"We are a party of six walkers who stayed in the cottage between 11 and 18 March, 2016, at which time a new contractor-caretaker had taken over responsibility for the property. Consequently many of the criticisms made in previous reviews concerning cleanliness had been resolved. The property itself is charming, well furnished and ideally located for accessing Exmoor and the surrounding coastline. However, we did encounter a variety of problems, some of which were easily resolved but others not.Matters such as the absence of spare refuse bags, no waste bins in rooms, a lack of bathmats, and a bare minimum supply of towels and tea towels were irritants. More seriously, there was a mouse infestation throughout the house – clearly a recurrent problem which requires a permanent solution provided by a reputable pest control company.Regarding domestic appliances, the washing machine would not spin or drain, the dishwasher tilted when fully stacked and the electric oven was slow and inefficient. Considering the potential number of occupants, the kitchen inventory is also inadequate, and the following items need to be provided: more mugs, weighing scales, a measuring jug, serving dishes, mixing bowls and eggcups. Furthermore, although the property description mentions that the water supply is fed from a spring, it does not refer to the resulting poor pressure in some of the bathrooms, nor the fact that this affects the hot water supply, some of which is heated by an oil-fired Aga and some from the heating system boiler. One bathroom in particular – in an endeavour to retain an antique sink fitment – delivers little more than a trickle from the tap. We found that six of us could cope by working around which bathroom delivered the best option at a given time but larger parties would struggle to do so. A serious upgrade of the water supply and plumbing is therefore required. At the very least, a backup electric shower should be installed.Overall, though, the general ambience and comfort level of the cottage is commendable and most of the issues referred to above could be resolved by a small investment from the proprietors."

"We had a lovely holiday at S20229 and will definitely return. The house is a brilliant size for our families, and we love the variety of different living areas. The views from the windows and gardens are fabulous. The Aga takes some getting used to but made the kitchen an wonderfully warm and happy place to be in. Beautiful location, lovely house, a pleasure to be in. We hope to make our visits an annual event! On the negative side - the hot water supply for the showers is not good - we kept ending up with cold or lukewarm showers. Can this be fixed? It was very annoying. The dishwasher basket doesn't fit the dishwasher and so you can't fit in a full load of crockery, which is frustrating. Also, there's something wrong with the bottom tray, so it tips over and falls onto the floor, which is worrying for the crockery! We found mouse droppings in various places, which was disappointing. It would help to have an instruction manual for the electric cooker; and some attempt at marking the temperatures on the oven dial that have rubbed off. The back of a chair in the middle bedroom fell off, and one of the bannisters seems wonky. The key safe is almost impossible to shut. Also - instead of an instruction to ring the caretakers to arrange pick up a few days before the visit (which is very unusual!), can we just be contacted with the key safe number, as this is all that's needed? If these details can be fixed, it will be be perfect."

"This cottage is lovely, it is in a beautiful location. It is quite and in the middle of no where but that is what we wanted. Even though it is in the middle of no where, it is very ideally located to Yeovil and Crewkerne. These places are easy to find your way around to the amenities that we required. The location for a family was brilliant, Longleat 1hour away, coast less than an 1 hour away and Chedder Gorge and Wooky hole only an 1 hour away too. The cottage is wonderful for a family, our children our 7 and 3. It has plenty of space and is VERY well equipped in the kitchen. It really was like home from home. The owners were very helpful, and provided a lot of stuff to help for children to like cot, high chair and stairgate. We didn't use them but they were prepared to get it all ready for us. They also have been very kind in leaving books, a few games and a lovely welcome package. Everything was easy to use and well explained, the key safe made it easy to arrive and the owners very kindly turned the heating on for our arrival. So overall we had an awesome holiday and this was partly due to having a lovely, cosy and comfortable cottage to stay in. Highly recommend. Thank you"

"S20229 Cottage is far larger than it appears from the outside, and is a truly charming house, with a lot of space for large groups to use. The large private garden across the road is magnificent and would be perfect for a barbecue or picnic in warmer and drier weather than prevailed during our visit. The location is absolutely spectacular with views across to Porlock and beyond to Countisbury Head. Our children enjoyed the walk to Bossington to play in the ford, and the walk to the beach which is unspoilt and very quiet, with clear views across the Bristol Channel to Wales and some stunning rock pools at Hurlstone Point revealed at low tide. If you are used to having the central heating on a lot, beware, the oil fired heating will put a dent in your pocket. Our tip would be to congregate around the Aga in the kitchen instead. Bring a torch and, if you have small children, some night lights - finding the toilet in the pitch black Exmoor night can be a challenge otherwise! Oct 2011. "

"Booked the cottage late, but what a gem. Great location on the border of Somerset and Dorset, and not too far from Devon. Cottage was clean, had lots of equipment and was spacious bearing in mind it was for four people (2 adults and 2 children, 17 & 11). The owner was very nice, and gave us some good tips for touring the countryside, which we did, visiting Bath, Weymouth, Sidmouth, Sherborne, Glastonbury and other towns. There is only a small courtyard (all paved) but that was not an issue for us - was a good sun trap morning and evening. The weather was fab for the two weeks, which made the holiday great. Local Farmshop just down the lane to get any urgent supplies but plenty of supermarkets close by - Waitrose and Lidl in Crewkerne (4 miles) with Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrison’s in Yeovil (7 miles). Would stay again, as the cottage was very comfortable, with all the amenities (and more) you would need."
