"We arrived expecting an initial amount of fuel to be available as stated in the confirmation from country cottages. However, this was not the case and we found ourselves having to travel several miles to obtain logs and kindling. The cottage was not the,”cleanest” that we have stayed in and in several areas, down the side of the fridge, behind a Welsh dresser, under the bed dirt and dust was present. There was also a terrible smell in the bathroom coming from the cupboard which houses the hot water tank which filled the room. It was impossible to get a decent nights sleep as the bed was so noisy, every move resulted in squeaking and creaking noises and the bed itself was small. I am only 6’ but found that my feet overhungbthe bed. It was almost impossible to get to the opposite side of the bed as access was very limited. We walked down to the,”beach” intending to walk with our dog but it was basically a pile of rocks - unwalkable and signs were present stating that water flowning from a small waterfall was contaminated and should be avoided. The cottage star rating is not reflected by the condition of the property. We have stayed in many cottages with a four star rating - all of which provided better accommodation and conditions - disappointing. My overall view is that the cottage rating should be reviewed. Having spent over £1000 to rent the property I expected better."

"We had an amazing Christmas holiday at George's Cottage. It is a beautiful cottage, in an amazing location, and the owners have gone to a huge amount of effort to provide everything you could possibly need, and much more besides! There were pretty Christmas wreaths on the gate and the door, and a stunning real Christmas tree complete with decorations, lights and crackers for us - as well as a bottle of Moet champagne and some milk in the fridge - we couldn't have asked for a lovelier welcome! The beds were really comfortable, as were the sofas downstairs, and everything worked really well in the kitchen and bathroom. The weather was cold wet and windy, but we kept really cosy in the cottage, and there was plenty of fuel left for us to use in the wood-burner, as well as the storage heaters which certainly kept us toasty! Our two dogs were thrilled with all the brilliant walks right on the doorstep, and the safe enclosed garden was a real bonus to let them out safely last thing at night. We couldn't fault the cottage, we had a really lovely time and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a countryside getaway - we will certainly be returning! Thank you for thinking of so many things to make our stay such a good one!"

"It's been a few weeks since we spent our Easter holiday at Deepwell Barn, and I've been meaning to find the time to write a few words about our experience. The cottage was a great base to explore the area. We live in Hull, so Devon and Cornwall are quite a long drive away. We easily visited places of interest local to the cottage and farther afield. For all intents and purposes the cottage is a new build within an existing barn structure, which is great. Everything being like a new home, but with the charm of an old building. That said the barn has been converted to a very high standard, and being from a construction background, I spent a lot of time admiring the quality of the joinery. The cottage had everything we could possibly need, and the welcome pack left by the owners was a very nice touch.Whilst the cottage is in a very rural landscape, within ten minutes you're in the centre of Bideford with all the shops and facilities you could possibly need. All in all we had a great time, and we would highly recommend a holiday there."

"There was no wi-fi, as advertised, until the last couple of days. The new managers admit they intend to refurbish the development, but our view is that they should have done it before the season started. The manager responded immediately to suggestions re the hardness of the mattress, and some cleaning. However, the carpet and rug were bald in places. The rug is fit for the bin. The kitchen units needed a more thorough cleaning, but were shabby and in need of replacement. The pine toothbrush holder (holes in wood type) in the bathroom.... we'll leave to your imagination. We didn't use it. The pine towel rail was in a similar state. Hence, the overall initial impression was not good. However, we did stay the week. It had good views over the fields, and was a very quiet location. We did not use the pool (we were too busy exploring the coast), or the restaurant. There is a good range of dvd's to borrow for free, and a games room. We would not stay again, simply because we like to move to new areas to explore."

"This was a lovely property, perfect for an out of season escape. Right on the Tarka trail you had unlimited walking and cycling right on your doorstep. It is large and detached and perfect for two people who want peace and quiet, with a bit of home comfort. I appreciated the hairdryer as I forgot my own. It’s a short walk to Bideford along the trail and the beautiful beach at Westward Ho! just 15 minutes drive. My only niggle was that the kitchen equipment was sparse and poor quality as is often the case with rental properties. If you want a fire the night you arrive bring your own kindling as they only provided three chunky logs and a couple of fire lighters which wasn’t enough to get the fire going. Also if you have fire gauntlets I’d bring them as I really missed mine! All in all a super break, with amazing weather in October."
