What our customers say about their holidays

    • Shaun - Verified booking

What a wonderful place which far exceeded my expectations.

A very warm welcome from both Jane & John who walked me through the house to run me through the operation of the heating, shower, cooking appliances etc and then left us alone to enjoy the peaceful break that we were looking, with the reassurance that they were just next door, or on the end of a phone, had anything untoward happened. I have hired maybe 15-20 cottages over the years and this has got to be one of the best, if not the best. We were holiday sitting my brother's dog and can truly say that the enclosed garden truly was as advertised and the adjacent field where he could run to his heart's content was superb - my own late dog would have loved such facilities which in the past have not delivered in full. Mum wanted to stay another week and if work hadn't been a factor I'd have happily extended our stay - the place was spacious and homely and four people would have more than enough space. Some of the feedback for this property left me a little apprehensive but I'm glad that it didn't dissuade me from booking. The owner can only be honest with the advert and if they tell you there is no wi-fi or it's adjacent to (at times) a busy road then don't complain when you arrive to find just that. Phone signal was excellent though, and so it should be at 1250ft above sea level, so internet access on my smartphone was not an issue. I'd love to return to this gem in the Peak District

Outstanding retreat for a quiet get away from it all.

Superb location if you have a pet with the private field. Beautifully decorated with original character. Extremely Clean and well fitted out. If you have young ones there is no wi-fi as listed and 4G is patchy, but we saw this as a bonus. The road mentioned in other reviews was hardly noticeable. If you wish to use the Devonshire Arms pub the walk is along the busy road and the opening hours are not all day when we visited closed Monday to Thursday. The only slight downside was the chairs were rather uncomfortable and the shower ran excessively hot or cold with a low pressure. We would highly recommend staying here and would do again. The late check in of 1700 is in our opinion too late especially if you are travelling from afar and with a pet as we were.

The cottage was large and beautiful.

Set in a lovely garden and surroundings..perfect position to enjoy all the lovely villages and beautiful countryside that the peak district has to offer.on the down side.the central heating boiler was located outside the cottage and was preset by the owner...and because there was no fire we found it cold for many parts of the day...the settee was so uncomfortable that it left us with neck ache....and perhaps a small welcome pack would have been appreciated as most cottages we visit have one and it makes you feel most welcome....overall the cottage was great value for money .easy solution is to slightly raise the price of the cottage to cover the cost of these minor details.overall a great stay .many thanks.

An absolutely superb holiday cottage, it's honestly the best we have ever stayed in.

It's such a cosy cottage, equipped to a very high standard, super clean and it has everything+ you need. It's in a great location for exploring both the white & dark areas of the Peak District too, it's our 3rd stay here and we would highly recommend it. Brian the owner is so thoughtful & he genuinely wants you to have a good stay in his home, he's a great character too and we love seeing him around for some good banter & chats, but he's also got that good balance of leaving you to it too. Any critique he also takes on board too, so we are now loving the 4 slice toaster, thanks Brian!

    • Denis - Verified booking

Very happy with the location of Peacock Cottage, the owner Brian lives on the farm and was very helpful on our arrival.

The cottage is very well equipped and maintained and is a credit to the owner. We like walking and this is our first visit to the Peak District and there is a great selection of guide books in the cottage. Peaceful surroundings and an array of tits and robins on the feeder....great to watch. As mentioned in this cottage briefing there is some road noise from the road but it's a very minor noise which didn't bother us at all. Thank you so much Brian as your cottage couldn't have been better for our needs. Call us lucky or what...as we found this place by accident and we will return.
