"Bakers Cottage is well presented both inside and out, however, there were a number of factors that let it down for us.The cottage was pretty chilly when we arrived so we decided to turn up the thermostat. Problem being, we couldn’t find it anywhere. Consulted the info pack, found the manual but no indication of where the thermostat was! Contacted the owner but didn’t receive a reply until around 2 hours later (reason was explained and is understandable). The thermostat was hidden behind the microwave! I don’t know why it couldn’t be placed somewhere more visible or why the info folder doesn’t state where it is!As for cleanliness, there was a mass of toast crumbs under the toaster and the large mirror in the main bedroom was really dirty. Not huge problems but it does hint at a lack of attention to detail. In terms of equipment, the kitchen tongs didn’t grip properly and the oven glove was stained and the outer fabric worn/burnt away. Again, not major issues but something that could be improved on.The main problem for us was the very early morning heavy traffic noise. The cottage is on a main route through the village and farm and haulage traffic hurtles through from 5am each day. The noise from the traffic and the rattling of the single glazed window in the main bedroom made it impossible for us to sleep much past 5am. For anyone wanting to start their day at that sort of time whilst on holiday, it might not be an issue. However, if you’d like be woken gently at a more acceptable hour, Bakers Cottage might not be for you! Having the front of the cottage double glazed like the back is, would no doubt be a huge help with this."

" This was our second visit and the welcome we recieved was on both visits fantastic. We were made to feel at home straight away by the owners. The house was for us ideal lovely warm and cosy when we stayed in the Spring and so attractive in Summer. The location is perfect for walking or driving the many scenic routes on the doorstep. Plenty of places to eat from country pubs to restaurants and if the weather is bad several places of interest nearby to visit. The owners were great always willing to help but not intrusive. The best part of the stay for my wife was when Doreen during a busy lambing period somehow found the time to let her bottle feed a lamb, many thanks Doreen you made her day.Though we have already been twice we will hopefuly be returning this year. "Baker's Cottage is, on the whole, a comfortable, well presented, cosy, property, and it was very pleasant sitting on the patio at the end of the day enjoying the contents of the much appreciated welcome pack. However much as we liked the accommodation, we did find the bathroom to be a little 'bijou' - I am not a fan of corner baths! The cottage is situated on one of the main roads through Middleton, so if you are a light sleeper you might find traffic noise an issue. But that said we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There are a couple of pubs in the town, as well as cafes, a butchers, a good fish and chip shop and the well-stocked Co-op is open until about 10.00 p.m. We enjoyed some excellent walking direct from the door, and there are plenty of interesting places to visit just a short drive from the cottage."

"This was a soul refreshing and effectively secluded spot. Peaceful and beautiful. The weather was straight from the med, but it wouldn't have made a difference. There is a well stocked DVD option for television entertainment and the added bonus of the conservatory provides that extra space and opportunity for a retreat to undertake another activity of family choice. Healthy countryside fresh air opportunity to explore and, for us time to be sharing special time with family living locally.A super large kitchen with plenty of room for use, and no request to the owners to much, who we sensed would have gone out of their way to help if necessary.Freshly made bread on arrival!Thank you for such a relaxing few days."

" We took our three kids to this cottage for half-term. It was so cosy and had great accommodation. We walked up and down the Tees Valley way and railway, doing most of the Cleveland Way between Cauldron Snout and Barnard Castle. It was great to walk from the door. High and Low Force are great as is the Bowes Museum with its silver mechanical swan. The local pubs (Rose in in Mickleton and Rose and Crown in Romaldkirk) were wonderful. What a wonderful off the track spot. The hosts are very kind. We loved how quiet it was. We waited for clear nights for the amazing stars which was our only disappointment. "
