What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Bowden - Verified booking

Very good location. A couple of miniutes walk from the beach with miles in either direction to walk along the shore. The links golf course at the back of the house meant scenic views across the area. Parts of the out of bounds area meant walkers were allowed to wander on the dune area next to the golf course which had wild birds visiting and resident , such as Skylarks nesting in the grasses. The Golf Club restaurant/Tea rooms/Licensed bar was conveniently out of the back gate and just across the car park with indoor and outdoor seating with a grassed area just in front of the putting practice area. The Jolly Fisherman in Greatstone about 30 minutes walk away did a very good Sunday Carvery. I booked in advance as it was Easter Sunday and the bar and restaurant were very busy. We visited Port Lympne Safari Park which was good. There is a station at Hamstreet about 10 mins drive with a free car park which allowed us to go by train to Canterbury (changing at Ashford) that was also good. The best trip was to Leeds Castle near Maidstone , about 45 mins drive. Spectacular looking place , being Easter there were lots of events and play areas for young children which were not used by us. But the Castle tour was particularly well organised with free headsets giving audio commentary , each room detected when you entered and so started the commentary but when it finished you could move on or not as suited you so you could photograph , linger and look at your own pace.

A clean and well equipped house but as this property is over 4 floors there are a lot of stairs to climb and holiday-makers need to bear this in mind when booking the house.

The house was clean and well appointed with a large kitchen area, The property caters for 6no people but there are only two sofas and 6 people on these would be a tight squeeze there were no other comfy chairs to sit on the house needs either larger sofas or two airchairs .The kitchen had all the cooking utensils required and more than enough glasses & plates, The Neff dishwasher had no salt or rinse aid and was completely empty of both and when we filled up the machine at our expense with salt & rinse aid it was obvious that the machine had not been filled in months, The garden at the back was small and overlooked by all the other house at the rear of the property so there was no privacy, This area was more a "yard" than a garden, ok if you wanted to barbecue but not much else .The undercroft car parking space was not very wide and a large 4x4 would struggle to park, The property was ideally situated for the pebble beach (no sand for young children ) Hythe as a town was well served by a Waitrose & Sainsburys supermarket and a delightful old fashioned High Street with plenty of pubs and restaurants also plenty of parking at £1.20 per hour The "jewel in the crown" is the Royal Military Canal with lovely walks and boats for hire,

The property is very modern and clean.

The kitchen was fitted out very well and equipped with plenty of utensils, dishes, cutlery and pans etc. There is a microwave oven despite previous feedback stating otherwise and is very simple to use. There was also washing up liquid & dishwasher tablets provided including tea towels, sponges, hand-wash, bin liners and cleaning products. There were plenty of clean towels and the beds & pillows were very comfortable. The Sky + TV is a great touch especially when the weather isnt great for a lazy day in. The instructions are very clear and useful including instruction manuals, local attraction and eatery leaflets. The Lazy Shack cafe and shop which is a stone throw away(1 min walk) is excellent and the property generally is located very well near the high street with plenty of nearby places to eat and shop. The parking was very good with the use of the under croft car port and an additional space in front of the property. Overall one of the best places we have stayed in as a young family. We would highly recommend this property.

Great location, lovely to have the sea view & Griggs for Breakfast or Brunch only a 2 minute walk.

The accommodation was spotlessly clean on our arrival, the communal areas were comfortable & sociable for 6 of us (all adults) Each bedroom was super comfortable & 3 bathrooms meant there were never any queues. If you’re a light sleeper on light mornings then eye masks will be useful if you want a lie in. Aldi & Waitrose are both walkable (but for a big shop take a car or several people to carry shopping bags!) There are also a great selection of restaurants & pubs serving food, if you don’t wish to use the very good cooking facilities in number 7(add a large casserole pot/saucepan along with sharp knives & it’d be excellent!) Hythe has a wealth of British history to discover, and with the train to Dungeness coupled with walks along the coast & inland we’d definitely like to return to see more of it & no 7 Ocean Gateway is ideally positioned to make the most of this area.

We all thought the cottage was lovely and in great condition, had a lot of character and a nice view over the golf course. I'd personally book again if I was going to the area. Bedrooms were great, especially the top with the ensuite. The weather was kind and mostly dry and sunny both days but windy on the Saturday. We went cycling both days. A round trip to Hythe following the beach and returning by the canal past the zoo. Plenty of stops for coffee and lunch on the way and a pint in the Star Inn on the way back. We ate in the Turkish restaurant in New Romsey for 2 nights - good value. We had a few beers and watched live music in the local pub at the far end of New Romney. We also had another ride to Dungeness which was interesting and stopped for a Fish roll on the way back - delicious. Overall it was a great weekend and we're thinking of making it a yearly event.

    Leeds Castle
Set within 500 acres of stunning parkland, Leeds Castle is famously one of Kent’s most beautiful country estates and offers a wide range of attractions including hot air balloon trips, arts and crafts shops, a maze, an Aviary, a golf course, fine cafes and restaurants and acres of beautiful grounds and gardens.
    Dover Castle
A medieval castle founded in the 11th century making it England's longest serving fortress. It is located on the iconic white cliffs and houses 80 acres of grounds for you and your canine friend to explore.

    Tonbridge Castle

Tonbridge Castle is reputedly England’s finest example of a Motte and Bailey Castle. Boasting a splendid 13th Century Gatehouse, it is also surrounded by acres of beautiful grounds. An audio tour brings to life the rich history. Today the castle hosts open-air cinema and theatre nights during the summer.

    Upnor Castle

This attractive turreted castle is set in the picturesque village of Upnor within an area backed by rolling, wooded hills. The fort was intended to protect both the dockyard and ships of the Royal Navy anchored in the Chatham Dockyard which is a short distance downriver. It entirely failed at this task in 1667, when the Dutch sailed past it to burn or capture the English fleet at anchor.

    Rochester Castle

Strategically placed astride the London Road, guarding an important crossing of the River Medway, this imposing fortress has a complex history of destruction and rebuilding. Today it stands as a proud reminder of the history of Rochester along with the cathedral and cobbled streets.

    Stoneacre (National Trust)

Stoneacre is a Grade II* listed National Trust property in Otham, near Maidstone. It is a half-timbered yeoman farmer's house and garden dating from the 15th century, together with a small garden, orchard and meadows. Arts and Crafts scholar Aymer Vallance saved this mediaeval yeoman's house from destruction in 1920, and restored it into the charming house that it is today. Toilets and picnic benches.

    Hever Castle & Gardens

Hever Castle began as a country house built in the 13th century and was home to the Boleyn family from 1462 - 1539 including Anne Boleyn, the second queen consort of King Henry VIII. The castle fell into disrepair in the early 1900s. Much of what you see is the result of the efforts of William Waldorf Astor, who used his fortune to restore and extend the Castle in the early 20th century.
