"That being said…. wow! This small site has just shot straight to the top of the list for a revisit. ***Before we begin –As at March 2018, do not use Google Maps to assess the property – it has been extensively renovated and this isn’t reflected in the satellite image***Let’s start with accessibility. Head south to Winchester on the A34, turn left, 20 minutes of countryside and you’re there. It doesn’t really get a lot simpler than that. As for the location; blimey, it’s gorgeous! Think atypical country village with pretty little church and cracking county pub. No streetlights, no pavements, hardly any people and, most importantly, no noise! The peace and quiet is almost deafening, punctuated infrequently by a passing Landrover or “squark” of local wildlife. What about the accommodation? Well, it’s been done well. Really well! When you come on these cottage holidays, you have to, at times, expect a level of “rustic charm”. Not here, while the outside is pure countryside, the inside is akin to a new build show home. Everything you want, everything you need, is right here already. The living area is comfortable; small but without being cramped. The bedroom is huge, and the bed is incredible… and bigger than my car! The bathroom is SO well finished and so impressive, that my wife is already starting to look at gutting our bathroom at home. All in all, this little cabin has been finished to an incredible standard and hasn’t missed a thing! Now, the most important part of the review – the Springer Spaniel perspective. Many places say “dog friendly”, by which they mean they’ll allow dogs. This place is different; they WELCOME dogs. You arrive to dog bowls and poo bags ready and waiting after the drive. The owner has acknowledged that most Spaniels can’t read and don’t care much for the “stay off the sofa” rules. The best owners in the world will turn their back occasionally, so they’ve got you covered and have provided throws to protect the furniture…just in case. The little garden area is secure enough, with a (at its lowest) waist high fence. Beyond the digs, the very pretty, disused railway is a 10 minute walk from the cabin (you’ll need a short lead as this is accessed by a fairly narrow road). The local pub accepts dogs and we all had a cracking meal in the bar one evening. Finally, the owner – Gill was friendly, warm and welcoming. You can see the love that’s been poured into this location everywhere you look. The walled garden was beautiful, and that’s in March. By the middle of summer, it’ll be exquisite. While you only see Gill very briefly here and there, she certainly adds a finishing touch to a brilliant place! What’s the conclusion then? Should I visit this place? Were you not reading what I wrote above? Of course you should! Take a really comfy hotel suite… plonk it in the Hampshire countryside…. Add your dogs… and you’ve got Garden Cottage."

"I stayed at S4019 with my partner, my parents and our dog. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at S4019. The location is perfect for Salisbury (10 minute drive from the nearest park and ride) and a 10 minute drive from stone henge. It is in a small village with a farm shop selling pies, cakes and vegetables and a pub called the Boot Inn that had a wide selection of lunches and evening meals. However, the shop was shut on Monday, our day of arrival. The cottage itself is gorgeous, just as I would imagine a cottage to be. The front garden is perfectly cared for. However, we took a miniature dog with us and he could have got out of the garden between the trees or through the gate. Not a problem as we had taken his extender lead with us so kept him on that. The family have thought of everything! They had a doggy cupboard with a selection of items for dogs - and had even provided the details of the nearest vets. Everything you could possibly need and more was provided. Child gate, hand washes with every sink, tissues, drinking straws, spare serviettes and plentiful cutlery are just a few of the items we were surprised to find. The family had also provided lots of information about the surrounding area, including tourists leaflets, local magazines and a list of the closest supermarkets with postcodes. The finishing touches were also perfect. The dinning table had already been laid and there were little teddy bears on every bed. This is our first cottage experience, and we felt the cottage was deserving of a four star rating rather than the three stars it had been given. It was a perfect place to stay and we would most definitely look to stay here again if we wanted a holiday in this area."

"The cottage was extremely well equipped with everything that one might require. All was clean & very comfortable. The elaborate planting of the garden areas was both a joy to the eye as well as ensuring privacy. The 4 bedrooms meant we had various relatives to stay for varying short periods who we would have been unable to see during such a fully planned fortnight. It was interesting to be able to see what life could be like in a such a "Chocolate Box Village" as Berwick St. James for the relatively small percentage of the UK population who could afford the (presumably very high) local property prices - many residents either had a Mercedes-Benz set of wheels parked kerbside or an immaculately clean & shiny large 4WD which seemed unlikely ever to leave the black-top."

"We found S4019 to be very well equipped for a lovely family stay. Great attention has been given to equipment needed. The kitchen is quite small and the downstairs rooms were smaller than expected. Bedrooms were a good size with comfortable beds. Bathroom with separate w.c. both good. The garden is a very pretty, typical cottage garden and contained for children. The off road parking is good. The village and road is very quiet. Pub within walking distance and excellent farm shop even closer. A warm welcome from the owner was given on arrival. We were a family of four adults, one child 5 years and one child 19 months and this property was more than adequate. It was an ideal base for touring Wiltshire."

"Very queit, peaceful and comfortable cottage with a lot of space. Extremely well equpped and spotless. The owners thought of everyting! Lost of space, loads of character, decorated with a lots of love. Perfect place as a starting point for visits to Stonehenge, Woodhenge, Avebury, Salisbury, and even London is just an hour and a half train ride away. Very friendly people in a very peaceful village. Great little village store with a lot of fantastic products. Very welcoming owners who make you feel at home. Going back next year. Loved it!"
