A fabulous little hideaway retreat, just made for two. Tucked back from the coast road Owl Cottage sits in a small group of pretty brick and flint cottages in the charming coastal village of Stiffkey - a popular destination for holidaymakers all year round.
Grade II listed, Owl Cottage was once a temporary home to Henry Williamson, the author of Tarka the Otter, as attributed by the plaque at the front of the cottage. Once inside you will find it to be very spacious, pleasantly light and bright, with a warm, comfortable and relaxing decor and air throughout. The ground floor is principally a large open-plan living area that encompasses a kitchen/dining and sitting room, with extra warmth provided by a large wood burning stove for when the days shorten and the temperature drops. Next door there is further seating available in a small airy sunny garden room that overlooks and has access into an inner private walled courtyard garden. One of the bathrooms is on this level too; this one offering a bath for those who prefer a long soak for tired limbs, and has the luxury of underfloor heating. Up the stairs which, in keeping with age of the cottage, are steep and twist, but with a handrail to assist, is the lovely master bedroom suite, a dual aspect room with one of the windows offering views across nearby fields. With a king-size bed and an en-suite shower room, that also has underfloor heating, this is an inviting place to retire.
Much-loved Stiffkey which sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is home to one of the country’s richest salt marshes for wildlife, and has brick and flint cottages either side of the twisting narrow coastal road that runs through it. A destination for walkers and bird watchers, it borders the North Norfolk coastal path which meanders for miles in both directions. A bridleway twenty yards away from the cottage will lead you there. It's easy walking to the bustling seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea with its much photographed quay, frequented by local fisherman and their boats, about four miles to the west and to the east the village of Morston, where you can join a boat trip to see the seal colonies at Blakeney Point; a must-see for visitors to Norfolk. You can choose to stop for a spot of lunch, in either direction, and always jump on the Coasthopper bus if you are a little too weary to walk back!

We liked it so much we've already booked it again for next year! Clean, comfortable and well-situated, near to the excellent village shop and a good pub. It's also ideally located for coastal walks and picking up the frequent bus service along the coast.

Immaculately clean cottage in a lovely village with good access to the coast. Parking was a bonus as roads in the village are very narrow. A very peaceful location with a lovely private outside area. Staircase to the bedroom is very steep and needs careful consideration but would highly recommend this property.
