What our customers say about their holidays

    • Raymond - Verified booking

Our recent stay at the charming holiday property at 4 Ford Street was an absolute blast.

Let's kick things off with the accommodation. The bedrooms were like fluffy clouds of comfort, perfect for sinking into after a day of adventure. And speaking of adventure, the addition of a single sofa bed in the main bedroom was a stroke of genius – our four-legged companions claimed it as their own personal throne! Now, onto the amenities – prepare to be amazed! The kitchen was so well-equipped, it could have given a professional chef a run for their money. But the real highlight of our stay? The K9 Dog grooming service in Lanchester High Street. Our furry friends came back looking like they just stepped out of a doggy spa – talk about pampered pooches! Now, let's talk about parking – or should I say, parking gymnastics? The space outside was snugger than a pair of skinny jeans, but fear not! we mastered it in the end thanks to reversing cameras. Parking on visits to walking spots was far easier. On the best day out we parked up at Pow Hill Country Park Car Park for free and embarked on a magical walk around Derwent Reservoir. Picture this: two and a half miles of scenic bliss, with water views that would make even a mermaid jealous. We made our way to the visitor centre, where we indulged in some well-earned refreshments – because let's face it, walking is thirsty work! But the adventure didn't stop there. On our way back, we swung by the dog playing field just outside the visitor centre. Let's just say our furry companions had the time of their lives – and by the time we got back to the property, they were out like a light! In summary, our stay at 4 Ford Street was nothing short of epic. From the cosy accommodation to the doggy adventures, every moment was filled with laughter and joy. A huge thank you to the owners for providing such a paws-itively wonderful experience! Here's to making memories that will last a lifetime!

The cottage is one of the best in which we have stayed.

It was spotlessly clean; spacious, with a very high standard of furnishings, and kitchen equipment. Everything had been thought of; including a delicious 'welcome basket'. (Wine, coffee, cake, etc). The bathroom is lovely, with a super 'rain shower'. Each room is beautiful, with lovely paintings and craft work. The attractive small gardens were excellent 'suntraps' for coffee and cake. Lanchester is an attractive large village with many shops catering for everyday requirements. It also has an excellent bus service to Durham or Consett: to avoid the necessity of driving. The situation is ideal for Hadrian's wall, and moorland/river walks from Wolsingham. The disused railway provides easy walking or cycling in both directions. There are several pubs and restaurants, which we reluctantly did not visit due to 'social distancing': but made use of the Fish/( Vegetarian options) and Chip shop on one occasion. The location of the 'cottage' is very peaceful and definitely to be recommended. Helen (the owner) thoughtfully texted to inquire if we had any other requirements. Thank you to Helen and Peter.

This was a last minute booking due to Covid-19 as we had been looking for a Cottage/Caravan nearer the Durham coast.

My wife and I used this magnificent house as a base to catch up with my wife's County Durham family. The terraced house is very well decorated, and has beautiful furniture, and a well fitted kitchen. The backyard is inspirational in its choice of plants, and will mean us visiting our local garden centre to try and recreate the feel. My son was staying with us, and the three of us did not manage to overwhelm the Wifi. The A68, a few miles to the west makes it ideal for getting to Hadrian's Wall and into Northumberland. Be careful when driving through Consett though as you can get lost if you miss a sign on the ring road, and beware of the cyclists if you are taking the pleasant walk along the old railway line towards either Consett or Durham. Lanchester itself is a beautiful village, with a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, the neighbours are very friendly, and Sainsbury is 10 minutes away on the outskirts of Durham. A good place to return to. P.S. Should the GOT Poster really be Uhtred of Bebbanburg?.

We absolutely loved our stay in the flat above 27.

The flat is actually in the village of Stanhope, about 20 minutes drive from Bishop Auckland. The village is beautiful - the river walk especially - and there is a Co-Op, butchers, bakers etc as well as a really good chippy and Indian. There is a pub directly next door which looked good, and wasn't noisy from the flat. It was the perfect location for us. The flat seems to have been recently refurbished in order to cater for holiday rentals. It's a really high standard throughout. There were a few little things we would add; black out curtains in the bedroom rather than just blinds, wooden/plastic cooking utensils rather than metal ones (we tried really hard not to scratch the pans!). The king mattress could probably use a topper as well. A welcome pack would also be helpful to set expectations on cleaning, recycling, etc. But these are just little things and did not affect our enjoyment of the place. Would highly recommend this beautiful flat and village for anyone looking for a holiday.

A very well appointed, clean and comfortable apartment with a large well equipped kitchen and fabulous shower in the bathroom.

The apartment is situated on the Front Street, Stanhope, close to all amenities with an Indian Takeaway and Co-op store with ATM on one side and a pub on the other with the Everyday Cafe below. Parking is restricted to two hours but there is ample parking across the road in the square. As the apartment is on the main street there is road/traffic noise but this becomes un-noticeable after a short while. We stayed over the Christmas/New Year period and the owners kindly left a lovely welcome pack and had decorated the living room. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday, the only negative was two power cuts which plunged the whole village into total darkness, for at least up to an hour on one occasion. Thankfully we had a couple of torches to get us through until power was restored. The area is ideal for keen walkers to explore the Weardale Valley and places of interest are within 30/40 minutes drive of the apartment. We would thoroughly recommend this to anyone.
