What our customers say about their holidays

    • Elizabeth - Verified booking

We have just returned after our second visit celebrating our wedding anniversary at Barley Meadow.

Staying in this property was my husband, myself and our 16 year old son plus our two dogs. If looking at staying here then look no further you will not be disappointed. You will greeted with a very warm welcome and a lovely welcome package from fresh eggs, milk, orange juice, dog biscuits, flowers to beautiful cream and jam scones. This property provides every accessory, comfort and utility you can think of. Torches, umbrella, dog bowls, dog towels, dish cloth, tea towel, well equipped kitchen, fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, blankets (not that you need them as this property is lovely and cosy) and WiFi. You just need to bring your clothes and yourself. Every little detail has been thought out carefully with hotel touches and has a wonderful home from home feel with spectacular views. The beds are extremely comfy with spotlessly clean bedding to ensure a relaxing stay and towels and towling robes provided for the amazing hot tub ready to use on arrival. This property is extremely clean and well maintained. You can see all the hard work that goes into making your stay an amazing one. A large beautiful garden with amazing views that is safe for your furry friends to run around. Friendly horses and sheep that come up to the fence to say hello is just wonderful to see along with ducks and chicken roaming about the yard. Peter is on hand for any questions and recommendations of places to visit along with ideas in your welcome book. This is a must to read and carefully put together so we can say first hand the recommendations are spot on. This property sleeps 4 people and we loved it so much last year our family stayed in the Orchard this year next door which now sleeps 6. Another beautiful property and extremely quirky it’s hard to say which we prefer so both we would happily stay in. Though only next door you still have complete privacy from the adjoining property and would not know you had neighbors. Completely secluded with amazing views but only a drive away to shops and local villages, come rain or shine, you will not be disappointed staying here. It truly is a little peace of heaven. Thankyou Peter and Jackie for our anniversary bottle of bubbly and already looking forward to our next visit x Daryl, Elizabeth and Cameron not forgetting Archie and Eric xx

The cottage was beautiful both inside and out. It was lovely and warm and welcoming. It was so quiet!. The only time I was woken up was by an owl hooting nearby. The garden is beautiful and tranquil. Sheena and Rod were most welcoming and are fabulous hosts. They are not intrusive and are extremely helpful in advising on local amenities and where they recommend to visit. Our dog Mylo was also made welcome with some dog chews which was a lovely touch, as was the cream tea when we arrived. The cottage was spotless, the bed HUGE and the bathroom beautifully appointed. We have stayed on a self catering basis all over the world and have always been disappointed with the lack of equipment. Not the case at Thyme… from foil to freezer bags, spatulas galore to toast racks, the place had everything we have in our kitchen at home. They have thought of everything!! We used Thyme as a base to visit the beaches to the west (we liked Duck Pool best), the north coast (Westward Ho! has a fabulous beach), we went down into Cornwall even as far as Plymouth and enjoyed many outings to National Trust properties. We thoroughly loved our week at Thyme and would highly recommend it both as a place to relax and a base from which to explore the beautiful southwest.

This stay was truly a little slice of paradise.

The owners John and Angela were the kindest and most welcoming hosts I have ever stayed with. My partner and I stayed over new years, and the views from this home did not disappoint! We had wonderful views overlooking the valley towards Exeter, with ancient woodlands and rolling fields surrounding us. The stay was cosy, incredibly clean, and the attention to detail was so appreciated. From the cupboard with books and board games to use during the stay, to the fully equipped kitchen which was fantastic to cook hearty meals in. The bathroom was spacious, and the bath was luxurious. Super comfy bed and pillows too! Our favourite aspect were the purebred sheep and friendly donkeys on site, who the owners very kindly introduced us to. Although we were not able to use the hot tub for the duration of our stay, the owners and Sykes cottages were extremely helpful with making sure we had anything else we could need. I would highly suggest this stay for any couples wishing to have a relaxing stay, with ample walks and adventures only a short distance away. I hope to return in the near future to stay again!

Absolutely fantastic holiday had by us.

Me, hubby, 12 year old son and Labrador. Pete and Jackie are fantastic hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. Very informative and very friendly. The property is just amazing. So much attention to detail making it feel like a real home from home. In fact better than home, because one very rare thing is usually when you go places, the mattresses are a little underwhelming. Not here. Those mattresses were absolute heaven. I am missing it already! Everything you could possibly need was in the cottage. Loads of towels, dressing gowns and toiletries. The welcome cream tea and also bread, milk, orange juice, eggs and fresh flowers was such a wonderful touch. That and the hot tub sure helped take away 13 hours of driving stress. All in all the only downside was we had to leave so soon!! I wish we had booked 2 weeks. Okehampton itself has plenty shops etc. if you get a chance, try Wongs for Chinese. Lovely man and yummy food. The New Inn at Sampford Courtenay is absolutely amazing (the chocolate fondant is out of this world) all in all a fabulous stay and we will be back

Fantastic house and has everything you need for a comfortable enjoyable stay.

Our teenagers loved the games room in the loft area and we all enjoyed the hot tub! The enclosed garden space was perfect for our energetic dog. The location is perfect to get to Westward Ho beach in about 25 minutes which is a lovely beach as long as you’re mobile enough to get over the cobbled stone wall first and Ilfracombe only half hour away where we took a fabulous speedboat trip. We found a gem of a hotel 5 mins away in Appledore - Durrant hotel I think it was called. They do lovely food and staff are very friendly and helpful it’s dog friendly! Really enjoyed our stay at Seagrass and will be back but just a couple of things would have made it a 10 all round for us, we feel for 4 plus people an extra comfy chair in lounge area or foot stools or pufe would make it more comfortable. There is just 1 TV in lounge which is very small, films we watched in the evening had tops of heads missing!
