It provides a superb base from which to explore South West Scotland including the Solway Coast with outstanding sandy beaches and cliff top walks within a 20 minute drive. Water sports are available on the Solway and also on nearby Loch Ken at the Galloway Activity Centre. Fishing is available locally, whether it be Game, Course or Sea fishing. The National Trust for Scotland's Threave Estate is on the edge of the town where the House and surrounding gardens offer an oasis of tranquillity. The Estate offers the chance to see Ospreys at work in the summer months. A visit to Threave Castle is a must, with a trip across the river by boat to reach the castle. For the naturalist the Red Kite Trail is close to the town and slightly further afield are the nationally important wildfowl reserves of Mersehead and Caerlaverock.

As the apartment is all on one level (except for a small step up to the front door and a small step down into the kitchen), it is suitable for those with limited mobility. However, it is not suitable for someone who is wheelchair dependant.

Great place to stay and this wasn't my first time. Lovely and clean, spacious, warm and great location.

The apartment was spacious and well decorated. The 2 bedrooms were small with 2 single beds in each. The living room/ dining area was large and comfortable. There was a good sized TV, although the channels were limited and there was no DVD player. The kitchen was well equipped and there was a utility room off it, which had a fridge, washing machine and sink. The bathroom was large with both a bath and walk-in shower, which I appreciated, having slight mobility problems. The heating was easy to use and efficient.
