What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sam - Verified booking

The very large double bed gave a good night's sleep.

We thought that the lounge seating was too large for the room, but this was a minor issue. All of the electrical equipment was of a high standard. The attractive décor was fresh and light. Looking out over bay, through a big picture window in the first floor lounge, probably gave the best view in Eyemouth! When we were there in August both the excellent fish and chip shop and the equally excellent Italian ice cream parlour both shut at about 7pm - so be warned! The Ship Inn is dog friendly and serves good food. The coastal walks, both north to St Abbs and south to Burnmouth, are visually stunning and easy underfoot and, if combined with the infrequent Borders bus service, can prevent the necessity of a return walk. Eyemouth's recycling facilities on the harbour front are limited and disorganised and a car trip to the recycling centre near the High School will probably be necessary. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our few days in 'General's Yard'. The high quality of fittings, proximity to the beach and local amenities such as an excellent bakery and a mini supermarket (Co-op) , a couple of pubs and the aforementioned coastal walks, make it an excellent base for a short stay.

The cottage is absolutely lovely, the location is perfect.

Jo is such a lovely lady and her communication is excellent. You want for nothing in this cottage Jo has absolutely everything covered. The welcome pack was lovely, our Buster certainly enjoyed his chews. The shops pubs etc are a stones throw away, it is absolutely perfect and we would love to return in the summer months. There’s nothing to complain about. We didn’t really know what to expect with this booking because the cost was so cheap especially for Christmas, we usually pay more than double for cottages at this time of year. As a property person I do think if Jo decided to do slight renovations, knock the single bedroom into the bathroom and make a twin room, move the bathroom into the kitchen with a walk in shower, move the kitchen into the dining area and make it a wow factor as you enter the cottage, put an obolong dining table down the centre ( seen all this in numerous cottages) and add a mini stairlift Jo could easily command around the £2000 a week rental for peak times. It would also generate extra interest from disabled people. All in all a wonderful cottage wonderful location a fantastic time was had. Highly recommended.

This is a gem of a cottage.

We have been to many holiday cottages over the years and this is definitely one of the best we have stayed in. The owner obviously takes pride in the cottage and this is reflected in the "above and beyond" way that the cottage is presented and equipped and the communication we received from the owner. Everything is provided and more. We had the wildest of winter weather while we were there but it was lovely to come back each day to the cosy, comfy cottage to relax. If you have dogs the cottage is particularly doggie friendly with extra towels, lead and dog bowls provided. The beach is literally a stone's throw away so your furry friends are well catered for. There is also a Co-op within walking distance which is an added bonus. This is our first time in the Scottish Borders and it will definitely not be our last. There is lots of exploring to be done and we have already booked to come back in May!!!

Already plotting to return for another week!

Comfortable, well-equipped, convenient and quiet even on a Saturday night, even though very central. I loved being a few yards from the beach and being able to hear the sea lapping all night. Very cosy living room and the big dining room table was excellent for working at (it wasn’t purely a holiday week this time). The owners left a generous welcome basket of local bread - delicious - red wine, a cake and a pint of milk in the fridge and they stopped by the second day to see that everything was ok. Parking immediately in front of the cottage. Extremely comfortable double beds made for good nights’ sleep. Electric shower was a bit feeble but they tend to be. Supply of dog blankets, bowl, sheets for furniture etc was inspired: we don’t have a dog but it gave us a handy coming-in-from-the-beach towel. Lovely area to explore, esp walking across to Coldingham Sands. Brilliant holiday place all round.
