The scenery in the North Pennines is glorious and this comfortable cottage has wonderful views.
As listed, the kitchen is well equipped but small whilst the rest of the cottage is very spacious for three people. There is a large floor standing boiler in the kitchen which gives excellent heating and hot water to both properties but does make things a bit awkward. To find The Byre from the north east just go up Weardale to Lanehead and turn in to the left just after the tractor sign - the listing makes this more complicated than it is. The tea tray was laid out for us on arrival with nice biscuits and there is milk in the fridge, coffee, salt and pepper and stock cubes in the cottage. Wi-fi was sporadic but is good enough for e-mails and finding out about local attractions. The Alston to Penrith road is closed for five weeks so if you plan to go to the Lakes from here you will have to find another way. With excellent double glazing and trees planted along the road traffic noise is reduced but you will hear motor bikes particularly at the weekends and Bank Holidays - they love the Dales and sound like they are coming through the property! The highlight for us was seeing a red squirrel by the garage - first time in a lot of years. The owners are friendly and welcoming but take warmer clothes and rain wear as the weather can be as spectacular as the scenery!

The Cider Pound is very clean, modern and well equipped. There is ample space and the accommodation is furnished very comfortably. We would recommend anyone to stay there. The cottage was a rare treat, nestled in beautiful countryside it was so relaxing and tranquil with an abundance of amazing wildlife. Gilbert, Carol, Aubrey and family were excellent hosts. They were always on hand if you needed them and nothing was too much trouble. We had some superb chats and was given sound advice on the area, eateries and places of interest. North Devon's marvellous beaches, picturesque villages and moors were in easy reach of the farm, although some country lanes could be quite narrow in places. It was a joy to return 'home' to The Cider Pound after a busy day sightseeing. Evenings could be spent soaking in the hot tub overlooking rolling hills, whilst the sun sets on glorious countryside, absolute heaven. Highly recommend a these stunning cottages. The photos of the gorgeous barn and surroundings are very accurate but they can not do justice to the incredible views and wonderfully relaxed atmosphere on the farm. The owners are an absolute delight, especially Gilbert who was such a star. Having the hot tub maintained so well was such a treat. There are some stunning walks not far away and if castles and national trust parkland are your thing then you are in for a treat as they are literally on your doorstep. We discovered a fabulous pub in a pretty village with quintessential thatched roofs 35 mins drive away called The Agricultural Inn. It is definitely worth a visit. I would love to book one of the barns again in the not too distant future. The furnishings and equipment are all excellent, so clean and if good quality. I was so impressed with the holiday and have described it as magical.

Fabulous property, location was great, very quiet location. Very clean inside and all the essential equipment for our holiday. Sofa was large enough for 3 people to sit comfortably and the tub chair was also comfortable. Beds were comfortable and en-suite shower room large and very clean. Outside the gardens were colourful and well maintained and the hot tub was excellent. Cottage was in close proximity to many beaches. Clovelly was an hour away, good retail park near Bideford. Two pub restaurants nearby, The Exeter Inn in Brampton and The Anchor in Exebridge, both serving excellent food at reasonable prices and both dog friendly. Would stay here again in the near future as our holiday was so enjoyable.

Excellent directions to the atttractive cottage in a beautiful very quiet location with flat, easily accessed parking.
We had a lovely, helpful welcome from the owner, who lives next door. You walk straight into the attractive double bedroom which gives the access to a mezzanine, which would be superb for a primary school child. The bedroom also gives access to the excellent shower room and to the well equipped kitchen which leads to a big, comfortable lounge with log burner. We particularly liked the treasure trove of leaflets and books about the local area that we could use. There are also lots of DVDs available for those who wish to relax with a DVD. An ideal place for complete relaxation especially as the owner lets you relax in his garden and enjoy his wonderful view but that is down steps without a handrail.
