What our customers say about their holidays

The apartment is exactly as the photos show.

It is on the third floor at the back of the building away from road noise and looking out onto the rock face, trees & foliage. The sun does shine this side of the building and we were envious of the apartments next door, both sides, as they had a small balcony with table & chairs & we would have loved to be able to open the doors & get outside as our apartment was very hot - 25C with both sash windows open all night - our dogs felt the heat as did we. When we arrived we expected to just turn the key and open the door as it is on an internal corridor. However we couldn't get in and luckily the cleaners were still in the corridor so they helped. Even so it took them a few minutes to open the door and they told us that they have problems too. Having watched the lady lift the handle / lower the handle before putting the key in and turning, I realised that the lock was not a simple lock, but the same as our double glazed front door. The door itself was not a simple hotel room type door. It is a very heavy fire door so you have to give it a good shove to open. The oven is a combination microwave oven with instructions. We did not find instructions for the induction hob (2 places). We have never used one before as we have a gas hob. All we got was a Lo sign until eventually my husband put a saucepan on the hob and magically it went on. The tv is a smart TV. I sent a message to the owner as we couldn't get normal tv channels - we have Sky tv at home and Netflix, but very rarely use the apps other than catch up. We eventually got used to it, but not a fan. There are lots of plates & bowls ( a dinner service of them), but fewer glasses and we would have liked much larger cups or mugs. The settee, which is of good quality material, is saggy / uncomfortable, but it is large enough for 2 to sit on. A broom and dustpan & brush is provided together with a dish-cloth, scourer sponge, tea-towel and washing up liquid. There is a nice big cupboard in the bedroom with shelving, where you can hang clothes, store bags and suitcases. I would have liked a full length mirror hung on the back of this cupboard door & a light weight battery operated sweeper (£69) to suck up bits from the hard floors daily. They also do not appear to recycle rubbish as everything goes in a large bin in the apartment. There were many people staying on & off, a large car park with an electric charger, children's play area and BBQ. There is a walk for dogs opposite the Cupola restaurant on the other side of the road. It is quite steep, but you can let the dogs off the lead. There is a lady receptionist in the lounge area from Thursday to Monday. The Cupola restaurant next door is also very nice. It is open every day until 8pm (pizzas only in the evening) and on the week end a fuller menu. We visited Eyam, plague village, up the road, Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne, Matlock Bath and Castleton - we have already been to Chatsworth House, which is very close. There are apartments for sale & if the journey was much shorter I would be tempted to buy because this is a quality development. We really enjoyed our stay.

      Perfect little weekend break.

We will definitely be back. Mattress extremely comfortable, furnishings tasteful and atmosphere cosy. Warm and inviting aesthetic. Generally clean but it might pay to run the hoover under the sofa more regularly, our dogs were very curious about what was under there and having looked, I wished I hadn’t. Took the shine off a bit. The sofa might also benefit from a quick hoover. Apart from that, No. 46 is conveniently placed next to the elevator at the back of the building which made toilet trips with dogs very efficient! It’s nice to see the owner has actioned some of the suggestions made by previous reviewers (coasters provided and blinds sorted). My advice to guests with long locks is bring a hair dryer. I mistakenly left mine at home and couldn’t find one in the apartment. I improvised and used the one in the boot room meant for dogs (worked a treat!) but not the height of luxury. The building is fairly new and it shows, everything is still scuff-free and tidy. My only hope is that as the years go on, the quality is maintained. We do plan to come back and would hate to see it go downhill, specially as apartments are for sale and management by a variety of owners could lead to haphazard quality. Overall really pleased with the experience and grateful to have found somewhere dog-friendly that isn’t the pits.

      We really enjoyed our stay.

The Apartment complex is situated in a lovely village with lots of walks and a nice pub and little Fish and Chip Shop - chips were amazing, unfortunately there was no firepit in the communal area as advertised, but there is a nice seated area where we enjoyed a bottle of wine. The Apartment itself was lovely and spacious, although I did struggle with the height of the top cupboards and getting things out. On leaving we put the keys back into the Key safe and left the complex, unfortunately a member of staff took the key and had not advised leading to a phone call advising we had not returned the keys. We returned as was 30 mins away luckily - to then receive a text message to say keys found, but had already arrived and had this explained by the lovely receptionist. The tone of the call was not pleasant and the gentleman was quite patronising and this has put us off staying within this particular Apartment again, however would return to the complex just in another Apartment. Would really recommend the Apartment block and area though.

      Our second stay this year!

We love the location of the apartment, there is so much to do within an easy distance with nice walks directly from the property. In addition to The Cupola serving evening meals on Fridays and Saturdays, they are now open every evening cooking pizzas to either eat in, or take away – we can highly recommend! Our only slight criticism since our previous stay is the number of breakages that have taken place – the apartment is down to one wine glass (disaster!) We understand that breakages happen, but the owner really needs to make some replacements. On arrival, we spent time washing all the crockery as the mugs were stained and plates had been put away unwashed. All crockery could do with being taken away for a deep clean. The lounge blind has come down and is being stored in the cupboard in the bedroom. Sitting on the settee in the evenings, directly under a window, was quite chilly. The owner just needs to address these few issues, and the apartment will be back to a 5 Star + rating in our eyes!

      The 'Magic' of photography.

We did expect the apartment to be a bit larger and with just one sofa very hard for 2 people to get in comfortable/relaxing position to watch TV. Eating table also very small but understand size of apartment dictates maximum use of limited space. Would have been nice to have some info on local sights/walks etc in apartment or reception. Based on places we have previously stayed at we would place apartment cost at higher end,and that is primarily down to size. No complaints about cleanliness etc, and location is excellent.
