooms do accommodate 8 people the other rooms do not!! The table in the kitchen could, at a push, seat 6. There are only two 2 seater settees in the lounge but only two people are able to see the television. You can get a third to be able to view if you prop the door on the cabinet housing the TV open with a chair. Beware if you are used to having a welcome pack as there is literally nothing at all left for visitors not even a pint of milk ; even the salt was empty! I have been renting holiday cottages for neatly 40 years and have never ever not been greeted with a welcome pack of some description. The owner was there when we arrived. The house was cold so I asked how to switch the heating on. She said the house would warm up. It was a good job I pressed her to show us as she seemed flummoxed when it would not go on. Turned out the pilot light was off. No problems with heating thereafter. She went on at length about how visitors had damaged and broken things. The house is dark and unfortunately several light bulbs need replacement - not a guest's fault I am assuming. The old dishwasher was not getting things clean but my husband managed to fix the loose blade which fell off on the first cycle. Electrical items have not been PAT tested since 2013.A recent visitor has mentioned the fridge. There was a note inside the fridge saying out of use and to use the one in the utility room. Although it was cool it was not at a correct temperature to keep food. Even the milk that normally keeps for a week was off by day three and all the meat we bought from Morrisons when we arrived had to be thrown away. The smell was appalling!!!!! There is a washing machine and a drier bur the drier does not work and seems to have a broken catch. Before we left we found a note in a drawer saying the washing machine was for use by cleaning staff and not for use by visitors. By this time we had already used it. We did try to contact the owner about the fridge and other things that did not work and left a messge about the things we were concerned about . She finally got back to us the day before we were due to leave!! We were told again that everything that was wrong had been broken by previous guests - something she had said to the letting company. There was a router in the main bedroom and a password in the property book but we were told there was no internet and she had not advertised the property as having internet access- I could not check on this so assume it was our misconception . We had spent ages trying to access it!! The drier was not for visitor use. Bring your own hairdrier as that is broken too. The pans have definitely seen better days - no longer teflon coated and need a good clean or better still replacing. We have photos. Sorry to be negative but so many things wrong with this property. I have never written a negative review before and have visited many properties with a variety of companies. I would not want other visitors to be as disappointed as we have been."

"Mill Quay cottage is wonderful. Just the right size for two people and a dog! We found we had most things we needed for our stay. The lounge was very comfortable with a decent sized TV and a dvd player for cosy nights in front of the fire, wifi, and a radio in the kitchen to listen to whilst cooking. There is a dedicated parking space and a little lawned area for guest use. The location is really fabulous - wonderful views and peaceful. We found the neighbours in the other three cottages around the mill pond very friendly and quiet - particularly Alan and Nick! Thank you for the tips on the area! There are some points that unfortunately I have to make regarding cleanliness and comfort. The kitchen bin was full of rubbish when we arrived, there were cobwebs everywhere, there was no wood pack for the fire, and the bed linen wasn't the best. There were human hairs in the bed (!), no top sheet to sleep under (it was too hot for a duvet) and the bottom sheet was very bobbly and generally the linen was very creased. The mattress was the biggest bugbear as there was terrible roll-together (constant waking one another up as we ended up in the middle of the bed) and it was lumpy. This really could do with being addressed as a good night's sleep is paramount. Also, I don't know if the owners are aware, but there is only sufficient hot water for about a three minute shower, and when running a bath one only manages about six inches of hot water. We had to boil kettles and pans of hot water to have a decent bath, and when showering wait half an hour after one had showered before the other could whilst the water heated back up.I really dislike having to complain about things as I run a B&B and know that it can be difficult to please everyone all the time, however the mattress/bedding and the hot water issue need to be addressed. I contacted the caretaker regarding the lack of wood pack and the kitchen bin - he apologised and delivered some wood to us the next day, so all fine there and no harm done. In fact, he even sorted out a faulty lamp in the bedroom (assume that the bulb had blown - some spares in the laundry room might be a good idea) so that we had reading light at night - thank you Syd! Some information regarding where to put rubbish would be helpful too (we had to ask the neighbours). There was a nice welcome card and lovely bottle of wine waiting for our arrival, which we enjoyed whilst sitting on the lawn and watching the terns and swans on the mill pond - thank you for that, it is a thoughtful touch. Overall (if the mattress was sorted out) we would stay again without hesitation as it was a wonderful relaxing holiday in a great location for visiting areas on the south coast of Cornwall."

"So many things wrong. In short, it smelled damp and unpleasant the moment we walked in. Lady showing us in disappeared rather quickly. Everything felt damp downstairs soft furnishings wise, fridge 1 not working, fridge 2 small and didn't keep food etc fresh (milk went off well before due date). Lounge damp smelling and very dingy, tv completely unusable probably due to being about 20 plus years old and towels thin and in one case disgustingly stained. Dishwasher wheels fell off whenever bottom tray opened and most crockery chipped(very little matched) which was a theme continued throughout the house. Oh and only one key between two families and no door between one bedroom and its ensuite. These are the highlights. Offered paltry compensation from owner after initial complaint. Not impressed."

"This was the cleanest holiday home we have ever stayed in. Everything was absolutely spotless and the beds were so comfortable, a real bonus after a long tiring journey. Unfortunately we rented this accommodation for the purpose of a family funeral, but would not hesitate to stay there again if visiting Plymouth. The view of the docks lit up at night (out of the back), was quite a novelty, and the trains going past did not bother us at all. There is also a local Londis, a few minutes walk away which is very handy for self catering. We couldnt have wished for nicer accommodation. Oct 2009. "

"Fabulous cosy cottage extremely warm, views totally stunning - great location for walks and visiting neighbouring places, padstow, tintagel and boscastle well worth a visit - cycling along the camel trail is a must. Syd The caretaker was very friendly and helpful, the bottle of wine was very welcomed! The only very slight negative about the property would be the hot water - there would only be enough hot water to run a very shallow bath so had to resort to boiling up pans of water so easily got around the problem - would definitely stay again as we had a very enjoyable Christmas there."
