"Hall Barn is perfect for large groups or families. The house is very well equipped, extremely clean and there were lots of lovely little touches (e.g milk in the fridge, jam, biscuits, tea, coffee and lots of toiletries). The bathrooms all look new and were well fitted out. The kitchen has everything you could need and is very spacious. The garden photos shows only 4 chairs but there is enough garden furniture for at least 12 people. The garden is well enclosed so the dogs could go out but the wall is low enough for a large dog to jump so if you have an escape artist keep an eye on it! There is no shop in the village but there is one at Longnor a few minutes drive away. There is a pub in the village but it is very strange ! It's like the land that time forgot and although the landlord was ok with us I can image he could be very abrupt with customers and customer service is not hid strong point. Some of the beer was undrinkable but he didn't take kindly to criticism"

" Extremely spacious house on 4 floors. Personal email from owner prior to stay. Arrived to clean, bright, airy house with lots of information on the area and a nice little tin of rocky road biscuits! Lots of essentials and very well equipped kitchen. Enclosed back yard for dogs. Walking distance to the centre of Buxton. Train line in front of the house so one night was a little noisy from this but we got used to this. . A bit of pot luck with parking as garage door had broken to the property but we were aware of this and we always managed to park in front of the house. Lots of dog friendly walks and cafes / pubs making this a perfect short break for a family of 4 and 2 dogs. Lots of places to eat and takeaways in the area for anyone not wanting to cook whilst away. 4.5 star holiday. Thank you "

"Overall the cottage was just about okay. There were simple things that let it down.Positive-The cottage was in a good location for walking the manifold way up to Wetton hill and Thors cave. It was on the main road though and very noisy. It had character and the wood burner was good for warming the house up.The kitchen area was small but had good equipment. You would struggle to fit 4 people around table.Negative- overall cleanliness was really bad and comment book had many comments about this. The cushions on the sofa had lots of stains on them.Bedding was clean though.Main bed was uncomfortable and springs and electric blanket could be felt.Small tv which scratched our DVD and then wouldn't play others. The towels were too small.I wouldn't stay there again I'm afraid."

"We had a great time at hall barn on our annual friends trip! Hall barn was brilliant in terms of location close to Buxton and Bakewell with lovely views! The beds were all extremely comfortable and the rooms a good size. Water pressure is a problem if someone’s in the shower at the same time but to be expected out in the countryside. Please be aware to take slippers with you as the nails in the floor did finish off a couple of pairs of socks! Great fun with the pool table and the house was very well stocked with different teas and many different herbs etc. Thank you to the housekeeper who called me prior to the trip and was extremely friendly and accommodating. A great trip overall!"

"The owners left us a cake, milk in the fridge and flowers for arrival which was a nice touch. If you’ve brought your dog, there is plenty of space to walk and play outside. However the decor/furniture is a bit tired and needs a redo. The main bedroom smelt a bit damp (or may be it hadn’t been aired in a while). The oven & oven trays needed a really good clean. Although overall the cottage was clean. Basically I think it was a 3* cottage not 4* as advertised. There are no extras: WiFi (not a big issue but the 4g signal is also fairly patchy), games, books, up to date dvds etc. The outside area was a bit run down and shabby too. We probably wouldn’t return."
