"The hotel was very convenient and the Birds of prey right on site and walking around the grounds was very nice .Everything to extremely high standard. Unfortunately had to leave early due to illnessIf you want a great sized lodge with fantastic outdoor space and a hot tub, this is the place for you. Shops etc are only a five minute drive also which was really convenient. Loved going for a walk with our two dogs on the nature trail in the grounds too. We will be returning. From the start, the collection of the keys from the hotel ensured a wonderful welcome to the break. The hotel staff showed you around and how to use the remotes for the blinds and fire. Lovely spacious rooms with fantastic ensuite and main bathroom facilities - including coloured lights, jacuzzi bath and complimentary toiletries! The kitchen was high spec with a lovely American style fridge freezer with cold water and ice cubes on demand. Breakfast bar was a great start to the day. Bread, milk, eggs, biscuits, tea, coffee and sugar made up the welcome basket. The dining room was laid ready for your first meal! Two lounges, both with TVs, ensured plenty of space to sit and relax and then there was the conservatory which even in October was beautifully warm. The bedrooms had plenty of storage space and a TV for each of them. Outside there was a beautiful garden with a fantastic hot tub for relaxing after a day of sightseeing! The garden summer house was gorgeous with settee, cushions, fairy lights in the ceiling and a heater to allow you to sit out even when the weather was a little inclement. Plenty of great tourist attractions in this area; Raby Castle, Mount Grace Priory, Walworth Birds of Prey Centre, Durham Cathedral and Castle, Beamish, High Force Falls and Barnard Castle to name a few. Walworth Castle Hotel (where you pick the keys up) is really pretty and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Plenty of eating options at the Castle hotel; wonderful afternoon teas in the lounge (sandwiches, sausage rolls, scones and cakes - favourite cake was the miniature Battenburg!), breakfast, lunches and dinners in the Restaurant. We booked an evening meal and ate it in the Tower library which was a lovely experience with very high quality and beautifully presented food! They even showed us around their dungeons! All in all could not fault this Lodge since it was a lovely presented cottage and a fantastic restful break. The only downside - we had only booked one week!!"

"Wow, what a find! My partner spotted this one, and as we'd never been to this part of the country before, we decided to give it a go. Spacious, luxurious, and beautifully designed throughout, this was a truly superb holiday property. All the rooms are well-appointed and the kitchen is among the best-equipped we have seen. There were two adults and four children aged between 12-6 and we all had more than enough room inside and out. And a word about that as well - another reviewer here has stated that the pictures do not do justice to the cottage - this is true. You simply don't get the sense of space that exists inside from the pictures. And no pictures of the exterior? There is a really good sized, well-maintained lawn round three sides of the property and the view from the back patio door is breathtaking. A little bit of research using maps and Google Earth showed that you are looking right across at the North-eastern part of the Yorkshire Dales. Not only did we luxuriate around the house for a couple of days, but the property is ideally situated for days out. We were able to easily reach Barnard Castle, the Bowes Museum and Beamish Museum while we were there, and there is also a really pleasant walk through farmland around Staindrop (which is about 5 minutes away) and there are other trips planned for when we return in 2017! The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. The kids were genuinely sad to leave here, and you know what cynics they can be! Absolutely brilliant, cannot recommend highly enough."
