"We were told we could not arrive before 4pm. We arrived at 4.15pm on the 9th December when it was dark and cold. In the time that it took me to park my car the owner, Mrs Morris, handed the keys to my wife and was leaving as I was about to enter the front door. The 2 advertised parking places do not exist. There is a disabled off street parking bay in front of the house and off street parking further up the road. This is a trade mis-description.The house has 6 rooms on 3 floors and is only heated by 2 storage heaters and a wood burner. Whilst the online photographs show the wood burner blazing away it was not lit or even laid when we arrived. In fact there were cold ashes in it!There is 1 storage heater on the ground floor and 1 on the first floor landing. The heat coming from them would have had trouble melting an ice cube placed on them such was the insufficiency of their output when we arrived. The house was very cold.I rang Mrs Morris about the lack of heat and asked for some additional electrical heating such as a fan heater. Mrs Morris would not do anything to rectify the situation. She just shrugged her shoulders, so to speak, and kept repeating that the house had a wood burner as though that were the answer to the problem of the cold.Storage heaters are a very inferior form of heating. You can not just turn them on as Mrs Morris appears to think you can. They only take on a charge during the night. They should have been on for at least a couple of night before we arrived. Mrs Morris had known we were coming several weeks before!A wood burner might produce a warm glow when lit and fully going but they need to be fed fresh fuel on a regular basis. If you are going out for the day or night, as you might on holiday, they are unsatisfactory as a primary source of heat. The temperature in the lounge when we arrived was 16C which is totally unacceptable and not what we had paid for.As the hearing had nor been on the bed was cold the first night. On the second day we lit the fire and kept it serviced all day. We could do this as we have family in the village and we were with them during the day. Even with the 2 storage heaters working on the second day and the wood burner fully serviced the lounge only reached 19C. The wood supplied ran out on the second day and we had to buy another sack from the local store.Satisfactory temperatures were achieved on day 3 but the new supply of wood also ran out!Mrs Morris has refused to compensate us for the totally inadequate heating or recompense us for the fuel we purchased.Welcome Cottages upon being advised of the problems agreed to pay us £100 compensation out of their own monies. Good for them! CONCLUSION, if you do rent this cottage;-1. Take your own electrical heating appliances and turn them on immediately on arrival.2. Wear your long johns at all times when in the house for the first 2 days.3. Take a hot water bottle to bed.4. Take additional fuel to burn on the wood burner, or buy some at the local shop on arrival.MY ADVICE;-Find another cottage where the owner has the sense to heat up the house before the tenant's arrival and where they sort a problem out when politely advised."

"S94198 is great for a large group. We had nine people in our group and all had a lot of space. The rooms are clean and spacious, the beds are comfy, and the kitchen is huge and ideal for self-catering. It's also a fantastic location, with off-road parking space for several cars, we felt safe and enjoyed it being a short walk to the beach. On the downside, there's only one shower in the house, and if we'd known that it might have been a deal breaker. It took ages to get everyone ready each day. There are two baths with a shower hose over them, but no shower curtains, so it's impossible to use them for anything other than hair washing over the bath. The owner-manual even asks that people don't get the room wet when using these bath-showers, it wouldn't be hard to have curtains put up around them. They also need a bit more maintenance, there were carpet tacks sticking up in one place that two people drod on. We were told in advance that a gardener would be coming round one afternoon to do some planting. I didn't think this was ideal but I assumed it would take an hour or less, I should have asked for this to not happen. He was lovely, but there for a whole afternoon for five hours. The gardner said he'd need to come back the next day but when he realised we were waiting for him to finish so we could use the garden on a lovely hot day he said he'd come back when we were gone. The owners should only arrange for gardeners and cleaners etc to come round on the swapover day when one group are leaving and new people are arriving. It's not fair to schedule lengthy maintenance when people have paid to hire the house. The bathroom that faces the main road needs a curtain on the window and it just met curtains. At night people can see right in to this. The only other thing was that whilst the lovely big fridge was empty for our use, the freezer was rammed with food for the owners. Shame as we would have liked some ice-cubes and ice-lollies everyday. These things aside, it's a nice big house, and really comfortable. The back garden isn't safe for small children so we stayed in the front garden which is big. The owner was helpful with answering questions and giving directions on the phone before we arrived."

"Well, where do I start? Were thrilled with this cottage!! Kay and Paul were incredible hosts. Nothing was too much effort (they live on site so very easy to have anything sorted if necessary and ask questions about the Island) This cottage is great for children as the garden is on the same level as the day living areas. But if your children are light sleepers, be aware sound does echo around the wonderful open plan kitchen, stairs and hallway. Also, the flooring above the bedrooms are slightly noisy. This wouldnt affect everyone but for light sleepers it could cause a bit of an issue. Everything is thought of! We had a great welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, bread, butter and milk. We took lots of things from home but we didnt need to. There were bin bags, cleaning cloths, bleach, dishwasher tablets, iron, washing up liquid, bbq WITH coal and cooking utensils, clingfilm, foil, even a cake tin!The Bin store is great. My mum instantly said "Im not going in there. I hate spiders." When we used it, expecting the usual, we found a clean, white plastic walled, tidy bun store. Not a web, spider, nothing. Everywhere was clean and tidy. The TVs were both smartTVs so great if you have a Netflix or Now tv account. Its beautiful and quiet there. Slightly out of the way of the hustle and bustle of Ventnor but so easy to travel to wherever. There is a local shop within 3 minutes and a Tesco Express and Co-op in Ventnor itself. The chip shop, Ocean View, is also 5 minutes away and is fantastic! My only niggle is, the family bathroom door opens infront of the front door and big glass window. I felt a little bit exposed walking in my towel from there to the bedroom and using the toilet at night. Only simply because of Kay and Paul living immediately opposite and having a beautifully built home similar to this, so very open, undressed windows. Im sure they dont think anything of it and must not look, but I personally felt a large curtain over the door at night or frosted glass in the pane next to door would give you some privacy at these moments. Saying that, it didnt put us off as we bookes to go back in 2019 whilst still there! Loved it, no where would be able to compete now we've had this luxury."

"A beautiful house. Stunning to look at but not comfortable to live in. The sofa has an incredibly low back which you just can't get comfortable on despite the generous helping of additional cushions. Everything was lovely, fresh and spotlessly clean. Our grumble was that there was no heating and when the weather turned we were all in jumpers and had to go out to eat to get warm. When we finally got through to the right person to talk to it was suggested we turn on the kitchen underfloor heating in the hope it rises through the house(it also didn't come on!) or light a fire in the open fireplace. With no kindling, no matches, no tools and no fire guard this was never going to be a valid option. For what we paid for the weekend I did expect more."

"S14376 was in a lovely part of the IOW and reasonably close to Ventnor - a short drive or 30 minute walk along the coastal path. We didn't have any internet access, but this was rectified after a couple of days. The owner acted quickly when advised. Downsides... the toilet in the main bathroom needs attention as it continues to run after being flushed and needed the button 'wiggling' until it stopped. Not really any local amenities, but we regarded that as a plus, but some might not.On the plus - well equipped kitchen, TVs and Sky TV with a lot of CD and DVD players and plenty of films to watch, games and toys for a wide age range. Pretty garden and table and chairs. It is a great place for a large group of guests."
