What our customers say about their holidays

    • Confirmed Guest - Verified booking

There were many positives about staying in Bruce apartment. It was clean and comfortable (especially the bed). The welcome pack containing home made bread, eggs, scones, homemade jam and other goodies was great. The facilities were good although a few more dishes in the kitchen would be useful, eg teapot, cafetiere and a larger number of items of cutlery/crockery so that it wasn't necessary to put on a half filled dishwasher after every meal so that there was enough cutlery/crockery for next meal. There had been storms which blew down trees the weekend before we arrived causing damage and there was no internet. As I had planned to work from "home" one of the days the estate manager kindly provided access to another property with internet access, which was much appreciated. However, not having internet access generally was a limitation, particularly for the younger members of the group. The other issue that became obvious over time was that a number of the radiators were not heating up so the apartment wasn't cosy, and as our stay fell over Christmas period there were limited options for resolving this. We did like the apartment and would still consider a propert at Penninghame but our stay would have been more comfortable had the heating been working adequately and internet had been working.

We loved the apartment: beautiful, elegant, and comfortable, showing its origins as a grand house, and wonderfully spacious. (We had cupboard envy!) It's self-contained, and the boot-room lobby in the entrance downstairs meant we could leave all our muddy and sandy things well out of the way. David had obviously put considerable thought into everything one might need, for everyday living and for recreation. (The family bookshelf offered a snapshot of classics for every age, including a duplicate set of 'Tin-Tin'.) The kitchen was excellent, and well-equipped, though I was glad to have a tall companion, to extract large, heavy, crockery, out of high shelves. Perhaps adding few smaller mugs would be helpful? A large and useful fridge was great for self-catering. All spotless, making me worry a little about spoiling the carpet, under the dining-table; again, perhaps a large rug there might avert risk? Views, gardens, and little balcony were lovely, and the walk to the sea a delight. It was a treat to be able to walk in the whole lower garden, with its old plantings, and visits from wild life. Thank you!

An excellent location and clean apartment with plenty of space for up to four people.

The appliances were good and the internet signal was strong. The parking is good even for a large car or SUV. Easy to walk into town where there are some really nice restaurants and there is usually some event going on in Moffat. On the downside we arrived to find a sink with a plug jammed and a light not working which we reported to Sykes since there was no other contact listed. We were assured the owner would fix these but heard nothing from them. The heating had a message that it was to be left set at a certain temperature and not adjusted. In fact the thermostats were at different temperatures and the place remained cold all week. The stairwell is uninviting and the maintenance on this part of the building is very poor. However, if you want somewhere convenient to explore southern Scotland then give this place a chance and hopefully maintenance and communication issues will be addressed.

Very pleasant cottage in a lovely village, fantastic views of Solway Firth and a few meters from the village pub. The accommodation is very comfortable and the hosts are welcoming and helpful and we are certainly intending to return in the near future. The location offers excellent shoreline walking and is close to a number of towns for exploring museums, local interest and eateries. There are several nature reserves close by which are interesting for their variety of landscapes, wildlife and scenery and some provide refreshment facilities which are very welcome on a chill day. The location is not too busy regarding traffic and one frequently encounters the brown roadside signs indicating places of interest which are always worth investigating. We loved the variety of agricultural landscapes, hill views, coastlines and woodlands and are very pleased to have stayed at Little Egret.

Excellent place to stay in a lovely little village with pub/restaurant just along the road. The accommodation was very comfortable, fully equipped, tastefully decorated and very dog friendly. The gardens were excellent for my dogs as they were fully enclosed so safe. We enjoyed sitting in the beachfront garden watching the birds and sea. The back garden was a little suntrap and very peaceful listening to all the little birds. We enjoyed walking along the beach in both directions. There are lots of different beach and woodland walks in the local area which the dogs and I thoroughly enjoyed. The pub/restaurant was an added bonus and would recommend a visit and the food was amazing. Also recommend visiting Aisla's art studio which is next door! Her art work is hung all over the accommodation. I would definitely recommend a stay at the Little Egret and hope to go back soon.
