Choose from thousands of South East holiday cottages for your perfect holiday

The South East is a great place to visit to experience some of the best the UK has to offer.

Enjoy the buzzing seaside town of Brighton, complete with the Brighton Pier and iconic pebble beach. Why not visit England's capital city, London for some of the best food, stage shows, and museums in the UK? Or, if you want a quiet getaway, check out the tranquillity of Sevenoaks Deer Park or go cycling through the New Forest.

At Snaptrip, we have scoured this varied part of the UK to find the best South East self-catering properties. You can stay in a cosy cottage nestled in the Kent countryside, a rustic farmhouse in Berkshire, a beautiful old manor house in Oxfordshire, or even a lighthouse on the Isle of Wight.

Whatever requirements you might have for your dream holiday home, at Snaptrip, we'll help you find it.

Why choose the South East for your next getaway?

There is so much to discover in the South East. From miles of varied landscapes, picturesque countryside, historic towns, majestic stately homes and estates, stunning gardens, exciting cities, legendary landmarks, and even incredible theme parks.

The South East comprises several counties including Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex, Kent, and the Isle of Wight. With the White Cliffs of Dover, Jane Austen Country, the Garden of England, and so much more, your only challenge is where to base yourself during your South East weekend break or staycation.

If a city break is what you're craving, then you can't do better than the capital. London is home to the West End, countless theatres, exciting markets, the vibrant East End, stunning royal parks, and plenty of amazing attractions such as The London Dungeons, The London Eye, the Tate Modern, Buckingham Palace, and so much more.

Are you craving a break from city life? Base yourself in the beautiful Isle of Wight and visit storybook villages, dangle above the Needles in a chairlift, gaze at the multi-coloured cliffs of Alum Bay, and kayak to hidden caves in Freshwater Bay. Or why not stay in historic Oxfordshire in the Cotswolds? Marvel at the striking university, wander down pretty streets, go for a punt, and relax by the river.

For a classic seaside holiday, you can't beat Brighton and Hove. The Lanes are picture-perfect and bustling with exciting shops, independent boutiques, charming cafes, and intriguing antique shops. Head to the famous Pier and challenge friends and family to a game or two at the arcades, or hold on tight as you go on the rides. Don't forget to grab some fish and chips or a drink on the promenade and park yourself on the beach to watch the waves.

To fully immerse yourself in some of the UK's best natural landscapes, base yourself in the National Parks of the New Forest or the South Downs. Watch wild horses as they gallop across the plains or find wild pigs and deer grazing.

Hampshire is a lovely county in the South East. With rural scenery, historic dockyards, and countless abbeys and castles dotted across the landscape, you'll never be short of things to do. The land of Downton Abbey is packed with idyllic countryside, a dramatic coastline, bracing walks, and thriving cities and towns. If you're travelling with little ones, don't forget to visit Paultons Park, the home of Peppa Pig World.

Kent is filled with historic castles, from the beautiful Leeds Castle and dramatic Rochester Castle to pretty Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn and where Henry VIII spent his honeymoon. Kent is also home to more Blue Flag beaches than anywhere else in the UK. Relax in the white sands of Botany Bay, try your hand at watersports at Joss Bay in Broadstairs, or go on a fossil hunt in Folkestone.

We've only brushed the surface of what to do and where to stay in the South East. To discover it for yourself, book a South East holiday cottage today!

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Gary Richard Hipwell - Verified booking

Just returned from 7 nights at Well Cottage, what a lovely, tranquil setting. Perfect place for a couple to relax but still within 30 minutes maximum of lovely coastal towns of Whitstable and Deal. Canterbury and Dover are less and 15 minutes, and beautiful countryside and walks on your doorstep. The cottage itself is next to the main house of the owner but you do not feel overlooked or checked up upon, they introduced themselves when we first arrived but other than asking if it was ok to mow the huge area that is attached to the cottage, totally dog proof by the way, and 3 1/2 acres, we very rarely saw them. Going back to the grounds, they are wonderful, our dog, and we, loved it, totally enclosed, 1/3 mowed, the rest left wild with paths randomly mowed through to benches under trees and a fire pit area (unsure if this is just a family area only), lovely. We were lucky as the weather was hot and sunny all week and we were able to make use of the outdoor space, bistro table and chairs and a bench and coffee table to sit and eat out in the evenings. The cottage is quaint and well equipped for a couple, a nice welcome box with bread, milk, juice, eggs, tea, coffee and a lovely cake was a nice surprise, well equipped kitchen with a good variety of pots and pans and utensils, with dishwasher (we didn’t use), washing machine and fridge. Access could be difficult for less mobile people to the bedroom/bathroom area via the spiral staircase but there is a back outdoor stairway that gives access, my wife has just had a replacement knee 2 weeks ago and managed ok going up the the spiral and down the outside. Overall, lovely property for a couple and small medium dog, would definitely book to return sometime in the future.

A darling little cottage for 1 or 2 plus a small/medium pet, like ours (Jack Russell), which is attached to The Coach House so you are overlooked but this didn't bother us at all.

On entry, you walk straight into the galley dining & kitchen which provide everything you need for your stay including washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, ( even laundry pods! ) dishcloths, tea towels and oven mit. A nice touch was the bottle of prosseco, pint of milk, tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits, salt & pepper. There is a fire extinguisher. In the lounge , we are on the large size and found, the 2 seater comfortable. The wifi and freesat worked fine ( had to switch off and reset router once which is usual for us at home so not a bother). There is also a small selection of books and dvds. Toilet/shower room was clean and even I could squeeze into the shower so it is a good size and water was lovely. The provision of soap and toilet paper was a bonus. All linen and towels are hotel grade; White and soft. The bed is a double with a soft, bouncy mattress. Lush! You can squeeze past to get to the single wardrobe which was large enough for our clothes. There are only 3 drawers in the dresser but again this was enough for our smalls. We could hear our neighbours only when they went up or down stairs, otherwise it is very well soundproofed. There is a folder containing all the information you need (eg alternate bin collected on Tuesday and returned on Wednesday and they recycle). It was very clean, albeit a cobweb, but it is in the country so we weren't bothered by this. On leaving we were happy to strip the bedding and put into the laundry bag with used towels and ensure everything we used was washed and put away. We spent 4nights here and enjoyed walking the grounds of the house and gardens. We truly felt we were on holiday!

The Nut Hatch is the perfect location if you want to experience the peace and tranquility of village life in Kent. We stayed for five days and spent one day walking around the locality of Goodnestone ( lots of public footpaths and wildlife in the area ) and visiting the gardens of Goodnestone House then ending up in the local pub, The Fitzwalter Arms ( literally 150 yards from the Nut Hatch ). The food served in the pub was very nice and is well worth a visit. All the locals we met were so friendly which made the day so enjoyable. This location makes it easy to reach many of the County's attractions. For example, Canterbury 11.9 miles ( 24 minutes ), White cliffs of Dover 13 miles ( 23 minutes ). Last but not least, the owners of the Nut Hatch, Emma and James were so welcoming. Full of local knowledge and very helpful. The accommodation is well set out clean and tidy and has everything you need. Loved the log burner and the clear and precise instructions for lighting it made for a perfect fire. This is the first holiday let we've stayed in where you can have as many logs as you like for the log burner ( and not have to pay when the first batch runs out ) In conclusion - Lovely accommodation, Lovely hosts and lovely countryside. Couldn't ask for more.

      A lovely cosy cottage.

Was adequate for us two and our dog. Had all necessary things we needed. I read some previous reviews. The owners have obviously read these and actioned requests although they haven’t replied. So there are coat hooks and a frying pan ! And a lovely welcome basket of goodies. The grounds are beautiful and there’s lots of lovely walks Things to consider. The arrival time was 5pm we actually got there early. If we’d arrived at five we would not have found it as the area is pitch dark. There are several little cottages so had to get out and try to find it. We were more than happy to clean around when we left. But some cleaning items would have been good. Plus a couple of bowls for our dog These were minor issues. And we’d definitely come again to this lovely little Cottage

Pleasant, small, compact and bijou accomodation.

We had a pleasant stay at The Retreat only let down by the cleanliness and a liitle bit damp! Lots of dust cobwebs and dead flys. Needs a good spring clean. Parking was convenient. Our dog could safely wander round the grounds. Kitchen is small but adequate. Sofa was very uncomfortable. TV worked most of the time but the wifi did keep crashing and needed re booting. Bathroom is very small!.Shower was hot and didnt leak if you were careful! Bed was comfy but very tight to get in and out of. Nowhere to put your tea in the morning! Convenient shop down the road but avoid the local pub. Close to Ventno,Shanklin and Sandown which all have great beaches for the dog from the end of September.

It is a cutting-edge, research-focused university with many advantages, but it is especially strong in the sciences, where it recently ranked first in the world for medicine and among the top ten universities worldwide for life sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, and the arts and humanities.
