What our customers are saying about our Holiday Cottages With Gardens In England To Rent.

"Firstly I would say that the "cottage" was clean and tidy, however our initial and lasting impression was that it was incredibly small and dark. In effect it was not a cottage but a room with a mezzinine floor. The only direct light and ventilation into the lower level was from the front door and if that was open we could hear every word from the neighbour. It's description as a one bedroom property is inaccurate, the bed is on a mezzinine. Open plan is also stretching the point as it is basically a studio, with the daytime facilities cramped into an approximately 13 x 13 foot square space. The only window that could be opened was behind the bed, as the one above the front day was too far from the mezzinine bannister to reach. The view from the door was of a six foot fence and the owners property beyond. The description states "These properties are are situated in 10½ acres of unspoilt natural grounds on the edge of Dartmoor" but there were no instructions about how to access it. There was not even information on where the local supermarket was. The photos on the web site gave the impression of light and space, we felt so claustrophobic that we had to leave after two nights/one day of our one week holiday. The only communication from the owner/staff was when we were leaving despite my trying to make contact during our very short stay. If what you want is just a base from which to explore this may be the place for you but we wanted to relax within the "cottage" surrounds as well and this was not possible."

"Not sure if I have stayed at same cottage as other reviewers, cottage was clean and a great base for days out, village pub is excellent, shop is a good 15 minutes walk away at the garage.Cottage is basically a 2 up 2 down which has been altered to get a bathroom upstairs. There is no dryer or washing line and clothes took 2 days to dry on the clothes horse.Shower has no storage so all toiletries had to be left on the toilet and you need to keep opening the door to get to them. The road that has been mentioned in another post was used as a rat run early morning and late evenings when the village was quiet. We tried to cook breakfast for 3 but tin opener was broken and one small frying pan so ended up using grill, frying pan and saucepans to cook bacon, sausage, eggs, fried bread, Tom's, beans and mushrooms.Last of all we have a very hairy heavily moulting dog who has arthritis and doesnt go upstairs, we were accused of allowing our dog on the bed because it was heavily covered in hair, we cannot help that his hair sticks to our clothes, if there were drying facilities I would have washed the bedding, even when I explained about our dog I was still accused of lying, to me that's not good customer service, if you dont like dog hair dont allow dogs, they are not all like my other dog who hardly sheds.Overall pub was brilliant but for the size of property and facilities I feel it was overpriced."

"The place is a lovely, rustic farm very close to a field for the dog. The beams are a bit low so watch your head but the design of the Old Cow Shed gave you a really cottage feel. There was a lovely welcome basket with bread, homemade marmalade and jam, coffee and tea and the fridge had butter and milk. There was also a welcome basket for the dog with treats, bowls, poo bags and paw towels. We were in the middle between Bath and Stroud and were able to go out each day on excursions to Malmesbury Abbey, Wotton under Edge, (the Falcon Steakhouse pub in Wotton under Edge is dog friendly and the landlord brought the dog a bowl of water when we went in), Thornbury Castle, Roman Baths, Lacock Abbey, Dyrham Park, Newark Park and the Arboretum and come back each evening to a quiet, relaxing place for sleeping and wine drinking. The cottage is clean and well equipped for self-catering. The extra bedroom was useful as a changing area with a vanity for doing hair and makeup. The wifi is good for being in a remote site. Gareth was friendly and available if there were any issues. A lovely break that I would highly recommend if you want peace and quiet in a central location with good access to local sights."

"Penny and Gareth were the perfect hosts and went over, above and beyond what we expected from hosts. The location is on a small holding. We enjoyed 2 welcome baskets one for the humans and one for the dogs. We were offered more fresh eggs and given more home made marmalade, when we commented how good it was. One car failed to start, due we thought to a flat battery. Equipment was found and they left the battery charger running while we went out in the other car. On the day of departure, the car failed to start again and they assisted in trying to get it started. We were then able to continue to use the property until the rescue vehicle arrived, which was way beyond check out time. 2 patio areas with tables and chairs to enjoy the sun and the views. Highly enjoyable holiday, with great location and hosts."

"Loved visiting lilac cottage, what a stunning location. Beautiful stream through the village, a local farm shop (season varies as do product availability, would advise to check prior to visiting) the pub in the village serves wonderful homemade food. The cottage had everything we could ask for with comfort and equipment. We weren’t sure what to expect upon arrival so only bought partial amenities and had to go back out to obtain more as no welcome pack on arrival which was a shame but was soon overlooked once settled. Lovely basket of things to do on the area and about local towns. No WiFi which has its pros and cons. Would certainly return."
