"This is a beautiful house set over 4 floors with LOTS of stairs and a very steep walk down to the town. In its previous life it was obviously a boarding house and the bedrooms and shower rooms, despite the nice furnishings, still have this feel. The showers are all electric with not much flow.If we had stayed here in a warm July or August we would probably have been delighted - but we stayed here on a particularly cold week in March. (See below)The house is equipped pretty well, especially with lots of toys, games and jigsaws. It would benefit from a few more mugs - sleeps 11 but only 9 mugs. We were also short of towels. Would have expected a bath and hand towel per bed, but we discovered after 6 of our family had left that 3 of them had quietly shared a bath towel as there was insufficient left. Only 2 bath mats too despite there being 5 bath/shower rooms. What it really needs is a much better heating system. There are 4 storage heaters in this huge house (1of which in the kitchen did not work)! Most of the bedrooms have convector heaters that you can turn on to take off the chill. There are 2 oil filled radiators in the dining room, 1 in the huge sitting room and 1 small one in the bunk bedroom. There is a long low heater in the sun room. We took this into the sitting room to try and get the chill out of the air - we did not succeed! There is an open fire in the sitting room and fuel is supplied for 1 fire. Unfortunately the fire draws very well and most of the heat seemed to disappear up the chimney. Certain areas of the house have no heating at all - shower and bathrooms, loos, utility, playroom. The loo in the basement is unbelievably cold!We managed to get the kitchen and dining room just about warm with the heaters and leaving the oven door open! The sitting room never lost its chill. Bedrooms were ok for adults if you left the convector heaters running. We had 2 babies with us and their monitors on the first evening showed the temperature in their rooms to be 14C and 16C, which is far too cold. By running the heaters all day in these rooms we managed to get this up to 19C by the second night, but this is not really warm enough for little ones.Other issues we encountered were:A previous renter had listed all the light bulbs that needed replacing - these had not been done. We found some spares and replaced some and then raided table lamps so at least there was overhead lights in the rooms and on the stairs.A car was parked right in the middle of the parking forecourt. By moving the bins we managed to get 2 of our cars in (very very tight) but our 3rd car had to be parked right down the road. Not at all convenient when attempting to unload, especially with the very steep steps at the front of the house. On the Monday a neighbour turned up and apologised saying he'd been in hospital and then moved his car.The double doors to the garden from the dining room were not locked when we arrived. I was opening the key safe when my husband waltzed down the steps and just let himself in!There was a dead mouse outside these doors! As I said at the beginning, this is a beautiful grade 2 listed house, but it needs a much more efficient heating system and generally more care. If, because of its listing, the heating cannot be amended then perhaps it should not be rented out in the cooler months of the year! At least many more heaters should be supplied. We were due to stay until Friday, but as the last of our family left on Wednesday morning we decided to go too. We could not face another couple of evenings, just the two of us sitting in the cold! Shame as we had looked forward to a couple of days by ourselves enjoying a relaxing time."

"We had issues while staying at S14390 cottage and did not receive assistance while we were there, even after making contact with the caretakers and them agreeing to visit the next day, they never tuned up or called us back. We did receive compensation after various emails with the owner, however the compensation was equal to 14% of the holiday price which was far less than we had expected as we lost 1 out of 3 nights stay due to having to clean the cottage ourselves on arrival, so we would have expected any compensation to reflect the time lost. The issues we had while staying at S14390 cottage: • Overwhelming smell of wet dog downstairs, especially in the lounge.• Both lounge sofas were covered in dog hair - we had to hoover and disinfect these before they could be sat on. We also had to wash the cushion covers. • The wooden floors throughout downstairs had not been hoovered or mopped, and were very much showing signs of the previous occupants and pet hairs. Again we had to hoover and mop these (twice) ourselves before starting our holiday.• The rug in the lounge was filthy and strongly smelt of dog. After trying to hoover and clean this ourselves, we had to roll it up and leave it by the back door for the duration of our stay.• Bin bags had not been placed in the bins downstairs.• Overflowing rubbish by outside bin.• Stained bed sheets in the twin room as well as grit on top of the duvets, which included a piece of toenail. We had to strip the beds and wash/tumble dry the sheets. The cottage itself was nicely decorated and in a good location, we were unable to park outside the property on several occasions, so we parked down a side street further down the road. We would not recommend this property or stay again."

"We spent a wonderful week at S83946 whilst walking the Isle of Wight coastal path. Our hosts Anne and Mike were very helpful providing useful information on places to eat and drink and attractions to see. They went above and beyond by providing us with lifts to start and finish of our walks when required, an unexpected and very helpful and kind thing to do.The cottage itself was everything you could wish for and perfect for the five of us. The bedrooms were spacious with amazingly comfortable beds. The bathrooms were well equipped and pristinely clean. There was an excellent supply of towels for bathroom and separate for hot tub. The kitchen was well equipped and the dining area and lounge were very comfortable. There were information leaflets and booklets and a supply of books and games. I'm sure the log burner would be a welcome addition during the winter but we were fortunate to be blessed with excellent weather. The hot tub was an added bonus after a long days walking and was enjoyed by everyone. The red squirrel even put in an appearance on several occasions. The barbecue was easy to use and a great addition during our fortunate spell of warm weather. The local pub served excellent food and drink and was a short walk away from the house. There were other excellent venues only a short drive away with some outstanding food being sampled. We would all highly recommend S83946 and thank Anne and Mike for making our stay so enjoyable."

"we stayed in may 2016. This is a lovely house very well equiped. The house was impecable clean and it had all we needed. Location is perfect it is 10/ 20 min drive to main areas for eating and supermarket.the only comment i would make and this is for the benefit of the owner to follow up with the house keeping. We found one towell was left from prior hosts hanging behind the bathroom door it was not a problem but i think they forgot to check and put it in the washing. Also no complimentary coffee was left a bit disappointing when reading other reviews treats were left for dogs. I would ask the keepers to empty the hoover each time they use it and to wash the filter because the house was very clean but when i hoovered the living room it started to smell of dog hair ( coming from the hoover). Apart form these petty comments we loved the place we would stay again and recommend it anyone to stay it is a lovely place, where like at home everything works perfectly, providing wifi is nice a touch considering there is no mobile reception in the area and also no phone line to do outcomming calls. the instructions on how everything works were excellent.thanks"

"The beds were incredibly uncomfortable we did not sleep well at all. The BBQ had been left filthy so we bought temporary light yourself BBQs from the supermarket because we were not about to clean it all up felt it should be left ready to use. The back garden was very, very small (as you can only use part of it due to health and safety) and if I had known it was so small I would not have booked. Not big enough outdoor space for our dog. The oven in the kitchen was dirty and had definitely not been cleaned before our arrival. The welcome pack was very poor, probably the worse one I had ever had (and we had lots over the years). It had tea bags but no milk so you could not make a cup of tea without going out shopping. On a positive note the location was good, the cottage was sweet but would definitely not book it again."
