Devonair is a beautiful townhouse situated in a lovely cul-de-sac with space for a car right outside which is a bonus.
The location is really nice as far enough away from Westward Ho to avoid crowds but close enough to walk in to the seafront in around 20 mins all on the flat. We were pleasantly surprised by the cream tea, tea and coffee supplied. Its upside down living with a spacious open lounge and kitchen upstairs. The balcony is really lovely to sit out on and we enjoyed lots of time sitting out there. However there isn't much of a view and you are directly opposite other townhouses. The downside being that if a loud party are enjoying time on their balcony at the same time it maybe difficult to relax. The place was really clean, comfortable and modern in its furnishings. Included is a few games and books to keep you entertained if weather isn't the best. There is a lovely private garden to the rear which we were also able to enjoy until one day when a large group arrived and blasted music whilst enjoying the hot tub next door! Its good though if you have a dog and includes a few little bits in a box for them. The kitchen was well equipped with good quality crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc for cooking your own meals but personally just could have done with some basic supplies. Empty Salt and pepper mills were in the cupboard and there was no oil for cooking. Also the guest book was completed by previous guests stating they had broken the can opener which wasn't replaced so we had to buy one. The only heating was underfloor and this was fairly easy to control however when we wanted to change the temperature it did take quite a while to cool down or heat up. The towel rail in the bathroom never heated up so when we came out of the shower it was cold and we couldn't dry the towels so could have done with the heated towel rail or a little fan heater for instant heat when needed. Also for the price would have been nice if shower gels etc were supplied. We only used the double bedroom which had good storage. The bed was comfy with nice quality linen and it was great having a TV in there too. It has a nice size twin room too although we did notice a damp smell in that en suite. We did try to attempt the short cut to the beach through the estate via the golf course and burrows but it was very boggy so we gave up. I imagine it would be nice to walk across when its dry in the summer. Westward Ho is a lovely small seaside town with the most amazing large beach and a handful of restaurants and pubs. We also find it an excellent base for visiting lots of beaches within 30 to 40 minutes drive in Devon and Cornwall. Both Barnstaple and Bideford are close by for shopping and other dining out options. This place is such a great home to stay in and feels more upmarket than some of the other places so we would happily return and despite minor issues which really are just personal preferences we would recommended it to others. Book and you won't be disappointed with your stay. Just one final point take a look in the information booklet which day the window cleaner is due as they took us by surprise early one morning!

This is the second time we have stayed here so we knew what to expect.
This is a lovely, comfortable cottage, ideal for a couple with up to 1 child or a couple of dogs. A previous privacy issue in the bathroom has been addressed which is good (the other side of the bathroom window opens onto a higher level patio of adjacent houses and lacked privacy. A blind has now been fitted). The bathroom would benefit from shelves for toiletries as there is only the window sill for this. Also, the approach to the front door was completely overgrown with weeds which is not inviting but not really a problem. Generally very well equipped although I guess the property has suffered from previous guests taking things like tea spoons and drinking flutes away - what can you do? The front door and window is off a side path (not actually on Irsha Street which is great if you have nervous dogs as they are not bothered by people constantly walking by and when you leave the property, you do not immediately bump into other people with their dogs, if that is ever an issue. Lovely comfortable bed which gets the sun first thing in the morning. Downstairs bathroom is slightly inconvenient but that is the nature of the cottage and it does mean that it is a good size. Would definitely return.

The cottage was disappointing - immediately on arrival and throughout our entire 3 nights it smelt damp despite opening windows to try to get fresh air in and dry it out.
There should be a warning for people with chest complaints. The shower is tiny and ineffective - could not get a decent quality water output, the controls were broken and potentially dangerous. The shower tray was blocked and took a long while to drain. Kitchen very tiny and poor but was as described. Photos were somewhat misleading, we struggled to work out where the photographer had been standing (!) and had clearly been photoshopped as the lounge in reality was very dark. Multiple spiders in the bedroom (possibly a nest) that hadnât been hoovered. King sized bed very wobbly when you turned around over in bed. Had we stayed for a week we would have contacted you to complain and request to be moved. Also shower is NOT walk in! Location was good and close to amenities, but basically the cottage needs refreshing thoroughly. Would also suggest no need for a freezer in the lounge - it buzzed all night, why would anyone do this? Similarly, no need for an extra table under the stairs with a random microwave on it! Compared to other cottages we have stayed at, this was very poor and basic. It explains why this cottage was still available to book 3 weeks before we arrivedâ¦

As you know itâs a lovely location .
The cottage needs someone to have a look around and think what they would like . No welcome instructions , where to put rubbish, shower operation, etc ,or a feedback book for guests to write in . This is the first time we havenât had this . Random freezer and table in front room but no where to hang coats. Shower is terrible impossible to get wet and took ages to work out which way dials were pointing . Simple dot would do! We hit a cold spell so the shower being so poor was really disappointing . The front room is impossible to heat with the tiny heater so our clothes also stayed wet . Kitchen cupboards too high to reach no storage space for food . I could go on sorry â¦sink splashes water everywhere and the cutlery is in a drawer with a grubby liner in it Outside is a mess and the door lock gets stuck . You have a gem here shame itâs not cared for. The bed was really lovely and we did have a great time in Appledore . .

The cottage is in a great situation with everything within walking distance.
The Beaver pub is less than 5 mins walk away and has a lovely view over the estuary. Sadly the weather was pretty awful when we were there so the cottage was very dark and gloomy. The walkway to the property was covered in weeds and the path was a walkway to other houses. Some of the furnishing looked tired and worn. The curtains in the sitting area and the main bedroom were coming off the curtain rails. The stairs leading to the bedrooms are very steep and anyone with mobility problems would find them hard going. The bathroom with a good working shower and loo is downstairs beyond the kitchen. Hooks on the doors for towels would be a good idea. The kitchen was well equipped and the fridge was working but the light in the fridge is broken. There was no phone signal in the cottage if you are with Tesco provider but the wifi works well so internet works well.
