      This was a series of unfortunate events.

      The advert said on street parking but forgot to mention you could only park for one hour. We were expecting to receive a permit, but ended up paying for parking instead. We were meant to be staying in the beautiful but dirty and freezing apartment upstairs, but as we could not get the heating to work, we were offered the apartment below, not as glamorous but warmer, but this meant we did not have a washer dryer or "central heating" or a freezer. On entry the foyer light was not working which meant we had to use a torch to collect our keys and find the door lock. Whilst the alternative apartment was warmer, the storage heaters were not set so we're barely warm, they had been painted over so you couldn't see the dials to set them and it took numerous YouTube videos and two days to get them hot. There was no instructions for anything in the apartment. There was no WiFi password. We made many attempts to find the communal green area but to no avail. After a very uncomfortable first night's sleep I lifted the mattress to discover there were only about half as many slats as there should be and they were all bunched together and I had to rearrange them. There was no battery in the clock. The bathroom bin lid was broken and the bathroom sink plug did not work. Every time we left or entered the apartment we had to fight with the lock to turn the key, fight to get the door open and slam it to shut it because it was stuck. The light switch outside our apartment for the staircase was broken. And later in the week when new guests arrived upstairs and flushed the toilet it sounded like an electric toilet and would grind and groan for about a minute loud enough to wake you up.I love Sykes and have used them on many an occasion over the last 5 years but I was so disappointed with this apartment, I cannot recommend it at all.

      The apartment was is a good location close to all amesites.

      However, the heating was not on or working when we arrived, & we could not find any main switch to turn it on, We contacted Sykes & they said they would send out Maintenance Man the next day. There was NO House information in the apartment or House Keeper contact No ! The next day we found a timer switch hidden in a top kitchen cupboard which turned out to be the main heating control. ! The electric tripped & we were left with no lighting or cooking facilities at, 6pm We again contacted sykes to report, the mains fuse box was locked away in cupboard & it took several hours to get this sorted to locate key code to unlock door. ! The Bath Tub was 'HALF SIZE' & This was not stated in listing ! This was an issue & Would not have placed booking had we known this..!. There was a lack of kitchen utensils + not enough glasses no tea towels etc I am awaiting financial compensation/Partial refund, for all the issues experienced . John

      We had asked Sykes before we booked why there was no reviews , the reply was it is a new listing fully refurbished apartment.

      It smelt musty, kitchen dirty, cobwebs and dust everywhere, debris under the couch cushions and floor. The wooden toilet seat cracked and held together with a rusty bracket. No heating in the bedroom or bathroom. We had no choice but to leave. Didn’t get anywhere with Sykes until I found the owner on Airbnb and emailed myself .Terrible experience dealing with Sykes , you book through them but the contract is with the owner. To be fair to the owner he did request Sykes to do what they needed to do to resolve the issue, he sent me the email that he had sent to Sykes. I think Sykes were surprised I had been able to contact the owner and got the email he had sent them , they told me there will be no refund until that point. Got partial refund , what terrible experience dealing with Sykes and the Apartment is still available on there site. Problems do happen it is how they are dealt with.

      Lovely apartment.

      We felt our expectations were exceeded when we entered the apartment. Although the description was accurate it did not convey the spaciousness of the whole apartment. Large lounge with fantastic views. Large bathroom and two good sized bedrooms. Dining area a little small but did not in any way detract from the experience. Spiral staircase leading to the apartment is as described and easy enough to negotiate. Met the owner and some other people and everyone was so friendly. Very clean and comfortable. Spacious, fantastic views and parking in pretty much the centre of Kirkby. What more could you want. Extremely likely that we will go back.

      On arrival we were welcomed by the landlady with half a dozen free range eggs so that was a good start to the holiday.

      Although she and her husband lived under the apartment they left us to our own devices but I am sure were there if we needed them. The apartment was clean and much larger than I was expecting and the views from the bedrooms and living room, outstanding. We were about 30miles SE of Windemere and most of the drive was dual carriageway so very easy to get to. Pubs and restaurants in town were many and welcoming and within easy walk from the apartment. I would recommend this apartment to anyone visiting the Lakes and N.Yorkshire Dales as a great base, comfortable, clean and very much like home away from home
