"There is no doubting the absolute beauty of the building and the area especially on first impressions, and the quirks of a building of that age are to be expected too, however despite the quaintness and charm that were present in abundance, the place was in dire need of a thorough cleaning. While some cobwebs are to be expected, I couldn't even reach a plug socket behind a bedside table without becoming absolutely covered and had to use a spare dishcloth we'd brought with us in order to clear away those just around the bed and stands in our own room - each room had the same and there was no duster on site. Upon arrival to the cottage it was discovered the fridge had had something spilled that had dried and left a smell and had not been cleaned out properly plus the necessary number of towels had not been left; when this was brought to the caretaker's attention we were told we were welcome to seek alternative accommodation if this wasn't to our standards. And towards the end of the break when someone had used the upstairs shower, this obviously needed re-sealing/grouting as water later was discovered dripping through the ceiling and down one of the walls downstairs. I did ring to alert the caretaker but got an answer machine so left details but had no follow up to this so assume it's a known issue but again couldn't be sure. While these things didn't spoil the trip as the place truly is beautiful and with good weather I couldn't think of a better setting, it was a shame it doesn't seem better cared for as it's really a unique and stunning building with so much character."

"A weeks stay in this amazing gem of a cottage was such a lovely experience. Great information and instructions given to us beforehand from the owners and a wealth of information on the village and the area is available in the cottage. Lovely welcome pack on arrival, everything we needed to start our week. It was certainly home from home. Instructions for all the electrical equipment and all mod cons are provided. This cottage is very comfortable and very welcoming. Before we arrived we had concerns about parking but it really was never a problem, just follow the instructions given and it is easy. Alton is a lovely little village, Londis is a god send, as we found the pubs food availability hit and miss, maybe because it was 'out of season?' nowhere serves food on a Monday and The Royal Oak is now closed, however The Bulls Head is definitely worth a visit and is literally 2 mins walk away, great food, good variety of ales and ciders. There are plenty of pubs to drive to and the Lovely Denstone Garden Centre just a few miles away, great food served there. The cottage is located on the road to Alton Towers, approx 1 mile away, we visited twice. Lots of local walks, The Ramblers Retreat is well worth a look, open Tues-Sun 10-00 - 4:00 This cottage was a delight to stay in and certainly has everything you need for a great holiday. Many Thanks to the owners for making our stay so special."

"This cottage is genuinely a home from home. Upon arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome pack that included a personal note and a bottle of wine. The cottage it's self is amazing and has everything you would ever need. If fact it's my dream home! It's immaculately clean and has everything you would ever need, including a PlayStation in the attic room (we lost our 17 yr old to this most nights). The small village has a warm welcoming feel with the shop selling any essentials you may need. Alton towers is literally 2 mins up the road and we took great joy watching the steams off traffic leaving the park every night knowing they may have a long journey ahead of them! Ha ha. I cannot rate this cottage more highly, with its warm welcome, cleanliness, small village feel, local aminities and close proximity to Alton towers. We really can't fault it!"

"What a lovely place, they had board games, dvds, computer games and books for kids to have a play with. The place was very much more like a home than a holiday cottage, which made holidaying with young kids that much easier. They also left us a welcome pack which included a bottle of wine, which after forgetting to pack any and having a nightmare day with kids before getting there, was a real life saver. Very close to Alton towers (5 mins drive maximum), and 15 mins from peak wildlife park which was a great day out with the kids. Also if you had kids and want somewhere nearby to take kids to ride bike and scooters and feed ducks only 10 mins drive from nice lake next to JCB lakeside club. Free and lovely on a nice day."

"Arrived Friday afternoon with Family and Friends and stayed until Sunday morning, we all had a great weekend and couldn’t recommend this place enough. When arriving there was some goodies from the owners which was a lovely touch also the whole cottage was very clean, all the towels and bedding was fresh and comfortable. The cottage is a great location to all near areas we visited Alton Towers for the Fireworks weekend and it was only 7 minutes drive away and had no problems with the traffic. Would defiantly recommend this place and even return in the future. Thank you for a great stay Ash house and we have some great memories."
