What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kane - Verified booking

Apologies for lateness in leaving this feedback - has been a busy couple of weeks since returning to the toddler.

First and foremost we wanted to thank you for our stay at The Hen House which we thoroughly enjoyed even if only for 2 nights. We were impressed by the quality of the design of The Hen House, the interior, electronics and setup with manual and the amazing wood fired hot tub! All of this added to a really enjoyable getaway which we have already recommended to others and will continue to do so. We'd very much like to book another stay at The Hen House in the near future! As the stay was pretty much all positive, there isn't that much to say around negatives or improvements but I will mention a few things for feedback: As we don't drink alcohol the gift bottle of wine was sort of wasted on us as a gift. We've stayed at similar small getaways and, on top of alcohol, a local delicacy - smoked fish, eggs or something of the sort is usually given as a welcome. This would have been a super touch! Permaculture Design could be applied to the courtyard to make it more lush and interactive and could easily house hens within the courtyard area. Organic grow spaces could be made amongst the large gravel area. Trees in courtyard need a good pruning. The Smeg coffee machine was great to use.  Bringing this into focus a bit more with extra brew making kit and organic milk would be fantastic. Mattress could be firmer to provide extra support and possibly less pillows. It's difficult to get to sleep first few nights when staying away somewhere if the mattress is too soft and sinks. Overall this is a 5 star piece of well crafted and finished accommodation. It's nicely thought out and has a really homely feel to it. Great travelling distance to Inverness and rest highlands. Highly recommend!

What a fantastic cottage this is and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

It was like a wee fairytale cottage, lovely and cozy, spotlessly clean and had everything you would need for your visit. I absolutely loved the bed with the amazing wood panel on the headboard and the amazing gates/doors at the bottom. The large mirror looked beautiful too. The only one thing I did not like so much were the seats. I did not find them very comfortable. The appliances were amazing and they have thought of everything you might need. The garden was lovely with 2 beautiful pagodas. One with seats and a table and one with an amazing hot tub. It is wood fired and the first time we used it my husband tried to cook me !! Next time he got the hang of it better :-) Even the fencing around this cottage was beautiful Chinese / Japanese style. As you can guess this was right up my street and I loved every minute of being there. We had lovely walks around the estate as well so it was a very relaxing stay. Thank you xx

      Simply outstanding.

From the safe car parking area next to your cottage, to the enclosed large communal garden to the idyllic location of the cottages - this has it is all. The cottage itself (Birch) was very clean, comfortable and well stocked with everything you’d need. The smart tv allows Netflix and Prime log ons, which you can then view from the comfortable couch after a day’s walking in the hills. Beds are superb and are clearly very expensive and luxurious leading to a superb night’s sleep. The owners Adam and Leanne are on hand should you need any advice or guidance on the area or your cottage. The whole set up and organisation when you’re there is one of a “safe space” and very comfortable. The location allows travel and visits to lots in the Cairngorms and is a super base. Thoroughly recommended.

An absolute joy staying 30th Jun for 7 nights.

Ample room for 2 people.Spotlessly clean and all you need for your break. So peaceful and surrounded by nature which suits us fine. First day for example had a visit in front of us at lochside of a kingfisher sitting waiting for a fish which was caught and returned to its perch plus many sightings including pair of black throated divers. Plenty walks around the grounds and places of interest easy driving with breathtaking scenery. Hotel serves fab scones and coffee/tea and delicious dinner ( best to book ahead for dinner). Janetta is on hand for any problems or advice .Although we didnt require any assistance always good to know she was there for us. So thank you for your service and giving us the most relaxing break in the Boathouse Dave & Chris

We made the most of our stay and the cottage was well stocked on arrival.

Living room area, sofa, and kitchen are looking tired but still serviceable so didn't really bother us but felt disappointing for the price. Generally the cottage needs a good clean and lick of paint especially the living area. The bathroom upstairs and bedroom down stairs had doors which didn't open fully which made access difficult for my elderly father. Our bedding, towels and bathroom were clean and comfortable but towels could be larger. The people in other cottages, the permanent residence were friendly and welcoming and the village is a good central point to explore. Overall its a good base for exploring Scotland and although cottage was a little disappointing we still enjoyed our stay.
