Wifi, although advertised as available, was non secured and would not connect anyway.
Not really a problem for us, but might be for others who may need it. There is a very noisy main road just below the property, the noise from which is quite invasive by day when outside or if windows are open. However it dissipates at night. Having said that, the woodland location and seclusion is perfect for those who enjoy walking and wildlife (we saw deer rutting, a fox, rabbits, birds of prey and squirrels from the house, and were serenaded by an owl (Little Owl?) most nights. There are numerous walks from the door, or further afield. The cottage itself is very warm and cosy, with plenty of wood for the fire/woodburer and piping hot water. We were only contacted twice by the caretaker, once to make sure we had arrived and were happy, and once just before we left to give us leaving details. Other than that we were left to our own devices. Just as we like. There were not reams of rules and regulations as is sometime the case at holiday cottages, so we instantly felt at home. Just one or two niggles : the upstairs loo takes an age to refill and the upstair shower head is "lazy" and wont stay upright. Perhaps a mirror over the basin would be better for those who wet shave. As a cottage in which to recharge the batteries it is perfect and had the desired effect.

We enjoyed our stay finding the cottage comfortable and well equipped with a patio, table and seating in a pleasant garden, off the main road but close to the local shop, etc.
and of course with an excellent welcome pack; our only negative comment concerned the main table in the kitchen. I remember before we arrived thinking that the photo of the table in the in the kitchen and the one shown in the living room both looked rather narrow and both against walls. There were only three of us but for a cottage that was equipped to take 6 adults plus some additional children it appeared that everyone sitting round a single table looked impossible. Anyway when we arrived it turned out that apparently the leaves from both tables could and had been inserted in one table making it four leaves wide so definitely wide enough, however it was still against the kitchen wall and immediately behind where people would be seated was the large double cooker flanked either side by the sink with draining board and a preparation area so not ideal for cooking. Worse still was the fact that the relatively narrow gap where people would be sitting was in fact also the âcorridorâ for getting from the stairs up to bedrooms/bathrooms to the freezer and fridge and the access to the sitting room and hallway. We dropped one leaf down on the wall side of the table which gave us a big enough table and improved access but to get through was still more like a game of musical chairs.

The house was a beautiful location and we loved it.
However on arrival there was a very strong smell of oil which made everything taste of oil and was very unpleasant for 2 days and probably not good for the health. We couldn't spend time relaxing downstairs and eating was not an option unless we wanted to taste anything other than oil. Ironically I had asked for the aroma sticks to be removed as we have an extremely sensitive sense of smell. Angie Brown was very helpful in getting out an engineer within the evening of the second day of our stay. The smell started to subside after that but it was a while before it disappeared although we could sometimes smell it when we returned after a day out. I appreciate that these things happen but I understand that this had been known about for 2 weeks and yet we still had to get an engineer out who spent at least an hour on it. For such a lovely place this didn't give us a good start. The surroundings were lovely and generally peaceful. We would come again if there was no repeat of the oil leak.

Elm Cottage served us well, during our stay.
It is a cosy cottage, with a home from home feel. The kitchen is well equipped and has good quality appliances. It is beautifully decorated through out. It just lacks some attention to detail. The ensuite room has no storage for clothes, it has items under the bed which could be stored in the shed (you could then buy under bed storage). We did have to clean a fair amount of dust from the floor and the bathroom door didn't close because the latch was out and the energy saving light didn't work. Despite a telescopic ladder under the bed, the skylight had a huge cobweb on. We found pine needles on the mantle piece, and the sofa was filthy and made you feel uncomfortable to sit on , it either needs a good clean or a cover over it ( which you could purchase from Amazon) We spent time in the garden which is well maintained and we made use of the BBQ, the hand rail needs to be tightened, as it is a bit wobbly. All in all we had a lovely stay

Cottage is beautiful, cozy and comfortable.
We had a lovely stay and itâs in a nice quiet location. The only reasons I havenât give top top marks is that local info needs to be updated. The local shop closed for good in November 22. Info in folder and tourist info needs updating. Gardener turned up whilst we were there as he thought the place was empty to mow the lawn. Lastly two loo rolls for up to potentially six people! We couldnât find anymore loo roll and there were no supplies for our first fire as described in the folder.we contacted the number re fire wood and was told somebody else normally sorts that. By the time we realised all of this we had had too much wine to drive the couple of miles to Tesco and then discovered the local shop was closed. Beds are lovely and comfy, garden beautiful and kitchen very well equipped. Love the fridge and range cooker. Appreciate the owner is abroad and itâs just little things but they do make a difference.
